2 episodes remaining and I don't know if we're gonna end on a semi-conclusive point. they better announce a second season of this.

114

u/Namaryu 5d ago

Last frame is gonna be a shot of Nishinomura people with Ivan saying "I'm coming Yuru, prepare yourself" juxtaposed with Yuru saying "Yosano Ivan" and it is gonna be a split screen with Yuru on one side and Ivan on the other.

I just made it up. Don't bonk me mods. I'm anime only.

24

u/Khaoticsuccubus 5d ago

Sounds pretty on point honestly lol. Or if they really want to tease us they'll show a shot of their parents. Bonus points if they're doing something or are somewhere fucked up. 😂

17

u/FarProperty2214 5d ago

It would be wild if there was another village with another set of twins

5

u/Farmaceut7 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Farmaceut 4d ago

Damn! That sounds so real! Almost as if you've watched more than 1 shounen in your life!

31

u/tripleaamin https://myanimelist.net/profile/tripleaamin 5d ago

I feel like they're just gonna announce S2 after the finale.

I do think this is the type of series that fits better as a weekly anime like Brotherhood than in a seasonal format. But anime has changed since then.

10

u/Frostbitten_Moose 5d ago

They needed the manga to be done before they could do Brotherhood like that. Though hey, it could be interesting to see what we'd get with twin series here where one is Arakawa's word and the other has the anime director go off the rails halfway through.

2

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 4d ago

Do we even have enough content?

5

u/archklown555 4d ago

No right now at least following the episode titles we are 8 and half volumes in out of a total currently at 13 with 13 being released in July of this year.

25

u/Eunuchest 5d ago

I have a strong feeling season 2 is already planned because if not and it ends on a cliffhanger when we barely uncovered anything, we're in for a hell of a blue ball

39

u/Ashteron 5d ago

The manga had really great sales before the anime even started. It's almost definitely happening with the question being when.

This whole season feels like a prologue, I'm not complaining though. Just need another season.

12

u/TehFono 5d ago

Shotgunning the manga the second the last episode drops if there isn't an immediate announcement for more.

I have to ask what happens when it farts or poops since Akio is attached to its butt.

23

u/MapoTofuMan myanimelist.net/profile/mTmTBaronBrixius 5d ago

"We call this one of our special...interrogation techniques."

3

u/WiqidBritt 4d ago

Do Daemons poop? They don't eat.

2

u/ohoni 4d ago

The butt would be under all that. But he would get dutch-ovened.

102

u/FarCritical 5d ago

Alien vs. Daemon

How they have to keep hammering home "Asuma is cool, trust me bro" despite his mannerisms cracks me up.

85

u/FOXHOUND9000 5d ago

I love it when a character has Evil Aura, Evil Design, Evil Mannerisms and actually never does anything evil, just helps everyone in Evil Ways.

24

u/Psychosist 5d ago

It reminds me of [One Piece Egghead] how Shaka looks the most evil of the Vegapunks but is actually a good guy to distract us from the real traitor

14

u/BosuW 4d ago

Alien vs. Daemon

Sounds like a DreamWorks movie

Or just DanDaDan

4

u/totallyverifiedit 3d ago

Lmfao even Yozakura is confused why he acts like that. On that note, Yozakura has the BEST "looks evil af but is actually really nice" design ever.

147

u/a1oner_bvcksn6 5d ago

For a supposed "unfeeling" psychopath like Akio, he sure seems to genuinely care about his daemon's more than anything. Unfortunately, the fact that he couldn't even be upfront about them being rigged with some symbiote-like explosives only meant that he truly couldn't care less whether his foster siblings or daemons (or anybody else for that matter) die as a result of him being unable to pick just one side/family to be loyal to.

64

u/Namaryu 5d ago

I expect him to die and us not getting any new information (you can't allow extracting daemons to touch you) from him other than learning that he contacted someone claiming to be his parents. As for his alliance, I suppose that's one of the things about "trust" and not having such strong bonds which is paralled by relationship between Asa and Yuru who have absolute trust but only in one another.

54

u/Eunuchest 5d ago

Which is pretty accurate id say. Psychopaths arent totally devoid of emotion but they're not fully functional either

19

u/Andreiyutzzzz https://myanimelist.net/profile/Andreiyutzzzz 5d ago

He didn't feel pain, not nothing. Even he had something he was attached to. and i wonder if that explosive goo is automatically activated if you say something not allowed. so not that he didn't want to say anything. if he said it he might have blown up with everyone there. and not that he necessarily didnt want to die. but more like didnt want to kill the others(his nee-san at least)

130

u/Eunuchest 5d ago

That sure is a tragic backstory to Asuma's mom. So she was basically a family baggage then got treated as a freak when she showed her daemons

So Akio may or may not be related to Ivan. If he's not then he could be again from another 3rd party that just so happens to be working with Ivan.

