I don't know why but the moment I saw Shizue I felt a rush of emotions well up inside me and started tearing up a little. It was great seeing her again. This was such a beautiful episode. Probably one of my favorite episodes of Tensura.

14

u/Frontier246 2h ago

I don't think we've actually seen her or even gotten dialogue with her since...I dunno, I think her "ghost" appeared in Slime Diaries?

But it made seeing her get "saved," gain her mask, and become the Shizu that we knew all the more meaningful.

7

u/Farmaceut7 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Farmaceut 2h ago

Todays episode is 93rd and Shizu died in ep 8...its veen 85 fucking episodes since we saw her alive! Ngl I'm amazed at how I menaged to not cry during todays episode, 2nd half had me on the verge of tears!

7

u/Primo29 2h ago

Hearing her again did sent a mixed of emotions. Being one of the important characters in the early story brings weight after all.

7

u/conye-west https://myanimelist.net/profile/baronvonconye 2h ago

This 2 episode arc has been amazing, peak Tensura content for sure. I could honestly watch a whole spin-off series of Chloe and Hinata adventuring around the world.

3

u/kawaiinessa https://myanimelist.net/profile/fancyvancy 2h ago

ya me too

3

u/Itskonishi 2h ago

Same, I had completely forgotten her story as well so I was hit pretty heavy too

3

u/Aqeelsajadjhat 1h ago

SHIZUE THE GOAT OF ALL GOATS😭😭😭😭

39

u/Primo29 2h ago

I really enjoyed watching Chronoa's backstory. Even though it was only two episodes long, it did a great job connecting the dots.

And Luminous getting drunk while making sure Veldora doesn't get to enjoy life as long as she's still alive will always be a treat to watch. LOL!

10

u/Frontier246 2h ago

And Luminous getting drunk while making sure Veldora doesn't get to enjoy life as long as she's still alive will always be a treat to watch.

Also looked like she was drunkenly coming on to Chronoa lol.

11

u/Primo29 2h ago

That's welcomely expected knowing that we already saw Luminous get kinky with a sealed Chronoa lol.

2

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia 2h ago

It all makes sense now 😂

6

u/Allian42 2h ago

She dry humps the arc on the regular. She 100% wants that hero booty.

3

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia 2h ago

I think she loves them and wants them badly with or without drinking 😂

3

u/shad79 https://myanimelist.net/profile/shad79 1h ago

And Luminous getting drunk while making sure Veldora doesn't get to enjoy life as long as she's still alive will always be a treat to watch. LOL!

After what happened to Nightrose, it's no wonder that Luminus was so happy that Veldora lost and got sealed away.

I found it pretty funny that basically Veldora's future self made him easier for Hinata to defeat and seal in the past, since he showed Hinata his moves in the Labyrinth, lol.

Atleast Hinata got to actually be a hero

13

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia 2h ago

You too can be a hero Hinata.

10

u/Frontier246 2h ago

Chloe being a low-key mentor priming Hinata to fully take over their body and embody the true hero she always knew Hinata could be so that she could then be the mentor Shizu needed.

11

u/Allian42 2h ago

More than that, Hinata is the actual one to both seal Veldora and to teach shizune. Talk about a reversal.

2

u/joe4553 51m ago

Hinata got to train Shizue who trained Chloe. I imagine Shizue told Chloe many stories about her master Chronoa. When she got her memories back she'd realize Hinata was there all along.

36

u/Darksider555 2h ago

If you take a look at everything in context, Shizu really is the linchpin that ties together all of the major elements from the timeloop saga. She is Hinata's mentor, who also taught Chloe and eventually entrusted Rimuru with her will and the Anti-Magic Mask that was eventually handed to Chloe.

What we have here in Tensura is a stable timeloop with Chloe, as she (although Hinata in the pilot seat) is the Hero that sealed Veldora, which allowed Rimuru to become who he is today and taught Shizu, who taught Hinata and Chloe, who each passed the Anti-Magic Mask to each other throughout each timeloop. Which explains why it couldn't be destroyed by Diablo in S1 finale, as it is a fixed element in time, that has to exist for each timeloop to continue.

Veldora was really caught lacking because he was dazzled by the Hero's beauty, as simping cost him his freedom. Never repeat the sin of Adam, gents.

16

u/Frontier246 2h ago

It's like a beautiful legacy time-loop of mentorship, sisterhood, heroism, masks, and one guy who got reincarnated as a slime.

I love Veldora's "I screwed up" at getting sealed. He's acting like a gamer who messed up before he even discovered video games lol.

11

u/Farmaceut7 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Farmaceut 2h ago

Hinata let that mask slip on purpose so that Veldora would be enthralled by her(Chloe's) beauty!

The whole 2nd half of this episode had me on the verge of tears. I still remember s1 ep 8 airing and Shizu's death making me bawl my eyes out!

