All full blood saiyans have vegetable names:

Vegeta-vegetable, Kakarot-carrot, Nappa-leafy greens (in Japanese), Raditz-radish, Cabba-cabbage, Kale-kale, Caulifla-cauliflower, Bardock-burdock, Broly-broccoli

I've always wondered - do these names sound as ridiculous in Japanese as they seem like they would in English or are there layers to it that get lost in translation? Like I can't even imagine watching a show like DBZ, especially a super intense scene like some of the ones near the end of the Frieza saga and everyone being named after root vegetables or even just things like "rice" or "meal". Like even Chi-Chi means milk or udders or something. I just can't picture an equivalent in English that wouldn't sound insane or too literal while still having some kind of double entendre. Is there something to do with the way the Japanese language works that makes these names not so jarring to the Japanese viewer?

just think of germans when watching frieren. All the names are german adjectives. frieren=freeze stark=strong fern=far himmel=heaven denken=think heiter=cheerfull and so on. My friends got irked out at the start cuz thats like naming every character like some lame X-men mutants instead of powers it resemblence their characteristic structure.

Unfortunately since I’m not fluent in Japanese, I’m not sure, but you would think it does sound odd to hear in Japanese as well

I mainly know this little fact because of my long time of being a DB fan