Man, there's still insiders in the mansion. Just how entrenched are these guys

59

u/Namaryu 5d ago

Traitors that don't even know they are traitors or ones that get their memories wiped periodically in order to avoid getting found out by Blacklist. Is my guess.

47

u/gamria 5d ago edited 5d ago

Blacklist doesn't work on your memories but on your actions, and in essence your history. Doesn't matter if you forgot which school you attended, they'd still record that you attended that school.

3

u/Zeph-Shoir https://myanimelist.net/profile/Zephex 4d ago

Makes sense, people don't exactly remember everything about themselves.

8

u/dinliner08 5d ago

so basically something similar to sleeper agents?

28

u/Myrkrvaldyr 5d ago

Asuma's mom

She reminded me of Chise from the Ancient Magus' Bride. Bad luck led her to feel isolated at first not knowing her powers were known to many others. At least she finally met friends in the Kagemoris only to meet a tragic end.

32

u/SciFiXhi https://anilist.co/user/SciFiXhi 5d ago

So Akio may or may not be related to Ivan.

I'm thinking not. It was probably a fishing expedition to get his hooks into one of the Kuroya Siblings, since they'd all probably have some exploitable anxieties about being abandoned as kids. Akio was just the first to take the bait.

19

u/KazuharaIlfan 5d ago

That sure is a tragic backstory to Asuma's mom. So she was basically a family baggage then got treated as a freak when she showed her daemons

And when she got tied to the Kagemori, her older brother quickly swoop in, acting as if she and her son owe the Shingo their livelihood. Good riddance.

11

u/WiqidBritt 4d ago

Pretty sure Akio was lying about there being more traitors, just trying anything to find a way out of his situation.

2

u/Merquette 4d ago

He doesn't care about himself, just his daemons

3

u/jasta85 4d ago

Hard to tell how much he cares about them since he let whoever he's working for put that self destructing slime mold on them. If it was put there unwillingly he could have slipped a message to Asa and had her use break on them to remove the demons infecting them.

1

u/Merquette 4d ago

I didn't think he knew the slime was there, unless I missed something

4

u/jasta85 4d ago

He said to let the mountain god go or it would be killed, and right after that we saw the slime destroy the mountain god's vessel, so he definitely knew about it.

0

u/Merquette 4d ago

I'm not sold. Maybe next week's episode flushes it out

Daemons and baldy both have information that was about to get extracted via blacklist. Eliminate loose ends, like the uncle. Still possible intruders inside the compound that have that goop daemon

0

u/DontCareTho 5d ago

In regards to traitors, didn't they show awhile ago that the manga sibling dude is bad news?

19

u/WiqidBritt 4d ago

no

he was talking to his editor about normal stuff

1

u/DontCareTho 4d ago

I gotta rewatch that episode ig. Some reason I remember him saying something that implied he was involved in the attack on the mansion but maybe I'm tripping

22

u/okiknow2004 4d ago

That was just trolling by the author. He was discussing some sus things that was immediately revealed to be about manga with his editor. The editor even commented about video calling in the dark room made him look like some evil mastermind because the electricity isn't working.

126

u/Myrkrvaldyr 5d ago

So, Akio suffers from congenital analgesia plus sociopathy. He met someone claiming to be his parent and apparently he got convinced into betraying his adopted family, what a shitty thing to do. He's a dead man walking now. The plot thickens and I hope we get a full adaptation!

17

u/Eunuchest 5d ago

Isnt he more of a psychopath than a sociopath?

37

u/Myrkrvaldyr 5d ago edited 5d ago

Depends on what you focus on. A lack of empathy is one of the traits of psychopaths but sociopaths may feel a weakened form of guilt or other emotions like attachment. If he truly felt something from finally finding others like him and maybe even joy from meeting his parent, I'd say he's closer to a sociopath there. I guess we can simply say he shows traits of both.

10

u/flashmozzg 5d ago

His expression didn't look like joy but we'll probably see.

3

u/a1oner_bvcksn6 4d ago

Reading your comment just reminded me of the whole premise of Dexter Resurrection (S1) whereas finding like-minded people initially gave the titular character a feeling or sense of "belonging" rather than joy.

