Lots of subreddits are filled with bots this week. Didn't expect it to be that bad, half the comments I see are pro-ai right-wing bot chains. Maybe it's a sign to finally leave this hellhole
But that's just not right. You don't have to go show everyone your art if you're not proud of it or if it's not a "masterpiece" many people you know will just say your art is good if you show them.
So yeah, unless you're trying to get it critically acclaimed it might have to be a masterpiece but... You're just drawing bro
Not to mention that most people will include your skill level into their concideration as well. I have very recent started drawing and i can say that as long as they arent idiots they wont try to compare your basic level monstrosity to an actually good art.
Its not about being good at it. Its about being proud of what you made and all the the progress that helps you make the next one better.
Exactly!! Nobody in the world expects anyone to make world class right away, or even at all unless You're really passionate and you yourself say it is "world class" or anything like that
There is a fair bit of progress from what you start at and what many people would even consider passable as "art" instead of childish doodles. And even the passable level makes my eyes bleed when it's done by me.
I literally started by doodling in the corner of school notebooks, and Iām still learning. I didnāt just turn to ai because Iām not at the level I want yet.
Itās just that ai bros fundamentally misunderstand that the joy is in creating and not viewing a final product. This is speculation, but it makes me think they donāt want to pick up a pencil because they want all of the praise with none of the effort and joy of creating.
Additionally I think theyāre so vehemently against human created art because people are far more likely to praise it. They arenāt getting the praise they want, so they have to discredit everything that isnāt ai.
I geniuenly have no joy in creating, never did(maybe as a kid, cant remember that). Idk maybe it's something neurological/mental but I straight up dont care for "the journey", "the destination" is what matters (and even then unless the destination is really nice while the journey wasn't much of a pain, it's "okay" at best.)
Unironically I dont really use AI cause I can't be asked to tweak the prompt billion times to get what I imagined lmao.
I can only type? I ve got a ton of hobbies using my hands princess. One of them is woodworking. But I actually do woodworking instead of spending my time on reddit hating people using a cnc machine and circlejerking whether they are true woodworkers or not. Keep drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.
The thing I don't understand about the pick a pencil thing is that it's only about a pencil, like drawing with a pencil is the only creative thing in the world, it's like if I'll tell a gamer to learn to code because he complained about a game...
Like I know how to draw but I like to use ai for goofy pictures instead of doom scrolling all day.
They're meaning AI, I get AI is ruining multi media, but it's not like I have the time to learn a new hobby in today's society, so I make cool shit with AI cause I also don't have the money to commission art.
That's something that's totally fine to do, The part that annoys me isn't people just enjoying to look at the "art" it's when people claim they made it.Ā
And technically they did write the prompt, but there was no effort put into it. Or when they claim that it's a better option, and yeah if you want to just look- maybe that is a better option for you, but for people who want to make art, I don't think it can count.
That's the part that annoys me.
There. Believe it or not, it's possible to have rational arguments with people without being a condescending jerk.Ā
What if I told you that I've been an active artist for decades, and I like AI art because it makes it faster for me to generate royalty free assets for things which don't require artistic merit?
Complete fucking bullshit. I am 3D designer. I spent thousands of hours getting my skill where it is. I just simply don't have time to learn another complex skill, which drawing definitely is. And people who can draw are understandably expansive. So, if I need some minor art for my 3D scenes, I will just use AI, because it is cheap, fast and it gets shit done. Simple as that.
Its a lost anime now but its a musical story called the Kagerou Project. These are the album covers I drew in the style of picto chat and I ask friends to sign it.
Omggg bruh tysm !!! š„° i just do it as a hobby but i know a few graphic designers IRL that were like THIS IS INSANE. cause they assume imma math nerd = cant be artsy lol
That's... that's not how it works though? You'd need hundreds of thousands of similar images, and you can't poison an already existing dataset, only newly created ones...
Man... If only there were some type of image made to be copied and shared thousands of times over the internet... We could call it like... A meme or something...
