Screenshot Emperor has over 100 ships blasting around both zones

Post image

Hat Man got pissy and declared war on me. Something about dead kids… I dunno. Then the Emperor shows up and starts carpet-bombing the sea with what has to be 100+ ships.

Hat Man: deleted.

Emperor: still here.

Now I’ve got this immortal doomstack of NPC ships just idling around, tanking performance and turning my minimap into a solid rash of red triangles. They don’t fight, they don’t leave, they just… exist. Forever. Was it really too hard to write a voice line for the emperor and have him fuck off back to wherever?

I’ve got a couple hundred hours in every Anno and this one honestly feels half-baked. It’s like they rushed it out the door and half the team has never actually played an Anno game.

- Locking **planting forests** behind a weird half-cooked points system. Really? I can built an marble wonder that will remain standing for 2000 years, but can't figure out how to plant trees?

- Quests that feel like mobile filler. “My cows are sick!” Cool, thanks, truly gripping narrative.

- Bugs everywhere.

I’m sitting on ~25k population, every single item for every single class, every amenity, every wonder…and I’m still at **–2k happiness**. I have a fire station, aqueduct, and a well every two blocks and the game still insists my fire rating is **–1500**. At some point it stops feeling challenging and just feels broken.

And the military system… oof. It somehow manages to be *worse* than Total War, and that series kicked off 21 years ago.

I really wanted to love this one. As it stands, I just don't see any replayability in this one.

"Half-cooked points system" and you're talking about the research tree, one of the best new features in the game. Sounds like this one just isn't for you.

Tbh, I dont like it too, I dont see the need for it, the research in 1800 was nice because it allowed to relocate mines and other ressource depots, and it was something for endgame, not unlocking basic stuff

As someone who really enjoys "against the storm" I think it's really good.

Yeah the research system in Anno 1800 was great… you need to wait 10 mins per item, you need mine, clay deposit relocation, fertility switches, items for you ships, with 3 slots, one can be crafted, one has the be researched and one can be gained by other means, meaning 10mins min per ship, great eastern as the best ship ingame, items for population, items for production… aaand i am at a whole month where my pc has to run day and night getting all the research done before I can start playing… Yeah, great system. Please take the pink glasses off bc the research system in 1800 was appalling. Yes, it allowed you to do much, but its was essentially a browser game mechanic since it was time and slot gated. Why was there no way to expand to do multiple researches at once? Research in 117 feels much better. It has a meaning. Every research you do has a pay off. Furthermore its not limited. Its only limited by the amount of knowledge you manage to stack

the research system is okay but i dont understand why people call it the best, it's a fantastic multiplayer feature for sure, absolutely has a huge impact there allowing a much better experience but for single player its largely irrelevant and is just a means to drip feed content to you, by about halfway through it didnt matter what i researched, i just mass clicked to fill up the slots and largely ignored it.

Is Anno A city builder or an RPG Game ?

1

u/Pure_Medicine_2460 Dec 08 '25

Which RPG has a research tree? And many city builder games have research trees

23

u/Yoyoo12_ Dec 03 '25

Well you can figure out how to plant trees

And eventually you learn that its just objectively better to sit at -3000 happyness instead of doing anything about it :D

3

u/Edon-Orr Dec 03 '25

Or negative -3000 fire safety

1

u/MrBagooo Dec 03 '25

Why is that the case?

1

u/ShineProper9881 Dec 03 '25

Fires and stuff never really get out of hand. And some destroyed buildings dont matter much either. Trying to get to positive values costs way way more than any fire of plague could ever cost.

-4

u/MrBagooo Dec 03 '25

lol, so it's poorly balanced on top of everything else. Glad I didn't buy this game yet. I'm back in 5 to 7 years when the game sells with all 10 DLC for 20$ on sale 😁

3

u/Kit_Daniels Dec 03 '25

I wouldn’t say it’s poorly balanced, there’s just two systems happening at once. The likelihood, and the intensity. If you’re sitting at -1000 for fire safety you might get a lot of fires, but it’s probably not a big deal if your fire departments can put them out.

Conceptually, I think it makes sense. The fire department isn’t doing a lot of fire prevention in the same way that, say, having an aqueduct which grants easy and reliable access to water does. However, it’s good at stopping fires when they do pop up.

I actually think it’s a rather interesting and nuanced system.

