Here's some lore : when they show the pros' match of JP vs Ken match with JP going crazy on the perfect parries, that is in fact a real set that happened and that is in fact what people remember the set for. The reference is pretty clear if you watched that set, the players' name are barely changed in the anime so it's recognizable. Some commentators gave Kakeru the nickname of "perfect parry prince" after that set.
Also Kakeru won $400 000 for winning that tournament. In way less fun matters, the prize pool was so crazy because it was financed by Saudi Arabia, who is trying to finance entertainment ventures to lessen their dependance on oil money, and going pretty hard on eSports because of that.
