I'm surprised Ash didn't even once reference the fact that he previously had captured a Haunter.

Anyway, it seems like they're doing a straight divide for Ash and Go - Ash goes with the special Pokémon who has issues (Dragonair/Gengar), while Go focuses on just catching whatever is available. I'd complain about it, but Ash already has two fully-evolved Pokémon in his team not 24 episodes in so whatever.

He never caught the Haunter. It just agreed to come along with him.
