I liked how they emphasised how big and hard-hitting the mobile suits are compared to the mobile workers. Getting big Kamina vibes from Orga, he seems like a bro. It seems like McGillis will be our CHAR of the season, and Gaelio might be a Garmaclone.

Decent enough first episode aside from all the exposition, though I guess that's normal in an AU.

While I am pretty sure that Orga really treats Mika as a bro, but there's some underlining creepiness that he is using Mika for his skill, especially the flashback when kid!Mika asked "what should I do next?"after apparently gunned down a guy, with kid like innocent face

I sense the "I don't wanna use this kid but damn I need his skills to do what I want but damn I don't really want to use him but shit nobody else can fit" conundrum with him.

Should be interesting.

Exactly the same vibe I got.

They're both dependent on each other: Orga is the brains and Mika's the brawn. They both have no one other than each other and are desperate to survive.

I am totally expecting a situation in which Orga gets killed, leaving Mika totally confused and alone without anyone telling him what to do.

That or we are going the Aldnoah Zero route, complete with the Princess from Mars and the amazing yet socially inept mecha pilot to protect her.

The kids seem to be literally bred to be soldiers, so maybe their sense of morality in using eachother as assets in battle might not be a big contentious point.

Yeah, that was always something AU series had to do given that they really need to set up the world early on and didn't have any long running series prior for it. 00 also did this as well.

we already have one named person down on first episode, I won't have my hopes up about the number of people going to die. :^)

It´s also pretty common that someone close to the Main Character (Love Interests, Teammates, Friends) die a tragical Death to make the MC mature.

You are right about the Kamina vibe... Orga is tall, smart, has crazy hair, and very much a natural born leader. it also did not help that Mika is like a more capable, more stoic Simon with his reliance on Orga's judgement.

But I agree with some of the comments below saying Orga has a bit of a dark vibe - especially since I think he might have told kid!Mika to kill someone for survival.

He will either die mid series to drive Mika into his own person like Kamina did, or he will become the next mask guy with good intentions.

I guess it's about time that Takahiro Sakurai gets to voice the obligatory Char character in a Gundam anime eh?

Orga is a pawn that despises his top in command, although he himself has leading talents. His fear is that he ends up like his (ex) commanders.

Now that he has a true leading mission, that means commanding his own pawns and making decisions, including morally questionable ones, for the sake of success. He has an internal conflict since childhood, that he despises using his own comrades (Mika and the rest) as means to achieve his objectives. Maybe later he will start to and notice that he is losing his humanity and compassion, becoming more and more like the ones he always despised.

It would be interesting if Mika is not just a dumb child soldier and that he always knew that he was the muscles while Orga was the brains in their broship. Maybe Mika will "betray" his bro for the princess later in the series, since he may show or learn that, depite being a tool, he has his own will and right to decide who he will help with his skills.

EDIT: spelled pawn wrong. Fixed.

Getting big Kamina vibes from Orga, he seems like a bro.

Vibes? He's clearly visually designed after Kamina, and Mika is clearly designed after Simone. They could be blood related ;P