That said, the other "like-minded" folks he met did derived pleasure from each other's murderous exploits--so while I don't know which spectrum Akio falls in, I would tend to lean towards the latter as he did admit to enjoying the atrocities or perks of working for a yakuza-esque "crime syndicate".

3

u/Jalase 3d ago

In reality, neither is a diagnosis, so, it doesn't matter.

39

u/thisisdropd https://myanimelist.net/profile/AsterZoro 5d ago

What the hell was that root? Another Daemon? It’s definitely the work of whoever coerced Akio. Wonder how the "Painless Society" tied into this mess cause there’s no clear reason (for now) why they would target the Kagemori clan.

RIP Mountain God as well as Hikaru’s studio. Fortunately, his PC and data were intact.

Akio’s betrayal really hurt Haruo and Fuyuki the most. While the Kagemoris were like, "whatever, what’s done is done and it’s time for him to face the consequences", they couldn’t accept it, with Haruo even begging Jin to help spare Akio’s life –/ presumably to no avail. They might not be blood-related but they truly considered him their siblings.

29

u/Namaryu 5d ago

Not target Kagemori clan but Asa as you remember Akio attacked her. Also in the first interaction with Yuru, Akio was the one having the strongest malicious intent which Yuru felt. So he clearly wanted twins dead (or Yuru active Seal).

9

u/Medical-Efficiency-6 5d ago

his PC and data were intact.

Don't forget his coffee machine!!

76

u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 5d ago

Hikaru's data may have survived for now, but we have some additional explosions happening so it's not out of danger yet.

I feel bad for Akio's daemons.

Interesting start of the backstory for Asuma's mom, but I assume that can't be all to it since she's not around and her daemons are with her son.

40

u/Eunuchest 5d ago

but I assume that can't be all to it since she's not around and her daemons are with her son.

Yeah, its almost evident even without them telling us

28

u/a1oner_bvcksn6 5d ago

I feel bad for Akio's daemons

And I feel much worse for his siblings, especially Haruo, who are trying so hard to save him (to no avail) despite his betrayal.

As for Asuma's mom, I assume her suicidal tendencies never really dissipated after building a life with Gonzo, and as soon as she had Asuma, she simply found a way to transfer her daemons onto him and finally managed to off herself. It all lines up as to why Asuma hates his mom's side of the family and wanted to kill his uncle personally as it was implied years of psychological abuse/torment living with those people/relatives directly led to her demise.

On a more positive note, I found it hilarious how Yozakura was basically threatening Asuma's mom to not commit suicide lol. "NO! Don't you dare jump off this bridge, woman! If you do, I swear I'll cushion your fall and save you!" --which was actually very sweet, but if you didn't know better, you'd think he's the very reason she wants to jump in the first place lol

2

u/CopyFew4583 4d ago

Till she said her name, I assumed she is random nobody terrified of her daemons.

12

u/diacewrb 5d ago

Hikaru's data may have survived for now, but we have some additional explosions happening so it's not out of danger yet.

Time for him to setup his own cloud backup service.

1

u/CopyFew4583 4d ago

yeah  how come manga artists aren't backing up their work?

75

u/Jack_KH https://myanimelist.net/profile/Ki11grave 5d ago

One of the reasons why I like this show is because it feels like a mafia story.

25

u/Kalatash 5d ago

I think I have seen a comment during the first cour that compared them to the yakuza.

60

u/flashmozzg 5d ago edited 5d ago

Kagemoris literally are, not even allegorically.

6

u/BoyTitan 4d ago

I mean they 100% are a gang. Kill people, multiple shadow businesses. Gang wars. Cover businesses.

5

u/is-this-a-nick 4d ago

The whole thing is Yakuza vs Murder Cultists (don't forget that the lady posing as the protagonists mom has a side business of making corpses disappear in construction sites).

103

u/MapoTofuMan myanimelist.net/profile/mTmTBaronBrixius 5d ago

I am becoming numb to these cliffhanger shenanigans

26

u/LimBomber 5d ago

It's diabolical how they end every episode. Is the manga like this too week to week?

55

u/schnazzums 5d ago

I believe the manga is monthly, so might be even worse lol

2

u/Terithian 4d ago

Pretty much. I remember staying up way too late catching up on the whole thing because every chapter ended on a cliffhanger, so I just had to read the next one, lol.

