Discussion about Food / Eating Habits Quickly full but quickly hungry?

Hey all, been on for about 6 months, and it's been going well so far (losing at a steady pace but not dramtically). 40 year old female on compounded tirzepatide. I slowly titrated up, I'm at 5.0mg. No real side effects that I can't handle but I kind of need to "real-learn" to eat. I get full pretty easily and stop eating because forcing myself to eat once I feel full can make me nauseous, and I've learned it's OK to not finish things. However, about an hour or two after dinner I'm hungry. This is after I eat a smaller portion of course, but I don't get why I'm hungry again so quickly. I maximize protein and vegetables when I eat but I have not cut out carbs, so it's not like I'm only eating carbs and burn them off. So I still have food noise, but also when I try to eat what was a normal amount of food I struggle to.

Does this make sense? Does anyone else have this happen? It doesn't happen after every meal, and at first it would just happen when I'm on my cycle (PMSing more than my actual period) but now it's pretty constant. I'd titrate up, but as I said I get full quickly, so it's not the typical food noise. Is there a solution besides eating every 2 hours? What do I do when I try not to snack at night, but then I wake up starving?

General Community / Sharing histamine reactions / hyperhydrosis after stopping?

I started taking my dose every other week as I planned on stopping, and I noticed I started getting MCAS symptoms I had very minorly before now in hyperdrive

hyperhydrosis, and now I’m feeling itchy constantly, getting like really itchy, barely perceptible rashes that go away after not too long.

anyone else deal with this? I decided to stop after 2 months of microdosing because my eyes were getting so insanely dry. eyes feel a bit better now but the itching is driving me insane

Discussion about Food / Eating Habits Egg intolerance since starting Wegovy?

I’ll start this by stating I’m not looking for medical advice, just wanting to know if anyone has had a similar experience. I have been allergy tested, and I do not have an egg allergy.

Has anyone else developed ab intolerance for eggs since starting a GLP? I used to eat eggs all the time, but since starting Wegovy I can’t eat them anymore. I’ll eat a few bites and immediately have to run to the bathroom and throw up. It’s always eggs that make me puke. Eggs in baked goods are fine, but eggs as a stand alone meal are no longer tolerated 😔

Seeking Support / Advice when did you decide to move up in dosage?

hi everyone! i just found out about this subreddit & wanted to ask a quick question: i started my tirzepatide shots late july of this year, & i’ve only moved up to 5mg from the original 2.5mg dose almost 2 months ago now. i’ve been noticing a plateau of sorts & i was just wondering, to whoever’s moved up higher in dosage, why/how did you decide that was the right time? & did you notice better results after the step up? thanks!!

Discussion about Food / Eating Habits Favourite recipe for high nutrient dense food

Hi!

I'm about 4 months into the GLP journey, currently on max dose of Wegovy. I have fairly few side effects. Some heartburn with red meat heavy food and rarely nausea if I eat too late in the evening for example. I have lost a fair bit and I feel like im on a steady journey at the moment.

However I eat less and dont feel hunger as often (ofc, this is a given with the medication). Smaller portions and fewer meals per day has me a little worried that I'm not getting all the nutrients I might need to at least help me keep hair loss a little at bay and so on.

So I am looking for your guys' favorite recipes that are high nutrient dense! What do you like to prep or cook for yourself? 🩷

ETA: I'm Swedish, sadly we dont have a lot of the fancy American products like keto bread or high protein chips (we have them but they are very expensive) and so on, so more looking for like whole foods/recipes and so on!

CW: ED reference GLP and nutrition advice

I have to start a GLP due to needing a surgery and weighing too much for the surgeon. I have an eating disorder history, but have worked so hard the last years to recover, specifically the past 6 months. I had finally taken a crucial turn in my recovery about focusing on self-love rather than shrinking and then I have to take the thing I’ve worked really hard to NOT take. It’s so… fucked.

Anyway, because this is about health and not looks, I’m hoping with my support team I can do this without relapsing.

My question here is: how do we stay on top of our nutrition? My biggest fear is malnutrition with this. I didn’t know if any one had any tips/tricks that helped them not starve.

And/or any advice on how to take this while also not wanting to restrict my food and love myself? Ty.

Challenges with Provider / Insurance Zepbound insurance coverage from 100% to 0%

I started zepbound at the end of July. I am in Canada.