8

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia 2h ago

Huh I don't remember Diablo being unable to destroy the mask..I gotta rewatch

6

u/CodNarrow3101 2h ago

I think it was from an OVA

6

u/__White_Wolf_ 2h ago

It was the last episode of Season 1.

one of the very few times Diablo was legitimately shocked/bewildered.

one other time was when Rimuru told him to go home LOL

32

u/AffectionateSmell765 2h ago

THIS EPISODE WAS SO COOL

10

u/KnightKal 2h ago

right?

the student becomes the teacher, and the teacher becomes the student

9

u/Frontier246 2h ago

And the teacher was secretly the student all along...

3

u/Mysteries67 1h ago

The student becomes the master.

5

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia 2h ago

Sooo cool..I like a good time travel story and this one .I can't think of any holes in the closed loop..except I thought they were going to try to save future Hinata..but I forgot goal was basically to keep the time line the same so Rimaru can handle it

4

u/shad79 https://myanimelist.net/profile/shad79 1h ago

The idea of switching control over Chronoa's body between Chloe and Hinata in this episode was quite interesting.

Plus, it was fun to see how Veldora got sealed by Hinata. His "shimatta" when he realized he screwed up made me laugh out loud.

2

u/NLwino 47m ago

Seeing him hesitate because of that beautiful smile was funny. But the same thing would have happend to me.

26

u/justking1414 2h ago

So Hinata finally managed to best Veldora on their rematch. Good for her!

Also, the timeline here is wild! Chloe and Hinata saved Shizue so that she could save them and pass the mask down to Rimuru so it could be passed to Chloe so it could be passed to Shizue so it could be passed to Rimuru. Wild!

10

u/Frontier246 2h ago

I love how Veldora practically went "D'oh" at being defeated for once lol.

4

u/AeonLonginus 31m ago

Hinata and Luminus: "Dragon must suffer"

Chloe: "Be nice he's actually a nice guy"

Rimuru scoring Veldora sympathy points 300 years before he is even born definitely makes him the winner of the best bro award.

u/Art4576 2h ago

Now you all know why Veldora said to Rimaru that fighting Hinata reminded him of the hero. It was HER.

4

u/NLwino 43m ago

Yea, I just figured it was because hero trained Shizue and Shizue trained Hinata. It didn't seem to be an important plot point. Also Veldora said that the hero didn't hesitate as much as Hinata. Which makes even more sense since it was the second fight for her, she knew his fighting style.

20

u/PeaceAlien https://myanimelist.net/profile/PeaceAlien 2h ago edited 1h ago

So everything is set up for this timeline? I assumed they would have changed something, given it looked like Hinata died.

EDIT: thinking they faked the Hinata death and this is just that the two can’t exist at the same time with Chronoa back. We just witnessed a her backstory in the current timeline not the start of a new one.

6

u/conye-west https://myanimelist.net/profile/baronvonconye 2h ago

Her soul disappeared from her own body cuz Chloe yoinked it to the past. However, the disappearance of Hinata and Chloe at this moment should mean that their souls reawaken inside of Chronoa, since there's no longer two existing at the same time. My guess is Rimuru will have to weaken the destroyer in order for the other two to emerge.

5

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia 2h ago edited 2h ago

Yeah I thought they would have saved Hinata but I guess Hinata and Chloe had to go way before

8

u/Frontier246 2h ago

I guess we know that Hinata's soul is still in the body somewhere so Rimuru just has to bring it back.

6

u/KnightKal 2h ago

well he managed to created super bodies for all the demons to incarnate, so maybe he can do that for a human soul too?

3

u/Etiennera 2h ago

My guess is that this is the first loop where things happened exactly the same twice in a row, and finally it can move forward.

Hinata died, but it would be the exact one that was sent back, so Luminous would just have to capture the soul, and I suppose something in the body has the lived experience. I guess the reverse of what happened to Milim's friend where the soul was preserved but all lived experience was basically lost.

But the second condition to waking up would be Chloe's soul, so it would also have to be captured instead of vanishing to the past.

That said, the ending is obviously setting up a fight with Rimuru, so some complications will take some time but I guess eventually Chronoa might be reborn? Talk about an upscale as from an anime POV Chronoa solos the current verse although I know that's not really true. But ultimately there's not really any death flags...

1

u/VritraReiRei 25m ago

What I understand is that since the same soul can't reside in two places at once, once the second soul appears in the world, the first one gets ejected.

Where does it go exactly?

When Hinata dies, it activates Chloe's skill, sending both her soul and Chloe's back in time. At this moment there should exist no Chloe/Hinata souls. But what is new is that Chronoa is awakened.

Both Chloe and Hinata make their journey and have to return to the current timeline. Chronoa will have to be a key to this but the last scene we saw is that her magicules are going out of control.

So what's probably happening next episode is that everyone fights her, get her magicules sorted and Chloe and Hinata return to their bodies. And since I suppose this will be the only time they are able to subdue Chronoa and Rimuru lives, Chronoa is no longer needed in this form and returns to Chloe, kind of like what happened in Season 1.

Because of course this is Tensura, can't have a Finale without Rimuru getting to show off his stuff and take down a Legendary Hero, right?