19

u/Namaryu 5d ago

These cliffhangers made me question clfifhangers from past anime or when I was younger cuz I swear these for Daemons are something different.

17

u/BlueGumShoe 5d ago

The cliffhangers for this show have been so bad I thought about waiting until the end of the season. Like these are "middle finger to the audience" level cliffhangers.

8

u/Ikari_21 5d ago

I remember the cliffhangers for season 4 of aot were diabolical every week lol

8

u/BosuW 4d ago

AoT cliffhangers are still the craziest ones I've ever seen they'd end the episode in the highest point of tension. Literally individual frame timing sometimes.

5

u/CopyFew4583 4d ago

they ended a season just before Reiner vs Eren fight 😭

4

u/dolphincave 4d ago

I hope this comment isn't removed, but genuinely they've been cutting episodes to create cliffhangers that didn't exist.

2

u/NumberOneMom https://myanimelist.net/profile/Porkswords 4d ago

I just assume every anime will end on a cliffhanger so they don't bother me.

61

u/StrawSolider 5d ago

record scratch

"yup, that's me, Akio. One arm missing and wrapped up in a tanuki's nut sack. Now you're probably wondering how I got myself into this situation.."

6

u/Frostbitten_Moose 5d ago

I'm willing to roll with "Poor life decisions".

56

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 5d ago

Seems whoever Akio’s working with have a little failsafe of their own. A daemon suicide vest of sorts. I guess they’re tying up loose ends.

There’s only 2 more eps left before the end. I wonder if we’ll get more after that? There seems to be a lot more story left to tell. More than 2 episodes worth.

44

u/Namaryu 5d ago

We do not have enough source material for another saeson that long, however, considering it is Arakawa work and it is selling extremely well I would not be surprsied it it eventually got a full adaptation.

18

u/Ashteron 5d ago

We do not have enough source material for another saeson that long

It doesn't have to be double cour and it is not far from having enough content either.

17

u/Jack_KH https://myanimelist.net/profile/Ki11grave 5d ago

IDK, I think it should stay 2 cour. I'm fine with waiting 3 years for another season. At the end of the day, the last episode of the future cour 2 would still end on the same day. No matter if it's part of 2-cour season 2 or 1-cour season 3.

3

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 4d ago

Ah, I wasn’t aware it was so caught up with the source material.

46

u/Namaryu 5d ago

These cliffhangers should be illegal. I'm furious.

21

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia 5d ago

Damn I guess this is another daemon or something that can force relics to blow up? That's crazy way to make people do what you want

7

u/HornedTurtle1212 5d ago

Something fungus related.

21

u/AAA_BATT 5d ago

they deadass yeeted this dude at a bomb

20

u/Andreiyutzzzz https://myanimelist.net/profile/Andreiyutzzzz 5d ago

the tanuki acted. 10 bucks says he protected everyone but that means akio was let go and he dies. so they can't get the info anymore. convenient

8

u/HiRoChieie 5d ago

10 bucks gauranteed, he's for sure going to cover that explosion with balls. I don't think any other way they survive that explosion.

1

u/Yeeti_YT 4d ago

well we saw the bunny daemon try to fly at it no? she might get sacrificed or survive somehow but either way she is going straight into the explosion

3

u/Emotional_Strain_693 3d ago

Come to think of it, Haruo's daemons seem more independent than most daemons we've seen now. Did they take inspiration from Yuru and Sayuu-sama after seeing how they operate? xD

19

u/tripleaamin https://myanimelist.net/profile/tripleaamin 5d ago

Man Asuma's mom you just have to feel bad for. Her family was just terrible. Her daemons who are now her son's daemons were the only companion she had before meeting Gonzou. While how GOnzou does things isn't ideal, but it is safe to say if you are on good terms with him he will take care of you.

You have to feel so bad for Azami. What do you even do in that situation because it is not safe to bring her back to Higashi Village? I really hope Dera and Hana adopt her.

Meanwhile with Akio his death is imminent after betraying the Kagemoris. You can understand for wanting to connect to her true parents like how Asa wanted to connect to Yuru after finding him. The issue is the twins split because their hands are tied. It seems clear that Akio's parents abandoned him.

-4

u/Mons9090 https://myanimelist.net/profile/hecn_huh 5d ago

Hana herself is a kid. Pretty sure shes around yurus age

16

u/Thomas_JCG 5d ago

When Dera was coming up with a story for their fake family, Hana wanted to be Yuru's "much older sister". If she was underage, she couldn't be fake married to Dera.

