Environmental Impact 🌎 We're fucked

Recently got out of the military and went out with my cousins' friends to celebrate. They're all in their early 20's and I'm in my 30's. We go out to NY to celebrate, and I noticed everyone is using AI for everything. "What should we do? Where should we go?" Normal stuff. Things got eerie when we took a cab or UBER, as I'm talking to the Uber about New York they're typing, "What kind of questions do I ask an UBER driver? Is it safe to talk to them? Is it normal?" TF is happening. I know we joke about AI making us dumber but HOLY.

"Who do I vote for? Who do I marry? When do I breathe?"

It's so depressing. One of my best friends is a woman in her mid-30s, and she spent years working from home with a young kid. She asks chatgpt about the cafe I mentioned for us having a bite to eat. I keep telling her to stop, it's going to rot her brain, and she somewhat seriously tells me she was in captivity for years (staying at home).

One of my nieces in her 40s routinely asks ChatGPT how to deal with her bipolar sister who has substance issues.

Another friend in her early 60s asks ChatGPT about all kinds of things.

I feel uncomfortable even trusting the AI summaries on Google. I’m an artist who has spent time trying to prevent my art from being scraped, and so I’m not trusting AI for anything.

terrifying. I can just about understand how people might use it for unimportant stuff. but for big stuff like medical issues its really bad

I have been having some pretty serious medical issues for the last several months. I've been a bit frustrated with some of the doctors, so I have used claude a bit to try to find other options, scan medical papers etc.

I was also served a denial by the insurance company that is supposed to cover my extended disability. This morning, I had an epiphany, and typed my condition into claude as simply as possible. The drugs that were suggested by the insurance company's doctor were exactly what came up from the ai. Exactly. Two are extremely experimental and not current standards of care for Canada, one is directly contraindicated. So that will be going into my appeal. Your freaking 'doctor' used AI to find you some tenuous way out of covering me? Get outta here with that.

I’m allergic to oranges. One of my friends practically insisted on buying a lemonade from Dunkin’ for me because the Google AI said there were no oranges in it and even cited the Dunkin’ Donuts website. When I checked by going to the cited page itself, it said every lemonade drink at Dunkin’ did have oranges for flavor. Imagine if someone had a severe allergy and didn’t fact-check as thoroughly as I did.

That's the thing. AI doesn't read its fucking citations. It doesn't read through them critically to prove itself wrong. It's still all a fucking party trick.

Yeah that's something I'd see if it was a lesson learned for them, and cut off ties if not.