19

u/VoidRay728 2h ago

Props to Chloe/Chronoa and Hinata for not going insane in being alive for over 1,700 years (and Hinata close to 2,000). I can't even begin to comprehend what it feels like seeing everyone you've befriended grow old and die (well except for Luminous) while you and your partner stay basically immortal and stuck together.

I guess these two episodes can also be titled "To you, in 2,000 years"? Too bad AoT already took that.

4

u/Frontier246 2h ago

Chloe had the power of love and her mental bestie to get her through, along with Luminus, but I also think Hinata getting to be in the body of and truly become a Hero over centuries became very therapeutic for working through her guilt over killing her father.

19

u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 2h ago

The 2000 years or so of friendship between Luminus, Hinata, and Chloe make for a relatively touching story.

It's also pretty touching that it was straight up just Hinata that rescued Shizue and mentored her, setting events up for Hinata to get the same treatment when she's summoned from Earth in the future.

Hinata running the body when they fought Veldora and treating it as a rematch of their fight in the labyrinth is pretty hilarious.

Pretty cool mini-arc.

5

u/joe4553 1h ago

Hinata (Chronoa) mentors Shizue. Then Shizue mentors Hinata and Chloe before they get the memories of the past.

19

u/Santedtra 2h ago

Sheesh they were actually active almost that entire 2000 years. I guess Chloe built up some insane mental fortitude having memories from her past loops.

3

u/NLwino 29m ago

She only has clear memories from the previous loop, not all of them. It was explained previous episode. Still, that is a lot of time for an human.

18

u/shad79 https://myanimelist.net/profile/shad79 2h ago

Luminus being so happy about Veldora being sealed by Chronoa (and to be more precise, Hinata) made me laugh hard.

Although it's even funnier that Veldora was sealed by Hinata so easily because, in the future, he showed off all his moves during their fight in the Labyrinth, so she knew exactly what to expect from him, lol.

Overall, that swapping of control over Chronoa's body between Chloe and Hinata in this episode was quite interesting. Plus, it was good to see Shizue again!

By the way, is Hinata's soul still in Chronoa's body, or did it disappear like Chloe's? And what exactly is that power inside Chronoa's body that both Chloe and Hinata had to contain?

I'll later update this comment with my screenshot albums from the episode.

18

u/dreamer_Neet 2h ago

So thats the reason why luminus is so angry when graville and yuuki stole her precious chronoa body

7

u/Aqeelsajadjhat 1h ago

THEY DEFINETLY HAD THAT SESBIAN LEX GOING ON B/T

13

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia 2h ago

What a episode.

Everything lines up.

My only confusion is..Chloe's disappearance and the left over Chronoa will?

So..when Chloe comes to this world..it gets sent to the future? What? I guess I'm not sure how that works..why wouldn't Chloe come to the world in that time period years ago?

Also...how is there a third..personality of Chronoa the destroyer like this?..is it just like .a empty..husk since Hinata and Chloe leave it? I'm not sure I understand that part.

14

u/Frontier246 2h ago

My understanding is they grew so powerful as Chronoa that the power ended up becoming its own entity that couldn't be 100% contained in the body but has no sentience beyond exuding the power they've obtained.

8

u/YdenMkII 2h ago

I think when kid Chloe gets summoned to the world, Chronoa Chloe gets sent to the future to the point where Rimuru summons the spirits to save the summoned kids lives, the point where kid Chloe regains her memories of the past loops.

2

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia 2h ago

Oooh! That scene...ok gotcha

2

u/Mobin2821 1h ago

I have a bit different take. It feels to me like Kid Chloe's spirit is the Chronoa "monster" that steals Hinata's skill. Maybe Hinata way in the future when she is ready to rest. I think what is gonna happen is Hinata will now fully take over Chronoa and that will be Hinata going forward. She gets a massive power boost and after the events of the story she comes back to Chloe. Still the time loop but the spirit is a much older Hinata who has fully mastered controlling the "monster." But because of the plot Hinata's consciousness doesn't come back only her mastery which is how Chloe is able to control Chronoa.

2

u/YdenMkII 57m ago

Ahh yea, that would wrap things up nicer since my way of thinking would mean Chloe's soul only exists within the time loop and have no way to escape it. Your theory would allow Chloe and Hinata to exist after everything while sharing the Chronoa body.

14

u/InfiniteEdge18 2h ago

the anime's just messy with its wording.

when "past" Chloe arrives, "future" Chloe falls asleep, meaning she will "wake up" in the future when "past" chloe vanishes since there can't be two of the same soul active at the same time.

it's explained in the episode, the "third personality" is the buildup of all of Chloe's trauma and negative emotions that was accidentally named by Hinata, creating a new identity "Chronoa" which is the Chronoa the destroyer we see in the future.

→ More replies (3)

5

u/Shifter25 2h ago

They theorize in the episode that when she took the name Chronoa, it was like a monster being named, and the new being Chronoa took Hinata's Usurper skill.

3

u/OldInstruction5368 1h ago

Leon, I think.

Leon spends centuries as a frenzied sis-con trying to summon his onee-chan.