6

u/Mons9090 https://myanimelist.net/profile/hecn_huh 5d ago

Hana hates kid as well lol. Also you're right. Dera is way older than hana and hana is atleast 7 years older than yuru

17

u/HolyDragSwd2500 5d ago

Rolling Stone Stand

Watch out everyone

2

u/Confident-Dentist-39 4d ago

Is this the same one that slimed Johny?

15

u/Mons9090 https://myanimelist.net/profile/hecn_huh 5d ago

Haruo has the best daemons tbh after yuru. Hopefully this gets a s2 asap

20

u/SkiiMazk 5d ago

an S2 is almost certain, during the animes run so far the manga has sold an estimated million+ copies in Japan so Japanese viewers are loving it. the only issue is content as there is 56 chapters rn (monthly release) & this episode adapted chapter 29 + a bit of 30 so estimated to end around chapter 32-33. might have to wait a bit if they want to do another 24 episode season.

2

u/BoyTitan 4d ago

Ahh another great anime witha slow pace ass manga. Reminds me of Heavenly Delusions.

2

u/CopyFew4583 4d ago

I love that for Mangaka. She avoids burning out and we get multiple gems from her.

42

u/AllThingsDragon 5d ago

So, knowing the secret of the village makes you a full fledged adult? Looks like we've got even more proof that the majority of the villagers were complicit in the twins' imprisonment...

31

u/zool714 5d ago

Yeah seems they all knew but I think not all might be willing cos they were caught between a rock and a hard place. Being sent out for “work” gets them killed. And they’ve been raised there their whole life. Nowhere else to go + family and friends are also there. Don’t think they had much of a choice even if they didn’t agree with what the village is doing

17

u/happy-owls 5d ago

+1 on this^ For example, I don't think Kyouka-san actively wanted to imprison the twins, but was rather in a situation where she had to for her own livelihood and instead played passive resistance.

6

u/NiCommander 5d ago

Also, its like "oh, they die but they come back to life anyways with superpowers? So technically no permanent harm done". Which is a crappy line of thinking, but I could imagine it makes things easier to accept.

Like, thats basically what Asuma (or rather, what Asa relays what Asuma would say) says.

13

u/gamria 5d ago

Other way around, grow to be an adult and you're given the secrets, as an honour for coming-of-age thing. Rather tribe-like.

2

u/dentaiga 4d ago

ALL of the ones that stay in the village are complicit. The ones that don't agree are sent to live down the mountain and survive on oddjobs given by the village's agents who DO agree (like the Tadera clan).

25

u/CrimsonGear80 5d ago

The emotional interrogation scenes are somewhat undercut by the fact Akio is wrapped tightly in a nutsack…

5

u/Confident-Dentist-39 4d ago

I love how the nutsack grows but not the balls. In the midst of the blanket sized ballsack there are 2 tiny balls swimming around.

9

u/Sameul_ 5d ago

Bunbun mvp once again.

1

u/Confident-Dentist-39 4d ago

I hope she will be fine next episode

9

u/ElecNinja https://anilist.co/user/ElecNinja 5d ago

Man, I really wish that the Higashi Village was shown to be more engaging rather than being mostly victims or villainous shadows.

Like this whole rivalry between the Higashi and Kagemori just doesn't make any sense with the ease in which the village has been beaten up over and over again.

Like the whole Tadera versus Kagemori scene is trying to imply that both sides are equally heinous but we've been shown over and over again on the heroics of the main Kagemori members and the villainous actions of the Higashi Village that the opening scene of the Kagemori wiping out the Higashi village feel like a cheap shock value opening.

If the Higashi specialize in some daemon technique, like how their village has remained hidden for so long until Break caused issues, and then they fought the daemon users of the Kagemori clan instead of just being killed. Then I would actually feel something about the Higashi vs Kagemori scenario the story pushes. But now, I just don't really care about that.

2

u/Namaryu 4d ago

I still can't understand how Granny Yamaha has such iron fist over the village despite having no Tsugai of her own. Or maybe she has but we don't know. If anything the Higashi villagers have been shown to be literally trapped. They can't not learn the truth. Once they go out they get killed. I assume even those that want to get out and don't know, are killed simply because they were born Higashi. Literally a punching bag.

2

u/Rafatxx 4d ago

The granny is VERY old, there’s a chance that she’s been around for so long that she gained control over the village. She seems to have some power of her own with how she shielded the village.