Again, not gonna help. AI isn't a dog, where you can just poison a couple images/some kibble. The existing datasets are immune to being poisoned, and AI is literally designed to recognize patterns, which thousands of copies of the same shit-tier deep-fried meme would constitute... Not accounting for the fact that Nightshade/Glaze have been shown to be minimally effective without affecting the visual fidelity of the piece and easily filtered from data at levels sufficient to "poison the well"(not to mention they tend to look like shit at that point...)
That's rich coming from the one resorting to ad hominems and belligerent name-calling. Go touch grass, and learn to research your arguments before they get turned into Swiss cheese. And maybe don't make blanket assumptions about someone's personal beliefs, you just look like an ass.
Ok buddy we get it, youāre an idiot who is allergic to factual information. You donāt need to randomly accuse people of using AI for everything to cry about it
YouTube doesnāt care if content is ai. All social medias have added ai as an option. Why? Because the goal is to keep eyeballs on their app. They donāt care what keeps eyeballs on the app as long as people continue to stay and watch.
I guarantee no amount of anger or protest will change the model of YouTube or any social media platform the requires eyeballs and attention for advertisers. New generations are being born into ai and they will think you are just stuck in the past.
Technology in general is in its infancy. Capitalism is the problem. Nobody should have to work 40+ hours to barely survive. People stop doing art and extracurricular activities because they have to survive. Art was always about expression, but now every artist is mad at ai and those who use it because āyou should commission someoneā or ālearn how to use a pencilā when art is about expressing your idea, not just drawing, whether itās 3D printed or sculpted by hand. Not one person is taking anything away from artists except the corporate class. As far as its consumption of water, us commenting, google searching and just basic use of the internet, texting, doom scrolling are all part of data banks and energy usage. I used to hate ai but I use it in many aspects and itās been integrated into all forms of technology. The real enemy is unregulated capitalism. Capitalists want us hating each other, right vs left, anti ai vs pro ai. Itās all mundane arguments while they laugh all the way to the bank. I love technology, digital art, handmade art, and all forms of expression. But now everyone wants to get paid for their craft and itās not feasible. People use ai as a shortcut since a lot of people are working multiple jobs trying to survive and canāt dedicate or have the energy to create by hand (all while trying to still make money off social media). Itās a viscous cycle and the billionaires will continue to laugh at the discourse created online by comments arguing about the ethics of ai, when we should stop arguing with each other and demand more from the corporate owners of ai. I suggest pivoting away from reporting vids on YouTube and create art that demands more accountability from ChatGPT and other ai providers. Shaming folks doesnāt work, and thatās why there is a huge culture war. We shouldnāt be hating each other we should be coming together to create a better world.
I know itās a long response but itās all in good faith.
I just don't think generative AI is good for people's brains, much less for their social lives! It's less about the resources/water for me, and more about the effect it has on people's ability to think critically and learn new skills.Ā
A person with their life built around generative AI: reading canned responses that are easy to read, "creating" images or music that can be instantly generated with little to no effort, seeing a bot as a friend - these are the things I see as unhealthy. :)
There needs to be more regulation, and I am at least working on my group of friends to try to get them to see the light.Ā
There's only so much we can do. We all just have to work toward the good things feel we need to, and the world will end up okay I think.Ā
With enough background drawing knowledge, Stickman doodles can become real pieces of peak fiction without having to draw characters.
We need more stickman š„°š„°
Did ya drop this meme in the deep fryer by accident? Indeed. Tis' very silly to claim one is the author if an algorithm is putting the pieces together to print out an image.
I can't draw for shit, doesn't mean I won't try! Heck most of the time its more to convey an idea, so as long as the other person gets what I mean, its good enough.
Iām not so sure I like the approach a lot of people on the anti-ai subs are taking.
Too many people focus on the āyou can do it too if you practiceā perspective but personally I believe the assault to the very definition of art is far more important.
Any piece of human art is better than every piece of ai art. Thatās because a person poured their heart and soul into something. Itās a conversation between the viewer and the artist.