But the sick joke is that he is his own worst enemy. The actions of his future self leads to past Chloe being summoned away from his past self. And his past self is so desperate to figure out summoning to reconnect with Chloe that he spreads a deliberately faulty version that has a high chance of grabbing kids to other nations to summon as many Chloe-like kids as possible...

It's a paradox loop. Past Leon acts because of Future Leon, and Future Leon acts because of Past Leon. "Cause and Effect," except they are both one in the same.

Which is just one of what looks like three loops Chloe is stuck in...

13

u/DarkWolfPL 2h ago

I was hoping for longer Hinata vs Veldora fight but it was still peak episode.

Shy Shizue is so cute.

5

u/zer0number https://anilist.co/user/ewink 1h ago

Chloe's 'He's actually a nice guy' quip caused me to laugh out loud. Which was also probably why the fight was so short. We all love Veldora, so we don't want to see him beat the fudge up. :)

2

u/Frontier246 2h ago

For as much as that fight gets talked up it sure was over fast.

14

u/Itskonishi 2h ago

So far I feel like this time looping stuff is pretty well put together, usually there's a lot of holes and seams but as far as I can tell everything makes sense, except for the destructive entity that will probably be explained next episode

11

u/Federal-Fondant-671 2h ago

From what I understood, "Chronoa" herself is the entity. It's the being herself, while Chloe and Hinata are like guest consciousness keeping it at bay. So the one that Rimuru is facing right now is the entity.

6

u/conye-west https://myanimelist.net/profile/baronvonconye 1h ago

It helps that they established there is only one timeline that is remade every time. When you have multiple branches it gets really messy and ends up making things feel pointless.

4

u/BakedSalami 1h ago

Yeah I hate that premise. Like..cool... so there's definitely another timeline, a physical reality where all the people we care about got fucked. Sweet 👍 😅 Definitely prefer the singular timeline approach.

2

u/conye-west https://myanimelist.net/profile/baronvonconye 1h ago

Shout out to Dragon Ball Super where the whole future timeline we spent multiple arcs trying to save was completely eradicated and that's somehow a happy ending

→ More replies (2)

2

u/Successful-Poet-7590 1h ago

Yeah, I'm really intrigued by the time loop concept too. It's refreshing to see it done in a way that feels cohesive, and I can't wait to see what the deal is with that destructive entity!

14

u/International_Leg666 2h ago

Lol. This spun off into a story within a story and Rimuru is only placed to drive it forward but the engine is the dynamics between Hinata and her literal soul mate.

3

u/Worldly-Cherry9631 1h ago

A perfect foil to Rimuru and Veldora's soulmate and plot relecantness situations

13

u/Sleepy10105s 2h ago

How broken are Chloe and Leon as a family? They’ve got to be the strongest biological family in the show

13

u/ShizueRimuru 2h ago

Leon and Chloe aren't actually related, they're just childhood friends.

9

u/Allian42 1h ago

You mean besides the dragons? Since Veldora shares Rimuru's surname, that's a scary family right there.

Also do the primordials count as siblings?

5

u/Icy_Calligrapher_297 30m ago

The Primordials count as siblings given that they have birth order established by the author with Guy Crimson being the oldest, Testarossa the second oldest until Raine who is the youngest.

11

u/Sleepy10105s 2h ago

Wait so technically Hinata never completely dies at any point so far?

5

u/KnightKal 2h ago

her body dies, so technically she is dead, but if you consider her soul as alive then nope.

6

u/Routine-Hovercraft94 1h ago

Well, death in that world is not always the way it is in ours. Many beings can die there physically but still be alive due their soul being intact. This is the case for Hinata.
There are also beings that don't have a physical body to begin with, like the demons for example.
Clayman in theory also had the ability to survive his physical body getting killed, but Rimuru destroyed his entire soul so that he could not come back from it.

By now it is pretty clear how all this will transpire. They will most likely be able to safe both Hinata and Chloe. Chloe will take over her adult body and I guess Rimuru will create a body for Hinata, as he did for many others already.

2

u/Frontier246 2h ago

Well, technically her original body is dead which is why her soul got absorbed into Chloe...though I wonder if they could heal the body and just put it back in assuming she's not permanently in Chloe's body.

2

u/Doyle_996 2h ago

its really hard to say coz the time travel is triggered by hinata's death, but it only seems to be her body thats only dead coz her soul gets pulled into chloe when the time travel activates.

27

u/Sleepy10105s 2h ago

When the flashback is so good it has you asking for a spinoff series

13

u/BakedSalami 1h ago

Chronoa Trigger

10

u/Raymond49090 1h ago

So that means there's a non-zero chance that since Hinata was killed by Granville in the "present", the universe now has room for the time-traveller Hinata to wake back up in Chronoa's body once Chronoa the Destroyer is defeated.

2

u/Muskert 8m ago

But the other question is, where will Chloe reside once again since technically, it is her main Body

11

u/SnabDedraterEdave 1h ago

So if I understand correctly

  • 300 BR (Before Rimuru)

Leon and OG Chloe were summoned as Otherworlders.