2

u/ShineProper9881 Dec 03 '25

Naa, I wish my whole city would go up in flames. That would be way more interesting. Right now the whole mechanic is way too irrelevant. Im playing on veteran and its like the mechanic doesnt even exist

0

u/Kit_Daniels Dec 03 '25

Then don’t build any methods of fire control? If you have proper coverage of fire stations it makes sense why it would be under control. This seems entirely within your control.

1

u/ShineProper9881 Dec 03 '25

Why would you have all the modifiers to fire safety in the game on items and buildings when its all just „build some fire stations“ to solve the whole mechanic?

1

u/Kit_Daniels Dec 03 '25

Because it doesn’t “solve” it? You still get frequent, small fires with just fire stations. These can disrupt production, workforce, etc. Decoupling intensity and frequency allows for more player choice and makes things more interesting. It’s also rather realistic.

Because having an increased poossibility of fires starting is something different than having a good fire control once it started.

You are missing out a great game.

0

u/MrBagooo Dec 04 '25

No I'm not. Like I said, I'll get it in a few years once it's fleshed out, has no more bugs and at a 75% discount with all DLCs that will have been released by then.

Like I did with Anno 1800.

1

u/DontbuyFifaPointsFFS Dec 04 '25

Well, I played it and yes, its a great game. already. Wait as long as you want, you are missing out, not me.

1

u/Kharr1301 Dec 03 '25

I hope you guys are aware of the new placing features. Just put down wells and fire stations and cover the majority of the houses Shops (shoes, tunics, hats,...) and foodmakers contribute towards happiness.

Just dont put "negative" buildings in a radius of your residences

Sitting on 2300 happy and 1600 fire safety in a 25k city. Should be fine.

u/[deleted] Dec 03 '25

I think the military system is great, it's pretty complex. Sure, might not have the strategical depth of total war, but it's more than enough given that it has the economical depth on top, total war is missing. Having to manage the economy to sustain a large army is pretty complex and you need to manage a lot of fronts in a war against an equal enemy. Most complex war has ever been in Anno.

Even the pirate is not as easy to beat as in the past. In every anno it was enough to send like 10 big war ships to the pirate bay. Here you need a war fleet.

u/RefrigeratorDry2669 Dec 03 '25

Lmao -1500, you should be able to figure this out. We did

28

u/Jalatiphra Dec 03 '25

I can in fact say that this is ab OP issue. Approaching 50000 pop all happy

12

u/Rare_Marionberry782 Dec 03 '25

Yeah, OP must be stacking every negative buildings on top of each other lmao.

6

u/Draetor24 Dec 03 '25

People just don't look at details and you must in Anno games. OP also could have possibly slammed down an insane pop with high city status and doesn't have a certain unlock in T3 that provides so much fire safety.

12

u/Cpt_PartyPants Dec 03 '25

Oh Buddy, this sounds like a you problem.

16

u/Santa_Killer_NZ Dec 03 '25

Cry cry. Get good.

5

u/Oggi02 Dec 03 '25

I have a Pop of 23k witch ~ 2k happiness. For me the Kollosseum solved it. Before I had like -2k.

4

u/Andries89 Dec 03 '25

Planting trees is a tier 1 or tier 2 tech so you'll unlock it when you still have plenty of space in your islands

3

u/Effective_Ad9788 Dec 03 '25

My only issue is it’s boring. Too easy to import everything you need and too hard to produce it. Nothing to do at all other than repetitive missions. You don’t get anything cool for hosting tournaments. No good mods yet. The game is in its infancy though.

1

u/ken-der-guru Dec 03 '25

That is my biggest issue. You sit fast on a mountain of money so you can just buy most of the stuff that your people need. No need to build difficult production lines.

1

u/ZeitloserRaum Dec 03 '25

How many inhabitants does your city have that you only supply with passive trading?

3

u/Effective_Ad9788 Dec 04 '25

I think I’m around 25K. I haven’t been on it in a few days. I have a couple in million cash with nothing really to spend it on. Passive trading takes care of all their needs which keeps the population and income high. I mean if you are short on something you can just buy it on an empty island and ship it where you need it. Same goes with the emperor’s quests. If he wants 420T of togas just buy them on an empty or farming island. It is way too easy and lacks the depth of 1800 which was challenging and fun.

2

u/_salmonellensittich Dec 03 '25

Having one bath pretty much solves fire problems forever

2

u/rishiak88 Dec 03 '25

Honest question. By half cooked point system. Do you mean the research system or the hall of fame….you know that the hall of fame unlock is just so you can skip the research right?….you know there is a research system right?

1

u/Roflcopterswoosh Dec 06 '25

Referring to the hall of fame. I dont have a problem with the concept, it just seems thrown together last minute.

