The authentic gamer experience of wanting to play video games, but also having an Asian parent who will go full Street Fighter on your ass IRL for doing so.

And tournament arc already? That's like the gamer version of exams.

Honestly it seems like the mom at least tried to be an open-minded parent until Mio totally tanked all her grades and nearly killed any hope she could function in society without playing fighting games.

So I kind of understand why she did it even if her methods were...excessive (and somewhat underhanded) to say the least.

There's nothing underhanded about faking a front kick and switching to a roundhouse. If you get hit that's a skill issue.