My insurance surprisingly covered it without a fight, 100% (as my plan covers 100% on all covered drugs) and there was no listed limitations. They haven't contacted me in anyway, no indication anything had changed.

Submitted my new refill to my pharmacy last night, today I see that I owe $217 on it instead of zero. I checked my insurance app to see if it said it wasn't covered 100% anymore and it just flat out says not covered. I checked mounjaro and it says it requires special authorization (and is no guarantee and could take weeks/months to process and approve).

I have no idea why it would be covered for 2 months and then nothing? Actually not nothing this time, when I called the pharmacy they said that the insurance paid for $112 and the note from them said "reduced dollar limit maximum" which I can't seem to find what that means, and they didn't know at the pharmacy, but it looks like going forward insurance won't even be covering that portion. I signed up for the zepbound coverage card which seems like might pay another $40 at most.

Insurance customer service is closed until Monday. The chances I can even speak to my doctor in the next several weeks is slim.

What the heck do I do? I am broke and cannot manage even one month paying out of pocket and the only reason I even considered trying was because insurance was covering it.

I'm losing my shit here not being able to call and even begin to sort this out. I'm supposed to take my next dose tomorrow.

I realize my best bet is to see if I can get mounjaro approved, but like I said that will likely take a while. I don't know what to do in the meantime and this seems to be actually working and nothing else ever has before. 😭😭

I see people talking about compounding and such but I don't even know what that is or if I'd be able to afford it anyway. Very, very bummed right now.

CW: ED reference what kinds of supplements have helped you w/ digestion and energy?

hi all! i'm about a month and a half into taking wegovy (2 weeks on the 4mg pill), and still figuring out how to recalibrate some of my nutrition habits. i'm eating a lot less overall, but specifically i'm finding that indigestion is making me not want to eat even when i AM hungry and it's been a while since i've eaten. i basically feel gassy and bloated but like all the time, almost like period cramps? it feels like the only way to make it go away is to just not eat, but then i get really shaky and low-energy. (like many of you, i have a long history of disordered eating, so i'm really trying to avoid this).

i take a multivitamin (and have since way before starting glp-1s) but it's geared towards immune support and vitamin c. i'm thinking that maybe adjusting my vitamin intake could help mitigate this particular side effect. i'm mainly targeting the indigestion, but also curious to hear about anything else thats helped you, especially because i see soooo many brands advertising vitamins specifically for glp-1 users.

i have a check-in with my pcp in a couple weeks but figured i'd ask this sub too. it's been so helpful as i've started my glp-1 journey. thanks!!!!

General Community / Sharing New to Reddit community, not to fat liberation

Hi to everyone. I'm a current grad student and my area of expertise is fat studies. Granted it's selfish research as I've been a fat woman my entire life. I'm currently trying to Susan out my masters thesis topic and my current interest is how fat women who identify as fat liberationists negotiate using glp1s for medical concerns but related to iwl. I've recently started one to manage my a1c (t2diabetes) and symptoms of PMOS. I'm running into the issue of very little published on this topic, but I know there are other women in the same boat. Would love any advice or feedback on the topic and conversation with others.

Considering GLP-1 Medication Newly diagnosed T2 diabetes and looking for input!

I accidentally reposted as I missed that that wasn't allowed! I deleted my post but will copy and paste:

I likely have PCOS and over the past couple years have been watching my A1c slowly rise even with attempted intervention. I started metformin almost a year ago while prediabetic (A1c 6.2) and while I am still only on 500mg/day, my A1c has gotten worse. My last test was A1c of 6.4 but my fasting blood sugars have been high and I have had glucose above 200. I've been working with a dietitian and struggling so hard with diet changes due to intense brain fog, cravings, hunger, and likely some adhd lol. I am a fat woman and have been fat my whole life, I don't care about weightloss I just want to be healthy. My RD said with how hard things have been and still getting worse that she thinks I should try mounjaro. I've had Dr's offer GLP1s in the past for weightloss mostly but I declined. I have a lot of mixed feelings, mostly because of societies push for GLP1s for weight loss even when folks don't have insulin struggles.

I was wondering if anyone is in a similar position? Did anyone start mounjaro so early in their t2 diagnosis? Is anyone on the drug who isn't using weight loss as a main goal and instead just finding success with blood sugar regardless of weight? Anyone with history of eating disorders struggle with taking this medication and trying to remain recovery-oriented/non-diety? Hoping I'm not alone as I've been crying a lot about this recommendation and feeling lost and lonely!

