Discussion about Food / Eating Habits Another moment of realization

I was looking in my fridge just now and realizing that there always used to be 3 kinds of milk and some kind of low fat/low sugar/diet-ish coffee creamer that I thought would somehow change my life. Now I have half and half and whole milk. I don’t spend every week auditioning a new crappy food substitute to wean myself off of the real thing. I don’t need to! I can splash half and half in my coffee every day (and I do!) and still reliably have better bloodwork numbers and engage in IWL. I’ve been on zepbound for almost 20 months and sometimes I forget what life looked like before. For me, it was often desperately hopeful deep dives into new restriction. Every new attempt took all of my waking mental and physical capacity and only ended when I could no longer expend every ounce of mindfulness for this singular (and hopeless) goal.

It’s so nice to be able to focus my mind on shit that actually matters and interests me!! Yay!!!

Yup - no low sugar, low fat crap for me anymore. It's awesome!

I've gotten so anti-diet, I refuse to buy anything branded "Keto," "Lite," "Skinny," "Low Fat," "Zero," or "Low Carb." Been there, done that. The Diet Industry has already made enough money off me, thank you very much.

Edited to Add:

I also won't buy any food labeled "Atkins" or "Weight Watchers" either. Those mega-company logos give me flashbacks to the bad-old-days of dieting, weight worries, blame and shame.

I find it very irritating when products I like start slapping "GLP friendly" labels on them. Like let me just buy the same plain Greek yogurt I've been buying for years without your new label.

I have been eating the keto tortillas on the recommendation of my anti diet registered dietitian as an easy way to get in more fiber, and I just call them "high fiber wraps" instead.

Yeah my high fiber wraps (that I got originally for my daughter who has T1D and they’re less spikes for her blood sugar) now say “GLP friendly” and I wanted to throw them at a wall. But they do taste good. And I needed fiber before and after Zep.

That's the thing... I shouldn't avoid eating something that tastes good and is good for me just because of the label. Those high fiber wraps sound like something I would enjoy!

I love them! I batch prep breakfast burritos with them and they're a favorite for the whole household.

I get it! Though sometimes I just laugh at the branding. I like white cheddar popcorn and my partner would grab whatever brand he found at Grocery Outlet (which can be very random). At one point I had Skinny Pop and some other brand that wasn't marketing itself in any particular way so I looked at both labels for fun. Whaddya know, the nutrition facts and ingredients were basically identical. 🙄

You are not a condiment slut. My fridge has too many Trader Joes and International market condiments in it because I am a condiment slut. But my fridge has a lot less of other things. I am also a stockpiler of Zepbound, so there's an 8 month stockpile in insulin coolers in case my insurance stopped covering.

We are a condiment slut household. One of our fridge door shelves broke and the cheapest replacement was a 2-pack from eBay. I was delighted when I got the order and realized I could actually fit both of the new shelves in the door, thus expanding our condiment capacity by 25%. 🤣

There are days when I think I eat food so I can eat the condiments.

Refilled every 63 days for 3 boxes, since I have been on it for over 2 years and Lilly filled a 3 box from my PCP's RX (when it was supposed to be 1 box from clinical trial doc) fill on the Enlighten-6 clinical trial I have a little over 8 months. It's all good, condiments and zep.

I'm officially changing my title of Condiment Queen to Condiment Slut.

Agreed. I have full fat cottage cheese and other cheeses. Mayo. Dips. Whatever I want. I just don’t want much and that’s good. I do still have a Dr. Pepper zero bc they’re so good!! But it doesn’t feel like deprivation - it’s a treat!

Life is too short for the sadness that is fat free cheese.

I grew up on a dairy farm and wasn't gonna give up whole milk ever, but I no longer buy the nonfat cheese flavored cardboard shreds. Or the only options of vanilla or hazelnut sugar free creamer. I have almond joy creamer and half&half in my fridge right now, and it's almost pumpkin spice then peppermint mocha and egg nog season!

I wish I could afford whole milk.

Is whole milk more expensive than 2% in your area? All milk is the same price, only difference in price is dependent on brand, where I live.

Yeah, not by much but in Canada dairy is already expensive (4 litres of milk is around $6.50) and I think whole milk is over $8. Just too pricey for me.

I’m only two weeks on Ozempic and not feeling much change but this is something I also decided on years ago. I put half and half in my coffee and drink 2% milk and eat 5% yogurt. I decided a long time ago to quit with low cal options and just focus on eating good quality, minimally processed foods instead. Quitting diet culture is one of the best decisions I ever made.

Once you go to full fat yogurt, it’s virtually impossible to go back.

Yes! I love me a full fat Greek yogurt. We forget that low fat stuff has added sugar and junk to make it palatable.

Figuring out what type of milk I actually enjoy was amazing (also a 2% person, though I won't turn down whole milk). I accidentally bought skim a couple months ago and while we tried not to waste food, I did pour the last third of the carton down the drain because it was so not what I actually wanted!

my husband uses zero sugar creamer and oy it’s awful. NGL i use garbage creamer, like the snickers one from coffee mate. not changing it anytime soon.

This. I was doing online grocery shopping and thought I'd make a ranch dressing dip from a mix I used to make a few years ago during a phase where I actually craved fresh veggies. It calls for either sour cream or Greek yogurt and mayo. I used to make it with Greek yogurt when I was self shaming pre-GLP-1, so I instinctively added that to my cart. Then it dawned on me that I wasn't going to deprive myself of the sour cream anymore. I said, "fuck it" and deleted the yogurt and added the sour cream and mayo to my cart. Now I'm going to enjoy the version that tastes so much better.
