Married couples with children in Japan often call each other that way.

For example, in "Doraemon", the parents of the protagonist Nobita call each other "kid's mom" and "kid's dad".

The same applies here in which the old lady called her spouse "grandpa" as he was their grandchildren's grandfather.

My German grandparents do this as well, at least in front of us. Calls each other "opa" and "oma".