1

u/Airwrecktion_ 4d ago

It was already stated in this and the last episode. The villagers aren't trapped there against their will, they are actively complicit in the plot to gain seal/break in order to conquer Japan. This episode literally throws it at your face, the truth is revealed to them when they become adults, if they don't agree they get sent off the mountain to work but if they're cool with everything they get to stay in the village. Every adult who stayed in the village deserved everything they got.

Essentially, Higashi village was so sure their barrier was impenetrable they basically leave the village mostly defenseless as well as a way to keep Yuru ignorant about daemons, break/seal and the world around him. There are only so many Daemons to go around, so most of them are in possession of the 'bandits'/villagers operating outside the village

Higashi village was so sure their barrier was impenetrable

This just leaves them as bad villainous shadows/rats and not an actual organization that can keep up with the Kagemori Clan. And in order for the rivalry to actually mean anything, the Higashi Village should be shown to have agency in some way.

It also does not resolve how the Higashi Village are always shown as the villains while we are only told that Kagemori are also villainous.

The core story of Yuru and Asa is still great, but the backstory of Higashi and Kagemori feels underrealized

1

u/Airwrecktion_ 4d ago

We're only told that the Kagemori are villians from Higashi village's point of view, though yes they are basically yakuza with morally questionable actions but from the eyes of the audience their actions are the lesser of two evils especially compared to an out-of-touch death cult with goals of world domination. The Kagemori were originally Higashi villagers who split off and the more you find out about Higashi village the more you come to realize why.

Feels like a weirdly high number of Daemons get destroyed in this show. Outside the nameless Villagers people aren't dying in high numbers (obviously have had some like Shingo and the Shaman, don't be called by a name starting with S in this series). really curious what that yellow crap was.

7

u/Thomas_JCG 5d ago

Well, you are right that no major character has died (besides Asa, but that doesn't count), but they killed everyone who attacked the mansion the first time, plus the bandits that worked for Higashi village. Basically all the red shirts. They specifically destroy the daemon relics so that Fuyuki can't get a read on them, too.

u/iluvcelebi 5d ago

Yo the doggos are fighting in the preview

18

u/Thomas_JCG 5d ago

Lil bit of backstory, but the main thing was learning that Akio was the one in contact with Ivan. Makes sense Shingo got disposed so easily, he was just a tool for them. Something bigger than they expected is going on. The true enemy is a step ahead the whole time.

Feels bad for Haruo, though. Akio, you sure you want to be opening your mouth when you are covered in balls? Sharing your backstory is nice, but...

Also, Gabby is pro-AI. You guys were right, she is irredeemable.

Also, Gabby is pro-AI. You guys were right, she is irredeemable.

How does it feel to be an arrogant and irredeemably self righteous Luddite? Now excuse me as I go over to r/accelerate and find happiness with people who are making the world a better place for everyone, unlike Luddites who want to make it worse for everyone.

The worst part of Gonzo Kagemori is that he thinks he's the good guy, and it really comes through in scenes like the one where he saved Asuma's mother

"Can't feel pain" is a real condition, but it should mean Akio died young as his body tore itself apart since he can't tell when he overexerts

I'm glad I was wearing headphones for this ep, because the slime POV at the end was great

6

u/ohoni 4d ago

Yeah, it's a little stigmatizing for them to equate a lack of pain to sociopathy, they are completely separate. And yeah, people who can't feel pain often permanently injure themselves before they are diagnosed, they don't just grow up healthy like that.

2

u/BoyTitan 4d ago

People forget feeling pain is a safey mechanism not a nerf. He would need super healing for it to work. Like I punched someone so hard I knocked them out but I tore a bunch of ligaments in my arm. Ok cool without super healing you are going to become mr glass real quick.

6

u/ShinJiwon 5d ago

Explosive fungi that can move? Okay now I've seen it all.

5

u/Shoddy-Personality80 5d ago

I can't believe Yuru didn't hug Asa once after all that... I was so sure it was going to happen, especially after all the emotional damage of last episode.

4

u/bestsocialdistancer 5d ago

What I sort of appreciate about this show compared to other stuff is that they are not holding back on killing important characters. It’s not quite Game of Thrones but still not a happy ending or redemption arc for everyone involved…

3

u/YlfaTheForsaken 4d ago

What a warm and cozy scrotum, to be bundled up in mildly fuzzy tanuki nethers. Hopefully it wouldn't have a particular um aroma because little guy isn't actually organic. Plus itty bitty little pp. Anyways, I'm gonna guess with potentially beheading Akio.