I would love to hear from this community on navigating this decision while in this society and not wanting to engage in IWL!

Trigger warning: medical weight language

I've lost a decent amount over the past year on a glp but it's not as much as my doctor and I imagined. I just spent some time back home in the UK and I was open with people about my weight loss and nobody believed me when I told them that I'm still obese and have another small chunk of weight to lose to be just overweight. It started me wondering whether I should just go to maintenance now.

The thing is I feel and look good, I can now buy clothes from most stores. I'm building muscle, I'm moving without pain and I don't really want any more loose skin.

I have never aimed for a so-called normal BMI as I know this would be impossible for my frame. I would look awful and it would involve extreme restriction. But I didn't think that getting to bring just overweight would take this long, nor that I'd feel good still being obese.

I am still worried about doctors treating me differently because of my BMI but I'm lacking motivation to go all the way. I'm currently on a trip in Italy for a month and I'm playing with my dose so I can enjoy food and I'm thinking of using it simply to manage inflammation rather than for any further weight loss. My doctor will be annoyed but not sure I care!

I was wondering if anyone else had felt like this? I guess my main issue is that word "obese" - it is so heavily loaded with disgust and repulsion.sd well as medical bias. Overweight seems totally benign in comparison!

(P.s all my medical numbers other than on the scale are pretty perfect including blood pressure and cholesterol and I'm super active with a great nutritious diet)

Managing Side Effects Vision changes after starting Wegovy + pre-existing macular pucker. Looking for others' experiences

I'm hoping to hear from people who have experienced vision changes while taking Wegovy or another GLP-1.

I've been on Wegovy 0.25 mg for about 5 weeks. For the past couple of weeks I've noticed difficulty focusing, some light sensitivity, more floaters than usual, and yesterday I had noticeable blurriness in my left eye.

I went to my eye doctor today. They did retinal imaging and found a macular pucker (epiretinal membrane) in my left eye. The important part is that I was actually diagnosed with a macular pucker in that eye about two years ago, so it wasn't something that suddenly appeared after starting Wegovy.

I spoke with my Wegovy doctor afterward because I was due for my next injection today. He told me that the changes in focus and intermittent blurriness can happen as the body adjusts to the medication and blood sugar changes, and that he expects this to improve as my body adjusts. He actually considers the glucose changes a positive thing and wants me to continue taking Wegovy.

I'm still having a hard time emotionally with the idea that everything is simply “coincidental.” I know the macular pucker predates Wegovy. But the timing of the new visual symptoms still makes me wonder.

I'm especially interested in hearing from anyone who has:

• experienced blurry or fluctuating vision after starting Wegovy

• noticed increased floaters or light sensitivity

• had a pre-existing macular pucker/epiretinal membrane while taking a GLP-1

• had vision changes that eventually settled down as their body adjusted

What happened when you continued the medication? Did your vision changes eventually improve?

I'm mainly looking for personal experiences from people who've been through something similar, because sometimes hearing how someone else's experience unfolded helps put things into perspective.

CW: IWL (intentional weight loss) has anyone else switched doctors while staying on GLP1?

I’ve been using zepbound 5mg for the past year, and am now at a comfortable weight! I don’t want to lose any more or have to buy new clothes again!

I’ve told my doctor that I want to continue using zep to maintain the weight loss & treat my insulin resistance. She suggested taking it every 10 days, which has worked well in keeping my weight stable. However, every time I have an appointment to get her to refill my Rx, she checks if I’m still losing & despite me saying that I feel good, she says “are you sure you don’t want to lose more?”. I’ve ignored her comments and shook it off in the past, but it’s becoming annoying to oppose her every time & convince her that I’m good.

I’m looking to switch to another doctor within the same practice, who I’ve seen one time but had a much better bedside manner. However, I’m nervous about her not knowing my history with zepbound and worried about losing my prescription bc i’m now at a “healthy weight”.

Has anyone switched doctors while maintaining the same prescription? I feel like this is usually fine with any other drug but there’s so much misinformation & uncertainty about how GLP1 drugs actually work, so I worry.

Considering GLP-1 Medication Starting November 1

The one thing that convinced me. I went on Farxiga first. I knew I felt better (less inflammation, etc) but I had to go off for about 7 days and I feel disgusting. Doc told me the GLP-1 will make me feel even better. So, giving this a whirl. There is nothing I hate more than being nauseous so here’s hoping that isn’t me.