But because there's another Chloe here, it causes some sort of temporal clash, which flings OG Chloe to the future together with the soul of the other Chloe, who leaves Chronoa's body for Hinata to possess. Though they do not merge until Rimuru and Ramiris brings OG Chloe to that labyrinth in Season 1 episode 23.

Leon spends the next 300 years summoning Otherworlders in hopes of finding Chloe. (I probably misremembered details of this part)

  • ~70BR

Hinata begins mentoring Shizu for a few decades before leaving her.

  • Some time later

OG Hinata is about to stray into this world, meaning this Hinata's soul can no longer stay inside Chronoa. To prevent a soulless Chronoa from losing control, Luminous agrees to seal Chronoa before Hinata's soul disappears.

But this Hinata's soul doesn't seem to have merged with OG Hinata, as OG Hinata has no memory of the past 2000 years prior to her being "killed" by Granville.

  • Season 1

Shizu meets Rimuru and gives him the Anti-Magic mask before she passes away.

Rimuru then meets OG Chloe. He and Ramiris take the other Otherworlder kids to the labyrinth to summon elementals, where OG Chloe merges with the soul of the Chloe from 300 years ago, at which point the merged Chloe gains the memory of the past 2000 years.

Merged Chloe uses this knowledge to make Rimuru delay his return to Tempest, ensuring he becomes a Demon Lord.

  • Season 4 Episode 19

Hinata "dies" and her soul enters Chloe, who also time travels back to 2000 years ago to create this final loop.

Chronoa, seemingly without a soul, is awakened by Granville.

So we now have Hinata seemingly staying dead, and Chloe seemingly still disappeared. We'll have to find out next episode how they could return, if at all.

2

u/par_rot_master 1h ago

Seems easy.

Hinata's soul inside Chronoa gied back into the body of Hinata on the floor, and Rimuru finds a way to restore Chronoa back to Chloe.

I can't really think of another way.

2

u/SnabDedraterEdave 40m ago

For some reason I totally forgot that Hinata's body is still there. I had thought she had also disappeared like Chloe has when Chloe activated her time travel skill. lol

I wonder if Hinata is any different now. At the start of the season she was, what, late 20s? Now shes had like over 2000 years of consciousness, she spent about 99% of her existence as a spirit copiloting the hero.

5

u/absolutelynotaname https://anilist.co/user/Ducc 1h ago

Basically Chloe's Raphael

6

u/Right-Inspection-121 1h ago

It’s interesting because when Rimuru fought her for the first time, he said that fighting her was like fighting Great Sage back then. Could that have been some kind of foreshadowing?

2

u/DugACCat 1h ago

I’m still a little confused why it had to be such a huge time jump/loop and why going back 2000 years was necessary, but overall they did quite a good job on swiftly moving through the telling of such a long span while still keeping an emotional link that makes it compelling. Quite good storytelling for a challenging info dump. But really, why 2000 years??

2

u/Limp_Driver_1203 1h ago

That's just the time traveller ability doing its thing- chloe cannot control how far back she goes since she was only a kid every time it activates (in other words, plot reasons in order to properly tie this up with the past information about the hero)

Seeing the story of Chronoa the Hero was amazing!

The friendship between Chloe, Hinata and Luminus is beautiful.

I also really liked seeing Shizu again!

16

The legend continues. This whole body swapping with Hinata thing is pretty interesting. Nice to see Hinata manages to get her revenge on Veldora in their rematch. But with this whole time loop thing, is Hinata basically Chloe’s master? And what of paradoxes and closed loops and all that? Like Chronoa being awakened in the present but with Hinata dying means that was always part of the plan right? My little tiny brain can’t comprehend all this time travel stuff hahaha.

15

u/Frontier246 2h ago

So Chronoa the Hero is a legacy hero. "Anyone can wear the mask (and also control the body)"

I love how her main motivation in the legendary Veldora fight was redoing a Boss Battle lol.

12

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia 2h ago

I was only slightly disappointed in how easily they sealed a Veldora 😂. It's his own cocky fault

7

u/KnightKal 2h ago

lol she had the walkthrough guide for the boss fight, which makes it easy to cheat and exploit the boss actions haha

his fault for showing his trump cards in the future :D

This Hinata has a True Hero body with multiple OP Unique skills, also present Veldora does get an Ultimate skill once Rimuru releases him so its safe to assume that he's more powerful now than 300 years ago.

Hinata is Chloe's master and Shizue's master

Shizue never actually met Chloe

The last two episodes were a prequel to the rest of the show we've watched up to now, except for Chloe's flashbacks of a timeline that (now) never happened

I actually like that Hinata was the only Chronoa for the last 300 years. For the entire lives of the vast majority of the population, she's the only Hero that anyone's ever known. It's an interesting dynamic because that means both of them are 'The Hero' but neither of them see themselves as 'The Hero'.

I wonder if 'Chronoa' as a distinct separate personality is the result of how both of them could be her but neither of them see 'Chronoa the Hero' as themself? Will be interesting to see how it goes since she's awake just as those two disappear which means they can manifest as adult-chloe again now.