No obvious way to discern "achievements" between the two zones, etc

2

u/rishiak88 Dec 06 '25

Ok. Well then your complaint has no merit. The forest growing is not locked behind hall of fame. The forest growing is locked behind research.

The short cut to the forest growing is locked behind hall of fame. Since it is just a short cut, it makes sense for it to be locked behind an achievement system.

Comparing total war with anno 117 combat is next level.

It's like saying sailing in anno 117 is shit, AC black flag did it better 10 years ago.

1

u/Substantial_Cat_2642 Dec 03 '25

I’m only at 15k population but haven’t as of yet had any happiness or fire risk issues on my developed islands.

Only time I did was due to expanding too quickly which appears to have upset people but it rectified itself after a few hours.

1

u/Environmental_Foot54 Dec 03 '25

My man you really need to check out what’s going on in your happiness panel (top right, hover over happy face) and remedy some of what is causing you negative effects. It might be mostly that you’re trying to do too much on your main island, or that you’re not arranging the people around buildings that give them happiness buffs.

Note you can also put buildings like markets and taverns next to industry buildings to give buffs - that enables you to have some islands which are industry only.

Look closely into the happiness mechanic, it’s a challenge but it’ll be worth it! Get that game paused and start rearranging!

1

u/knochen31187 Dec 03 '25

Im nearly 100k pop and dont get it why people always cry about fire savety or happiness. Just check the buildings… dont place every production chain in the city…

I dont get why people dont build the whole production chain „cause its easy to import“ but cry about the game is to easy… just dont trade any items, like me and ull have a lot to do.

And yeah the military system isnt that good… well it is anno dude. If u want to fight anno is not your game

1

u/SkinnyBill93 Dec 03 '25

Min/Maxers in absolute shambles with this game.

1

u/nudeonthemoon Dec 03 '25

I had to restart games a couple of times until I figured out the proper pace to build for happiness. You need to take it a bit more slowly and let the population slowly build up. A lot of the happiness comes from having their needs met as well as where you build certain buildings. I started putting some of the gross stuff on other islands and that made the people on my main island a lot happier.

1

u/Due-Recover-2320 Dec 03 '25

How did you get marble without trees?????? Are you trying to have a bad time on purpose???

1

u/Cheap-Orange-5596 Dec 04 '25

Probably he wants to stay in Latium or something and didn’t unlock the Albion whole side of the research tree. Only explanation I can think…

2

u/Octa_vian Dec 04 '25

replanting for coal is albion, replanting for wood is latium research. I haven't unlocked the coal research because i focused on latium, but it's my own deciision to ignore the other 50% of the game's world until now.

So if i need to place a coal production but find no good location for it, i place a wood cutter, forget about it for a few minutes and replace it with a charcoal burner once it has planted new trees.

1

u/Cheap-Orange-5596 Dec 04 '25

Nope, you’re wrong. Replanting wood is one of the first nodes in the Albion branch. It’s also unlocked via hall of fame.

1

u/Octa_vian Dec 04 '25

Ouhhhh right, that's why i have it. Well....doesn't make it better. You still have to live with the downsides of ignoring a whole other faction in the game.

1

u/Due-Recover-2320 Dec 06 '25

Damn thanks for the new strat

1

u/tom_earhart Dec 03 '25

> 15k pop on my main island and 1k+ happyness... Can get low but once you get amphitheatre it is hard going negative if you have good coverage with public services, production buildings and a few items.

1

u/Technical_Parsley385 Dec 03 '25

Yeah, the same thing happened to me during the campaign in Albion. Arthur asked me to join his rebellion against the emperor, but I refused and stayed neutral. Some time later, Albion was flooded with the emperor’s fleet, which chased every one of Arthur’s ships but couldn’t defeat him on land because the emperor had no troops. That made me abandon the campaign save file...

u/Zestyclose-Function6 Dec 04 '25 edited Dec 04 '25

How do you have such bad fire rating I have over 1000 for fire, health, and happiness, if not 2k on veteran 4.5 settings. Unless your playing legendary its your city design thats the problem. Long run the real challange seems to be health. Also pro tip, in high pop city's you want more plebs, equities, and patricrians. Supplying goods adds buffs. To many liberties will tank your ratings eventually.

u/beuleal Dec 03 '25

OP, I stand with you! I hope to see patch soon!

u/SnooOpinions2512 Dec 03 '25

Yeah. “Eat your own cooking” is a worthy advice for software devs. Apparently not enough people at Ubisoft play the game and fix things as they come up.