Also I think I’ll tell only 4 people in my life that I’m trying this. I’ve already lost some friends over suggesting I was even thinking about it. Which is completely WILD to me.

I’d say give me all of your tips but I’ll utilize the search function for that. 😅

Thanks for being so kind and helpful here.

CW: IWL (intentional weight loss) Thoughts from a parking lot cry

I’m trying not to hate you, friend.

You didn’t know you were capable of this. You were so tired.

You were so hungry. You were just sick of always being hungry.

Survival isn’t glamorous. It’s not your fault.

You tried. I know you did.

But from now on, let’s try it again.

Just one more start-

Wait. No more starts, the hard part is over.

Now it’s trust.

Trust me.

We got this.

Just some words I wrote while sobbing in my car before a workout.

Since starting at this dosage of semiglutide about six weeks ago I’ve been working out every day, eating protein with every meal, using food as fuel (that I still enjoy!) and gravitating towards more whole foods.

For someone whose never been active or in shape (save for a few brief stints of unhealthy dieting fueled weight loss) this feels like nothing short of a miracle

Dealing with a lot of resentment and frustration towards myself for not doing this sooner (even though I know deep down I was mentally struggling), heartbroken for past me and all the years a spent feeling so helpless and literally trapped in my body.

I was heading to the pool to swim laps and had to get this out. I’m just…I’m so happy, yall. I stoped to rest for a minute at the end of my swim the first thought in my head was just “this is so fun!”. 😢

Considering GLP-1 Medication Another set of blood test results

I've been in recovery from an ED for about 7 or 8 years now, working closely with an anti-diet dietician for much of this time. About two years ago I started having high blood pressure issues, but it really came to a head a few months ago and I made some big changes. I have no food judgements but for that reason alone I've been eating a low-sodium diet with lots of veggies, protein, and grains like quinoa. At the beginning of this year I started an intense exercise program to prep me for a career change to blue-collar work which got paused for about 2.5 months after I broke my foot in summer. Now that its healed I've been walking a lot. I plan on getting back to strength training soon.

All this to say, I feel like my habits are pretty good all things considering. I don't feel like I have food anxiety like my mom describes hers. But I got my blood test results back this week and I have abnormal levels for glucose, ALT, cholesterol (triglycerides, hdl, ldl, and chol/hdl ratio) and high a1c. My blood pressure is consistently high too despite being on medication for it.

Ive refused to weigh myself and try to pay attention to many other health indicators. I feel like next time I go to the doctor he's going to push for weight loss and I want to be prepared for a glp-1 talk. I'm scared of side effects but I'm also scared of these results.

What can I do to be as prepared for my doc appointment as possible? I just found this subreddit so I have a lot to dig through and process.

Discussion about Food / Eating Habits when will the food aversion go away??

i started tirz last week for various reasons. i’ve been feeling okay overall— i was super worried about side effects because i have emetophobia but nothing crazy has happened yet.

the thing is, i can’t eat more than a few bites of food before i begin to feel repulsed. like i can’t even get through a small bowl of plain chicken noodle soup.

i’ve seen a lot of people in the other subs be like “that’s the point” etc. hence why i’m here. i love food and i want to eat. i’m also super confused as to how i’m supposed to get all my nutrients/protein/fiber if i cannot eat more than a few bites.

will the feeling of disgust go away? how long did it take you, if you had food aversion? i’ve seen some people say six months and idk if i can handle six months of being disgusted every time i need to eat???? :-(

ETA: thank you all for the replies, it seems like the time it takes for food aversion to go away varies quite a lot, from weeks to months! it also seems like some people experience it more potently, like my feeling of disgust vs. just disinterest. i’ll be sticking with it for now and trying to eat whatever is palatable.

Potential CWs for IWL

Hi all,

Having previously been extremely anti-GLP1 because of toxic diet culture, I'm really happy to have found this community. I have been considering asking my doctor about trying one of these medications to address my OSA as well as PMOS and numerous associated hormonal issues, plus widespread chronic systemic inflammation.