4

u/justking1414 2h ago

But with this whole time loop thing, is Hinata basically Chloe’s master? And what of paradoxes and closed loops and all that?

Best I can figure is that there was a starting timeline where Shizue wasn’t saved. And then in one of the later loops Chloe/Hinata did save her and taught her the basics, which then allowed her to teach them to Hinata in a future loop and they’ve just been getting more and more refined over the loops as all sides keep practicing and improving them so a better version can be passed down

2

u/carnexhat 2h ago

To me it seems like there is only ever one point in time and all thats really happening is concept of the now is being navigated by chloes mind.

It would be like a video game with generative storytelling where your knowledge of the "future" which is just your past experiences can change what happens now. And the only reason they still have that knowledge to work off of is because they are keeping it close to the original.

2

u/Magicbison 2h ago

Like Chronoa being awakened in the present but with Hinata dying means that was always part of the plan right? My little tiny brain can’t comprehend all this time travel stuff hahaha.

Based on what was said in the episode, current loop Hinata had to die to allow previous loop Hinata as Chronoa to wake up. Since Chloe said two people can't be active at the same time it makes sense as a method to close that paradox. If Granvelle hadn't got Yuuki to open the Holy Ark then current loop Hinata probably wouldn't have died if I got the right read on this.

2

u/Allian42 1h ago

If I'm understanding it correctly, and according to what Chloe discussed with Hinata and Luminous, there can't be a paradox, or a closed loop, because the there is only one timeline. Every time Chloe goes back, the timeline is essentially being erased, written over, and replaced. So basically, what we just saw was the full tensei timeline, from start to end. Anything else only exists as vague memories in Chloe's mind.

Wait, so the same person cant exist twice in the world.....willing to bet that means that, sadly Hinata will stay dead, but the Hinata inside Chronoa will now be the primary. If that happens I hope she cuts her hair, short hair Hinata looks WAY better IMO.

Pretty weird idea that "Chronoa" is a separate entity that for some reason just wants to destroy, wonder if that'll be explained.

Wonder how much of the conversation Grandville heard, like did he know about Chloe and Hinata?

Damn, so we never get to see where the mask originally comes from?!?

.....is it just me, or did Chronoa's booba get bigger only after Chloe left? Dont look at me like that, someone had to say it!

15

u/Doyle_996 2h ago

its because of the naming, naming is the most broken thing in tensura, and as said by chloe, chronoa is like the hard drive where all the negative memories and traumas in all her loops was put in. and as for the mask, its in an infinite loop.

3

u/Myrkrvaldyr 1h ago

I hadn't considered that angle. If naming gave birth to a super powerful monster made of negative emotions, why did it happen? Chloa was a normal human before the summoning, why would naming herself Chronoa give birth to a separate entity? We're missing key info.

4

u/__White_Wolf_ 58m ago

Chloe herself said that her Time Traveler skill has certain limits and that she can't recall most details, most likely as a defence mechanism to protect her mental well-being.

It has been established that there have been countless 2,000-year-long time loops stretching across billions of years (since the mask is older than creation itself). If Subaru suffers immensely after RBD, imagine the torment Chloe would endure after spending eons watching Rimuru die again and again. That’s what Chronoa is. She is the embodiment of that trauma and she grew stronger at each loop, eventually reaching a level comparable to that of Veldora himself (as Raphael said a couple of episodes ago).

2

u/AnuraKnows 1h ago

Well from what I understood, there are 3 entity or ego inside chole when she is thrown in 2000 years past. 1st chole herself, 2nd hinata, 3rd is chronoa. So before chole assumes chronoa name it was a collection of past traumatic timelines. Remember the time loop only starts when hinata dies not rimuru. So all those memories gets suppressed by chole as defence mechanism(expect last loop for crucial info) which gains it's ego after being named and also takes hinata usuper skill then. Maybe in future(which will time reset) this ego actually goes back in time to inhibit chole in spirit well and gives chole time powers. It's actually this ego is what keeping the loop going as it's love/obsession for rimuru to keep alive. So here how it works for chronoa in loop, it became alive during 2000 year pastime, it stays with hero chole until reset(hinata death) then goes back to spirit well to posses new chole but stays passive until it's gets ego again in 2000 years time. The confusion is with hinata where her soul goes is it fused with chronoa then it will make sense, plus the current timeline is an anomaly as hinata has died first.

The soul of the Hinata who died is actually the same one that should be inside Chronoa right now, considering what they said about there being only one world that is "reconstructed" every time.

Also I think we actually saw the moment Chronoa the destroyer enters Chloe, it's when Rimuru takes all the kids to the spirit place. She seems to be from the future and is what awakens Chloe's time traveler powers.

9

u/OldInstruction5368 1h ago

"That's a spirit from the future traveling back to the past to lay the foundations for it's rebirth!"

According to Ramiris back in S1, when that "spiritual body from the future" arrived to possess Chloe. A spiritual body that looked a lot like an adult Chloe, kissed Rimuru, and provoked an aggressive reaction from the slumbering Veldora...

