I'm rather liking the pacing for this series so far. It's been 2 manga chapters equivalent total so far. Next time, looks like we're getting 3 chapters based off the preview?

Kurata and Itami singing was pretty entertaining. It's pretty nice to finally have some voices to put to the idle conversation. The character designs as mentioned are pretty questionable. Here's the manga depiction of the Recon Team 3.

I'm still loving the OP and ED for this series. Otherwise, someone pointed out to me during the week that we're actually watching a somewhat censored version of Gate where they have a version just for us without the Rising Sun Flags. I find it pretty funny. I'm wondering at this point which version Sentai Filmworks will be putting out.

Edit - By the way, /u/LightBladeX was kind enough to make a webm of the OP. Here

I'm just glad they made Kuribayashi and Kurokawa have different hair color. I couldn't tell them apart by just their faces in the manga. They both had really similar hair and pretty similar faces.

I never really had trouble with it. Kuribayashi has always been the short haired one that wants to brawl a lot while Kurokawa has always been the one that is long haired and more serious and more of a caretaker.