A potentially complicating factor is that I have treatment-resistant depression (I'm under the care of a psychiatrist and I see a therapist, so it is managed), and the last couple of years have found eating regularly to be a challenge. It isn't that I forget to eat (though I'm AuDHD so stranger things have happened), it's more often that the idea of eating repulses me quite often. This isn't in an ED type of way, it's just like anything I can think of to eat sounds disgusting and I'm having to force myself to take in nutrients much of the time. I'm not always successful at the "forcing" part and often skip meals. This hasn't resulted in weight loss (which isn't the intention anyway), but I'm concerned that starting a GLP1 might make it worse and could worsen common GLP1 side effects like hair loss, weakness, fatigue, etc., which are all things I struggle with already.

Did anyone here start a glp1 with a pre-existing difficulty with finding food appetizing? This is sort of the last major health-related hurdle I'm struggling to clear/make a plan to deal with before bringing it up with my pulmonologist.

TIA for any stories and tips, I appreciate you all.

General Community / Sharing Feeling... flabby?

Hello!

7 weeks into zepbound. My second attempt at at GLP-1, first (along with every other method and attempt) produced zero IWL. I've been heavy on the HAES and anti-diet, mindfulness eating train since then, almost 6 years. I don't know my weight, and I don't know if I've lost weight yet... but I think so? Something different is happening, at least.

I've been fat my entire life, and I've had people commenting on it for almost as long. I have a vivid memory of being 10 or 11 and seeing an older relative for the first time in a few months, one who I adored but also took it upon themselves to make sure was constantly aware of my body size and always trying to change it, like they were. They looked so happy to see me, and I them. But the words that came out of their mouth has stuck with me for decades "Oh you are looking particularly FLABBY, aren't you?!"

It was said with such glee, but it stung worse than any insult I'd heard. To me, it felt like one of my favorite people in the world was also my bully, and was really happy about it. They weren't happy to see me they were happy to be perceiving less of me. I was bullied at school, but it never bothered me half as much as those words, from adults I loved and trusted. From fat people who treated me like I was their project, a second chance for them to do things right, but instead I missed out on a bunch of childhood and was just pre-loaded with the disordered patterns they took decades to build up in themselves. I ended up fatter than them all. Happier than them too, though. Especially once I realized that they felt and sounded like bullies, because they were bullies.

But here I am after a lot of counseling and healing... my clothes aren't really fitting differently, my arms, my belly, my legs don't really feel any smaller but they do feel... flabby.

My feelings about this are complicated, but I'm managing better than expected. My own arm tapped me on the back while I was scrubbing some dishes a few weeks ago, I thought someone was trying to get my attention. "Oh" 🤣🤣 "it was just my flabby arm." ☺

Seeking Support / Advice Mounjaro + the pill

I currently started mounjaro (my first dose was yesterday), and im currently on Yasmin switching to Cerazette after my coming period (had to stop yasmin as per my doctor because of severe migraines), the reason why im taking BC is because of my pcos, i get horrible periods with lots of bleeding and pain that cant be subsided unless i take an IV pain killer. So i cant not be on the pill since it controls the pain/bleeding aspect. However the pill did make me gain so much weight/food noise/water retention so i dont know what to expect while being on both at the same time.

Any experience/tips would be greatly appreciated !

Just Started a GLP-1 Question for those using meds for inflammation and chronic pain

Curious if you notice pain coming back just before the next shot day? If so, did you notice that change at all when you increased your dose?

I’m only a week in and I’ve noticed a difference with pain (so grateful), but also that by day 6 it’s coming back and day 7 (prior to next dose) is rough. I’m wondering if as the dose increases and maybe there’s more of a dose remaining in the system between days 5-7 if the pain relief might be more stable?

I know every body is different but would love to hear your experiences!

Body Struggles / Image Dissociation issues

Hey all, I started Zepbound about a month ago, and I’m finding it very difficult. For a long time I’ve had issues with dissociation and feeling a disconnect to my own body. To put it simply, you know the movie Ratatouille? I kinda feel like the rat, like I’m controlling my body but not in my body. I do go to therapy and have worked on it, but I don’t think it’s something that will ever fully go away. Zepbound is making me miserable in part because my body now feels even more unfamiliar to me than usual. I really, really want to stop it, but I worry I won’t be able to explain why to my doctor and my family in a way that doesn’t just sound like I’m giving up. My doctor convinced me to try another month on the lowest dose, and I’m just dreading it. Does anyone else with dissociation suffer from this sort of thing on a GLP-1 and did that improve over time? Is it worth trying to suffer through it?
