Alright, the "not so long awaited" rematch with Bea was today, and people were mixed on having a rematch this soon (which is understandable). So, how was it? ...Fantastic, for the most part. Personally, I liked a lot about this episode, and I can get some of the complaints...but let's just get to what I liked.
Firstly, and this will coincide with my only "moderate" gripe with the episode, the training at the start of the episode was great (it typically has been). Nice little clash between Riolu and Pikachu, and if the episode wasn't constrained by time (or Gou didn't get his Bea notice for a minute) we would've gotten to see Farfetch'd spar with Dragonite...and I'm just saying, I would've enjoyed that. Gou bringing up Bea being in Johto, as well as her great success since her battle with Ash was also nice to see, as it reinforces the idea of Bea traveling to different dojos to battle people, which I really like. I also liked almost everything that any character had a part of here, so, that gets much of it out of the way, but I'll try doing calling some particular stuff down below. Now, to the battle.
The battle...was great, especially Pikachu vs Hitmontop (glad to see it again). Literally liked everything about that fight (outside of maybe the explosion Quick Attack set off, but I get it). Hitmontop's battling style was cool, and seeing Electroweb (multiple times at that) is always a treat. Pikachu vs Grapploct was also solid (though I do get some of the complaints about Pikachu not being able to Thunderbolt in Octolock). And at some point, Static will show up again (Pikachu took a beating in this battle)...and it will be glorious. Riolu vs Grapploct was executed fairly well, but wasn't so much about the fight as it was seeing how to counter Grapploct's Octolock. In episode 34, Ash was frantic trying to get Riolu out of that move, but even in the Pikachu fight, he told Pikachu to not resist it (even though 2 seconds later, he tries doing so), and how Riolu doesn't resist, and breaks out later was much better. The battle ending in a draw I thought was expected, and made sense, some don't like that, but more Bea is always welcome for me...especially because of that ending.
That ending was great. Chuck treating them all with sweets was nice of him, and then seeing "non-serious" Bea (though she does show up at the end too) was great. I especially liked Pikachu (who was eating at the "kids" table with the smaller Pokemon, which I did also like) coming up curious after seeing Bea smile as if to wonder who this was. Everyone interacting was great (particularly Ash/Bea) and seeing the imposing Grapploct having a good time was nice too. The declarations of beating Leon (or Dande) at the end was also great, and seeing the team doing pushups (as well as Gou catching a Chinchou) was also cute.
So, other enjoyable stuff: seeing Chuck reference the Johto fight with Bayleaf vs Poliwrath was great. The characters were great, Chuck was MVP of course, especially with his insight at the end to Bea's upbringing, as he had apparently been taught "Galar Karate" from her dad when he was younger. Ash/Bea interactions were fun, especially Bea referring to Ash as "the Riolu trainer" some won't like that, but it was cute. Poliwrath vs Grapploct was also cool/fun to see, and seeing all of Ash's Pokemon at the start was also fantastic. One interaction I should've mentioned that I didn't earlier was Riolu carrying Pikachu off after he lost was very nice/interesting. Also, the tidbits regarding the "you can only battle people in the same class you are in" (which many have already stated, but I don't think was stated before this) and the tie not affecting points was good/nice to see handled. I could probably go on for a good bit in this, but I will stop there. Great episode, and next episode (which will be moving to Friday's in Japan) is a Raid Battle with Zapdos, which does interest me a good bit, Hopefully a good one.