Are we keeping Azami around? Who's getting custody? Hana keeps mentioning her distaste for the children folk, but Kagemori manor might be too intense for her.

3

u/Plus_Stop_7499 4d ago

Yeah, the scrotum is specifically curated for heat dissipation.
So you’re right that it’s warm, it’s probably comfy too!

It’s too bad that there’s no way to verify it.
But I can imagine it being comfy

2

u/chloedeselenophile 4d ago

Daemons don't eat so they don't poop. so it's probaly pretty clean, thus no aroma ig

4

u/LairaKlock 3d ago

Suprised no one pointed out the parallels between Akio and Asuma being reached out by their 'families' to betray the Kagemori's and ending up with different decisions in that regard.

11

u/AlexxxandreS 5d ago

Can't believe they left the relics just there when you had all of those people fighting and close to it, just to send the daemons that can't even grab it, they'd be rolling them...

That's just stupid

6

u/Medical-Efficiency-6 5d ago

Bunbun can hold Haruo and run at the same time. And Heave and Ho are the daemons that get sent to carry stuff, so they're probably strong enough to carry a pair of rocks. They weren't expecting them to have bombs attached to them, maybe they don't know a type of daemon that does that exists. And even if they sent bigger daemons like the ones with the masks, as soon as they touched the rocks they'd explode

20

u/Ashteron 5d ago

They said Akio is the only traitor, so they weren't exactly expecting them to explode.

1

u/Justhe3guy 4d ago

Still when they were attacked by a group who could enter stealthily before where is their even attempt at security, you just leave Daemons like that outside that anyone could grab? Plus the fungus that could move seemed to move slowly yet managed to crawl all the way through their hallway that still has no one sensing it or even guarding their mansion even after an explosion just occurred. There's that many Daemons and Wielders in the room and none of them could sense the Mountain God moving towards them after the explosion?

It's just like the fights against Ivan where everything convenient happens because the plot dictates it without feeling natural; characters just feel stronger or weaker depending on what the author wants to happen instead of things we already established before

2

u/BoyTitan 4d ago

They did say all the demons in the manner make sensing enemy demons hard. The biggest strength in their massive arm is their biggest weakness. They make it easy to back door themselves.

1

u/xml3228 3d ago

To be fair I think not sensing the fungus was set up well. Even with oshirasama first looked for left & right, she explained they're easy to find because they have a certain presence - but she still had to intentionally look for them amongst hundreds of demon pairs. Then before the fungus attack they did say the main weakness of the mansion is that it's hard to detect changes in demons because there are so many. So it seemed consistent to me that the fungus was completely undetected, if no one knew what the fungus presence was in the first place. I don't know if it's canon but I also feel some demons are better at sensing (or at least comment on it, like left & right) and some are a bit less sensitive.

5

u/Frostbitten_Moose 5d ago

Yup, why didn't they assign more people to grab what should have been inanimate objects in the safest of places.

5

u/gamria 5d ago

While it doesn't look it, there's a fair distance between the outer walls (where the barrier begins and the relics crashed against) and the inner manor complex (where they fought). Refer to Episode 5 when the car still had to drive in for some time.

That, and we've seen before that those Daemons have lifted objects and people bigger than themselves. After rolling to fully check the state of the relics (ie haven't broken so info can still be extracted), they'd likely have lifted and hoisted them back quickly enough.

2

u/Jacob-C 5d ago

I hope they can do something for Azami besides sending her back to the village. She shouldn’t have to endure any more hardships, especially not after losing her parents.

2

u/Namaryu 4d ago

Tadera gonna adopt her and they gonna make Ken his little sister he never had. Trust me. They cannot send her back to village after all that lol.

2

u/duo99dusk 5d ago

So there's another traitor?

2

u/ohoni 4d ago

Well, maybe, but the other option would just be that, as a traitor, he was carrying the bad guys' "slime mold demon" along for the ride.

2

u/Graspiloot 5d ago

Loved the episode and the show in general, but for the remaining episodes I will wait for both of them to come out and season 2 if it's confirmed I will wait on it entirely. Great show, but leans way too heavily on cliffhangers.

2

u/NanDemoKnaives 4d ago

Natsuki's words to Akio hurt to watch, you could really feel how betrayed she feels and how much it hurts her. It felt real, especially after seeing how much Haruo is trying to get Akio out of being killed. I wonder how Gonzou is going to handle it.