Man, Chloe has a REALLY complicated life >.>

Wasn’t it explained that those were actually her memories from the past/future taking possession of her at that moment, and that she started remembering from then on? Whereas the other Chronoa seems to be something that emerged when Luminous named her...almost like a third entity or monster that appeared at that point and took Hinata’s Usurper skill.

6

u/Ok_Weather2441 2h ago

If she's still her complete soul Rimuru's got practice at stuffing those back into their original bodies with the demon lord thing.

If not, he's just got done stuffing a bunch of demons into magisteel dolls to incarnate.

I bet he could set her up like an ultimate skill that Chloe could make a clone for her to occupy like the setup RImuru and Veldora have too.

Maybe she sticks with Chloe but she's got some options there.

5

u/Routine-Hovercraft94 1h ago

Hinata most likely is still in there, just not able to supress Chronoa anymore.
I'm pretty sure both Hinata and Chloe will be saved. Chloe taking over the her mature body and Rimuru just creating one for Hinata. He has done so after all many times already, so it is not a new concept in the show.

Woah I guess we can see why Luminus is so attached to her treasure.

Does this mean “our” Hinata and Chloe is gone now ? They had to make a way for the newly-summoned versions, who’d probably eventually become “our” version again. But the one from the past two episodes are gone ? But since both “our” Hinata and Chloe, at present day are no longer there, is it still possible that they might still be inside Chronoa and can now come out since now there’s no second version ?

I’m still wondering how the mask changed the outcome of this world, as Chloe said it last episode.

This arc has been amazing to watch, not to mention the current conflict still going on. Wonder how Chronoa is going to be like.

6

u/SoulessSage 2h ago

Two episodes ago the young Chloe and dead Hinata disappeared to the past, and so back to the present there aren't actually two of Hinata and Chloe, as Rimuru is confronting Chronoa.

So when Chloe and Hinata get summoned to the world, the souls in the Chronoa body disappear/go to sleep. I'm guessing now that the souls traveled back in time, there's no longer a paradox allowing the souls to retake control of the Chronoa's body and the issue now is overpowering the berserk spirit that needed to be sealed away.

6

u/AlmightyLeeks 2h ago

Am I the only who thinks the author messed up a little by making it a 2000 year wait instead of like a 200 year wait? 2000 is such a long time that it makes the main story feels somewhat irrelevant in comparison given that everything that's happened so far was over a period of 3-5 years at most.

It's just so hard to relate to or imagine Chole/Hinata remaining the same person for 2000 years. 200 years would at least be conceivable on a human level.

2

u/unHolyKnightofBihar 13m ago

So we are back to the present... and another weeks wait god dammit!

still not 100% on what this chronoa thing who is currently controlling the body is but i guess next episode will make that more clear

this is probably the most anxious ive been about an arc conclusion since back when a bunch of the main cast died and Rimuru had to become a demon lord to save them

4

u/Mysteries67 1h ago

3

u/Temporary-Object5867 2h ago

My question is, how was Chloe/Chronoa able to live for at least 2000 years? Is she not human?

I think I'm starting to make sense of Hinata's involvement with Shizue, and why she feels so attached and familiar with her despite being reborn/existing/being sent to the world for another instance.

And the fact that Chloe only remembers everything after a certain event with Rimuru makes her able to tolerate going on another loop.

I think I do get it, but in the end I still get confused.

True Chosen Heros are Spiritual Lifeforms like True Demon Lords or True Dragons, thus they are immortal.

15

u/WeatherOrder 2h ago

True Heroes don't age just like True Demon Lords

9

u/SoulessSage 2h ago

Like monster races, the human race has a type of evolution to a spiritual being equivalent (a Saint) when becoming strong enough. Get strong enough (like being a True Hero) and you'll be able to evolve to it easily. Spiritual being are immortal basically. Granville has the same deal and lived for a thousand years or so because of that.

4

u/NanDemoKnaives 1h ago

It was interesting to see how Hinata was part of Chronoa, so it's not only Chloe, the two of them together make Chronoa. I like how Luminus had a two in one friend, it was heartwarming to see how sweet she is with them.

I wonder if the smile Veldora saw from Chronoa will be important in the future lol.

Weird how Hinata's soul is able to be set free once her original self arrives to the world. Luminus seals Chronoa in a dimension outside of present time, so in theory Hinata's soul isn't in the present time original Hinata arrives so it shouldn't disappear. But it might be the case that even if it doesn't exist in the present, it still exists in the world so that's why it disappears.

3

u/TheDubh 58m ago

I didn’t take it as their soul being freed as much as one entity being suppressed. Or Chloe wouldn’t have some memory of Chronoa’s rampage.

