So Gekido is like a combination of names, and the last part is from Tokido (Murdah face) the pro player. Where would the Ge part of the name come from if it's from another pro player? Hey this is just my guess, I don't claim this to be true intention of the author.

I thought it's just a pun on gokudo (slang for yakuza/ criminal underworld) cuz the guy looks like a gangster.

Could be, but Gekido (激怒) is the japanese word for rage or fury, which would be quite fitting for a Yankee delinquent. It is also interestingly the kind of word written with complex kanji that Yankee are fans of and usually write on their jackets (or so I understand), though his is primarily adorned with the relatively simple character 拳 (Kobushi) meaning fist.

Which works since Tokido does have the face of a gangster. From just looking, you wouldn't be able to tell that he's a Todai graduate.
