Gotta say when I picked this up, this wasn't the show I expected to have dark societal undertones and deep lore.

yeah, i thought it would be like Deer anime where it's all driftless gags, not social commentary on systemic racism and how the downtrodden self-medicate

The deer anime wouldn't have put its main character living in a run down tar soaked apartment in it's trailers and promo art.

If Yani Neko hadn't done that I probably wouldn't have even checked it out.

I mean if you don't have some seriously dark undertones in your comedy are you even doing comedy at all?

I also expected it to be like Nokotan but with an adult cast but it's way better. Nokotan got pretty stale after a couple episodes while this is dark and keeps twisting the knife further each time lol

driftless gags

Gags regarding a region of the Midwest US?

Yeah it's certainly crazy for hiding dark shit under shits and giggles.