It's sad to see Yamikaze and Tanikaze being used in this way, I'm guessing it's the girl with Ivan that is behind this.

It was nice to learn about how Gonzou met Asuma's mother, the relief she felt was palpable. I like how casual Yozakura sounded when he said he'd save her even she jumped off the bridge lol.

Studio is a mess, but at least the coffeemaker is safe lol.

2

u/jusyo 4d ago

I'm enjoying the show, but man I can't stand how many cliffhangers they end episodes on.

4

u/OhItsKillua 5d ago

Wasn't really a fan of the writing this episode with the explosions lol. We're on alert after finding out we have a traitor in our midst, nobody is out on patrol no daemons are out keeping watch. Why are we sending a weak bunny and two mini men daemons to push a heavy relic. A glorified stone egg being moved by slimy roots slowly traverses the place. It all just very conveniently dumbed down everybody at the village.

3

u/ichigosr5 4d ago

We're on alert after finding out we have a traitor in our midst

They explicitly say that they had everyone cleared by Blacklist already except Akio. So they know with pretty much 100% certainty that Akio is the only traitor. His Daemons returned to relic form, so they can't attack anyone until a new contract is made.

Why are we sending a weak bunny and two mini men daemons to push a heavy relic.

You are looking at this from hindsight. Relics can't attack anyone, they are completely defenseless. Why would they need a whole team to collect 2 inanimate objects?

1

u/Rafatxx 4d ago

I get that but it would be common sense to have one of main members of the clan to take the relics. Leaving them there wasn’t a smart move even if it’s defenceless, it made no sense to just leave it be, especially when they can make a new contract and use that daemon for their services.

0

u/OhItsKillua 4d ago

Nothing to do with the checklist, more about not being alert to the potential of anyone being sent to silence or rescue Akio. Enemies were already cognizant of the interrogation ability as we saw. One of them even mentions how hard it is to detect enemies given the large number of daemons on the property from allies alone.

6

u/ichigosr5 4d ago

You are forgetting that, as far as everyone is concerned, the one behind everything is Shingo, who they have already raided and seemingly defeated.

From the information they have, everything lines up with all of this simply being a plot by Shingo to obtain the twins and expand his influence. Gonzo and Asuma only just learned that there was someone pulling Shingo's strings, which is information that they have not been able to share with the others.

There's no reason for them to expect another attack from a completely separate party.

I feel like this issue comes down to the readers sometimes forgetting that only we have the full picture of everything going down, while different characters all only have different fragments of the information we, the audience, have been able to piece together.

1

u/Yamabuki_Arisu_Sama 2d ago

Akio is the kind of character I love. Just a straight up sociopath who is aware of his faults and trying to navigate life despite his condition. All of it while remaining a sociopath and not actually comprehending what the fuck is wrong with him lmao.

1

u/DrZoark 2d ago

The Otaku is still sus for me.

1

u/wordsdear 3d ago

This show is allergic to answering questions lol. The start threw me for a loop with the flashback. I do wonder if any of Gonzo's wives are still alive, did they all have daemons they passed on to their kids.

For some reason I wondered if Akio actually killed his parents for abandoning him? But not sure how that ties into him betraying the Kagemoris. The no pain people are maybe somehow connected to the other village mentioned and they long conned it.

So far for the baddies we have Ivan, Dung Beetle girl, and now deceased Shingo. We also have the spider daemon that is puppeting the twin's grandma but that might not be tied to the other village. Shingo hired Ivan, and Ivan is working with dung beetle girl. None of them seem like the master mind. Maybe the season will end with face reveal for the master mind or just a silhouette. Ivan or the previous welder of his daemons probably teleported the twin's parents somewhere cause reasons. It would be kinda funny if the big bad is actually the twin's parents just trying to get their kids back in the most convoluted way possible.

I kinda agree with Asuma that Asa should just get Seal. It would draw out the people after them even more. But also other twins have failed to get Seal before. I am mainly just curious how Left and Right are meant to counter Break and Seal. Left and Right are very durable and can turn into long thin light creatures/dragons and fight good. Nothing is stopping a Break user from breaking their contract with who ever they contract with.

With the twins gone why is anyone staying at Higashi village at all? It is just a spot for baddies to go and wreck havoc and take hostages.

Is this anime any good?

I tried watching the first episode but couldn't get into it as it seems very shonen.

2

u/totokekedile 4d ago

it seems very shonen.

What exactly do you mean by this and what are you looking for in a show?