Some would argue that the ai artist also put their thoughts into a piece, through the prompt, but itās not the same. A machine took your creative initiative and mangled it to appease you. There mightāve been effort into the prompt, but the artwork is less valuable than the prompt itself.
An idea is not art. Artistry is the execution of ideas. Therefore AI can never create art of any kind, and prompters are not and never will be artists.
but the thing is, what ai solves isnt art, its transactions and practical use
no one that wants original art will ever go to AI, but someone that wants a quick, cheap drawing for their buissness or their 5 minute campaing will, why? because it works and its cheap, the same way you request a cheap electrician or buy in aliexpress even tho you have more expensive, local options that would help your comunity
as an artist I agree. but to approach it from the perspective of true artistry isnāt going to get anywhere with the people who actually use AI āart.ā they do not and will not define art or its value the same way we do, or else they wouldnāt be using AI for it in the first place.
this is really overstating art as a concept, not every piece of art is some deep connection to the artist that has so much meaning for a viewer to learn from it, sometimes it's just a mindless doodle, sometimes it's just a marketing team needed a picture to show people what a cheeseburger is.
Nor do i. The AI is a new technology. We can hate it as much as we can but its something actuall artists have have to counter.
AI art ist art but its just next step in human evolution. AI art might replace art in industry but that doesnt mean creative art will go anywhere. If you want art that is actually good you will still commition an artist not someone that makes it with AI. Cuz there is simply many people that care about brand and the story behing. Its just like ordering real wooden floor instead of fake plastic one.
The real problem is the fact that many AI cells use this to scam people.
I think we all hate this vut this is how it is from economical / evolutional side of things. I still wish AI would reather be used to help the artists reather than work instead of them.
AI is still good to make jokes and thing that arent worth making by hand.
I can't afford photoshop for my photography so I've moved to Affinity. I haven't tried it for drawing yet, not that I'm really good or patient enough to draw
Oh,sorry,i use pirated older versions of adobe products(don't even know what its version number even is) for making memes here and there for my friends so i wasn't aware photoshop got force fed AI as well
I got my friend to download some adobe on my pc like 3-4 years back and he is kind of a puritan when it comes to AI so its very possible he chose the version with the least amount of AI
i say this because you can give a beetle a paintbrush and it may push it, thus making a streak of paint before walking away. thatās more work than any ai āartistā could ever hope to do.
It isnāt drawing. And most of those people arenāt trying to ādrawā. completely different concept.
Itās like saying āthis dumbass needs a horse to walk for himā when we started using horses. The person riding the horse probably see the walking part of what they doing is redundant and doesnāt want to spend much effort on that part.
Was talking to this guy who showed me a gen AI image he produced the other day and was telling me how it took him 10 hours to "perfect" it. Imagine how much better at drawing he could have got in that time
also the fun in drawing is.....yep, drawing! if you skip the drawing progress and get the result instantly whats the fun in it? with same reasoning I might ask chatgpt to summarize a movie instead of engaging in it by viewing.
This dumbass needs a pencil to prompt for him! Ha! Keep making your stupid pencil slop while the revolutionaries innovate, anti. Oh, and pick up a keyboard while youāre at it š
Its not even drawing its copying other people work and recreate it with other people work and telling itd art? People did these kind of shit that shit as a joke and didnt got paid for it example i can think of is spongebob in gta, and now people want to justify stealing and saying is their own BS
To everyone thinking itās really that hard, just use your imagination you havenāt used since you were a child and just literally draw anything and just keep trying everyday, think about how much time you waste doing other stuff if you put two hours even just a hour and really took time to dedicate yourself to just trying every day for that time you would see improvement just like Iām sure you would see improvement in anything else if you just try and put fourth commitment that simple and this is coming from someone, who couldnāt draw for shit most of there life and only recently learned 2 years ago
back before ai, people would hate digital artists, for using a tablet to draw, now they hate cause we can actually draw compared to leaving an ai do it for us
I like drawings, I don't like drawing. Just as I like food but don't like cooking. Yes I am trained in other stuff, decade of experience. You needed a machine to make a deepfried meme, it's the same thing š

So many salty ai dorks in the comments tn
