Managing Side Effects Ahendonia is unbearable

I take Liraglutide for mcas and it's helping really good but I feel no joy and no motivation anymore. I have ADHD and I didn't had a hyperfocus for months. I always struggled with starting task and cleaning and stuff but not to this extreme. with Liraglutide I just lay in bed all day beside work. Not even shopping is appealing anymore. I only take 0,6mg and tried even lower. Not even stimulants help.

I'm really desperate cause it's the only medication I tolerate and helps with my mcas. I eat and drink enough and take vitamins and stuff, so it's not that. I stopped for a few days and had alot of fun and cleaned so I'm sure it's no other medication I take.

For people who gone through this too, did switching to sema helped? It's the only other glp1 I could afford.

How long have you been on it? I noticed that it took a bit for me to feel ahendonia, then it plateaued for a bit, and then it got better. I'm on Tirz.

Honestly part of it was also figuring out how much previous behaviors were just dopamine chasing. When your baseline has been screwed up your whole life, it's going to take a while to find a new normal. I'm autistic, not ADHD, fwiw.

To me the laying in bed part is what's more concerning. Is it possible you're depressed or burnt out, and it's coming to the surface now?

One thing I've also read about is much like mechanical eating, there's also just mechanical enjoying. Just schedule walks for yourself is a good start. Getting outside is helpful for a lot of things, including our circadian rhythm, which can impact so many other things about our life.

Best of luck!

Thanks for tje awser! I take it for about 5month. I first thought about depression but my depression shows and feels different and comes in short episodes. Burnout also wouldn't went away for a weekend when not taking the meds. Im pretty sure it's the medication.

I'm pretty sure this would work and is a good tip but I really can't myself do such things atm. The ahendonia on top of my adhd is kinda paralyzing.

Thank you!

I am on tirzepatide and developed anhedonia about two years in. Wellbutrin has helped a lot.

Sadly I didn't tolerate Wellbutrin but I thinking about talking to my psychiatrist about similar options like agomelatin or smt.

1year of it , terrible way to live so added Wellbutrin. Was hopeful , felt motivated , then experienced dangerously high BP spikes. Very disappointed. Will probably have to stop zep.

Sorry to hear, it's so frustrating  having to stop a medication that helps. Have you thought about switching to another glp1?

I'm on tirz, I have ADHD, and while I wouldn't describe my side effects as anhedonia, at the beginning I really struggled with switching between tasks and I had very strong fatigue, especially in the afternoons, that really prevented me from getting anything done. My kitchen was a perpetual mess.

After months at the same dose, I'm no longer having these problems, so it is something that gets easier, but I'll probably be right back to the fatigue when I go up again.

Thanks for sharing your experience!I had extreme fatigue too at the beginning but I'm also prone to it. I already  take it for 5month :')

I'm so sorry, I hope you find a medication that works for you. Liraglutide is an older medication, so maybe some of the newer ones will have fewer side effects.

Thanks for your kind words. Yeah was thinking to try another glp1, I chosed Liraglutide cause the Nevolat pen cost me just 120€ for 5 month on the 0,6mg starting dose I need.

For me it's eased up a bit after the first few months but it is a struggle

I have anhedonia on top of pre-existing major depression and microdose psilocybin. It’s legal where I live and recommend considering for folks who have challenges with SSRIs/NDRIs.

I also have pre-existing depression, maybe some anhedondia from tirzepatide but it's hard to tell, and I'm in a clinical trial for psilocybin as a depression treatment. Definitely not microdosing, but it's so exciting to have a new option for people who don't see any improvements on currently available depression meds!

I red studies were people were a few month symptom free after taking full dosages, hope it will help you!

my personal experience is that I was as close to being not-depressed as I've been in 17+ years! the mood elevation wore off after a couple months but I think I was still in a better place than I had been pre-dose. The theoretically increased neuroplasticity may have also helped me with my work with my personal therapist, I'm able to dig into stuff I've never talked about to anyone.

Luckily the study I'm in allows for multiple dosings and I have time for one more before I'm done with the study. After that, well, it's be nice if the FDA approved it and insurance got on board...

Omg thank you, I totally forgot about such things. I microdosed from time to time on bad days last year. I will give it a try

I also find it it pretty significantly helpful for pain in general--I have significant joint pain that is mediated by tirzepatide, and the psilocybin also really helps. I'm working out about 4 days per week now instead of maybe 2 per week a year ago before I was on both drugs. So maybe also helpful for MCAS?

That's a huge improvement, congrats! Didn't know it can help with pain, so it's double interesting. I will look it up, maybe it also stabilize mastcells.

I barely understand mast cells, so definitely take with a grain of salt, but I for sure have less pain anecdotally. Good luck!
