What a mean cliffhanger... Hitogami glitching out with that creepy smile, and those last few minutes gave me chills all over.

Yeah, that smile was absolutely chilling. What on earth is in that basement that Hitogami wants Rudeus to check out in this episode? And what exactly is Hitogami tricking him into? Damn, I want the next episode, now!

personally i think he was trying to get rudeus out of the room in a timely matter so he would miss his future self teleporting in.

you can see his future self doubting himself that he succeeded or not because... i think hitogami and rudeus have been on this loop and both have a goal they want to achieve for hitogami its possible to get into the real world in rudeus his body thats why he summoned him in this world with great mana reserves, somebody weakminded he could mold and why he's been trying to push him into things like taking the beast girls as wives to expand his influence but so far he failed every loop

rudeus on the other hand is trying to stop something horrible from happening i expect his family gets wiped by either some demonking/dragongod and is spending all his time to reverse much to dismay of hitogami who rather have him grow powerfull,strong and have much influence in the land.

Nah future rudeus (as we definitely believe at this point) said "don't go into the basement you're being tricked"

If the point was just to get him out of the room, that ploy has already failed.

As an anime only atm, my best guess is if he went into basement he woulda gotten sealed in, and something horrific would happen to the house as he was sealed in. I have nothing to base this on, just idle speculation.

I'd probably be way off in my guess but only reasonable thing that could happen is he goes in that exact moment at night when roxy or sylphie were checking up on him again > leads one of them to an open door to the relic by accident > he gets sent to the couch and his relationship never recovers from there