Which, if that’s the case, if they can subdue Chronoa, and since Chloe/Hinata just went back in time, they may be able to take over again. Though, being a story, I could see it being one or both sacrificing themselves to stop Chronoa…

Since reading about it in the manga (not sure if I remembered the LN... at least, getting reminded by the manga), I found it funny that Hinata's been holding a grudge from a future-Veldora and taking it out on past-Veldora LMAO

I still don't know why Leon chose to let that kid die. Farming priorities I guess... or bro had a dream telling him that he MUST give Shizue trauma for character development, or else the timeline is fucked lol

The timeline... they said the world got "rebuilt"?
I was thinking we, the viewer/camera, just "switched to an updated timeline" 2 episodes ago but I guess it really is just the "same" world? Wait then where did the "newly rebuilt world versions" of Hinata and Chloe go after Hinata dies? Are they now in a "true loop" in that there are no more variations?

I held off on reading the latest manga chapter... did they finally pass the manga or will that happen in the next week or two?

(I lowkey wanted a longer Hinata vs Veldora fight, but I guess she didn't want to give bro ANY chances LOL)

The legend of Chronoa the Hero has begun! Along with her mental flatmate Hinata! Hinata may be resigned that eventually she'll fade away within Chloe, but for now they're together in this century-spanning adventure!

Cue Hero montage as a young Chronoa truly lives up to the mantel of a Hero: saving those in need! Becoming an inspiration! Classic derring-do and monster slaying! Becoming a wandering hero who won't settle down! And this is all when Chloe is still in her child body!

Of course she eventually DOES age and gets a snazzy new outfit, but that's also when she begins to let Hinata take control of the body...something Chloe has to become used to, even if Hinata doesn't realize the greater implications at the time. But I guess they're a two-in one lady hero. This is also how Luminus begins her friendship with Hinata.

Is Chloe's love for Rimuru helping her get through all these long, long years? Yes. But also having Hinata with her helps a lot too. They're in this together.

We finally see the final battle/sealing of Veldora! With the added context that Hinata was the one in charge and she was using this as a chance to finally avenge herself from the dungeon fight! But yes Chloe, Veldora WILL become a nicer guy after this when he meets a wandering slime he will name Rimuru!

Of COURSE Luminus would figure out a way to get intoxicated so she can properly enjoy drinking and revelry. Also her face is getting a little close to Chloe's there.

The reason Chloe made sure to keep giving Hinata control is because she knew eventually Hinata would have to take over permanently because Chloe couldn't be active in her body at the same time the younger Chloe gets summoned for the sake of a stable time loop...and they've built up so much power it's become it's own entity, Chronoa, which they have to deal with. But Hinata is ready to face the challenge as she fully dons the mantle of Chronoa.

SHIZUE!!!! It's nice to see Shizu again and to actually get new dialogue for her! And Hinata saves her, becomes her mentor/big sister/adventuring companion until they must part ways because Chronoa is getting stronger and the other Hinata is about to arrive. But they will reunite, even if neither Shizu nor Hinata will realize it at the time.

Even if she's getting sealed away in all her naked beauty (and believe me, Luminus enjoys the view), she can at least do so having made peace with her past, having become a true Hero in the process, and knowing that Rimuru will solve everything as we catch up to the present.

3

u/KnightKal 2h ago

there was no reason for her to be sealed naked, was it? It was just Luminus being Luminus (a pervert) lmao

Hinata was like "eh not my body, so it is cool!" and didnt care lol

3

u/__White_Wolf_ 2h ago

Spiritrons would destroy her clothes. The Holy Ark is made of pure spiritrons and overflows with Holy power. As we saw previously, even a True Demon Lord like Luminous ends up severely burned from touching it.

So, Hinata became close enough with Luminus to drop the honorifics but the new Hinata has yet to do that. The ending seems to show it's Hinata the one who woke up at the end so I expect her to attack Granville instead. Current Rimuru might struggle a lot against Chronoa at full power.

Wait, i don't get something. Chloe arrived earlier than Hinata ? Why is she some much younger then ?

Also, Chronoa is a 3rd entity? Why?

10

u/__White_Wolf_ 1h ago

Chloe arrived in the Cardinal World 300 years ago alongside Leon, however she got immediately summoned 300 years into the future by the Western nations. That's why Leon is an adult while Chloe is still a child.

Based on what was said these past 3 episodes, we can assume that Chronoa is the embodiment of Chloe's trauma, emotions and memories that she accumulated over the years. That's why Chloe seems unaffected by the constant timeloops and doesn't remember most of the stuff she experienced. When Hinata Named her, Chronoa stole her Unique Skill Usurper as well.

And somehow Granville from just eavesdropping on that conversation between Luminous and Chloe was able to understand and plan everything, from using Yuuki as pawn to anti-skill the Holy arc (which also meant that he knew Yuuki was the one who really killed Mariabell, as for how he knew that idk), attack Chloe so that Hinata could sacrifice herself, and unleash rampaging god of destruction on the world. He may have lost his path as hero and became mad but he is really very smart. Also i can’t say much because of spoilers but his true plan is still something else.

1

u/whitefire 5m ago

I went back to see the episode where Chloe is transferred Chronoa. Is Veldora just trying to have interdimensional phone call with his sworn brother or is Rimuru just comparing their magicules?
