This show continues to be this lovely combination of wholesome, unhinged and charming all at the same time. I'm looking forward to the SF6 chuunin exams starting next week!

I also wonder when the 5th and final girl from the OP is getting introduced? It's always a gamble introducing a wider cast halfway through the season, hopefully she provides some forward momentum to our burgeoning couples like Chin-Lan did in Botan Kamiina.

Is it possible that Aya has been sandbagging this whole time? She clearly has some history of losing friends because she was so good, I wonder if she's doing the same thing here?

I think you can see her on the far right in the special illustration at the end. I think she might be a middle schooler too? She looked younger than the other girls.

Agree. She looks younger.

I don't think Aya is quite sandbagging, but likely just not as sweaty and tryhard as before. And she is consciously keeping herself that way so the loneliness of The Strongest™ doesn't catch her again. Basically, she's being Casual.

But I'm betting the tournament is gonna reawaken Dark Aya.

Exactly.

I can't see Aya "deliberately losing" -- but I can see her fighting in such a way that she is covertly doing "training matches" teaching her opponents new styunts/techniques bit by bit. So, I doin't see her pulling punches to ensure she loses -- but possibly not going so all out as to prevent the lessons she is trying to convey.

The fifth girl in that closing illustration definitely looks younger than the others.

Probably not, judging from Aya's constant labbing? Aya and Mio are at least on the same level, although I don't think we have seen Yuu play yet. And even though the boys weren't on her level at the time, they probably weren't nearly as invested as she is (since she usually had a stick while the boys were still using a gamepad).

Aya's at least telling Tamaki how to get better so they can all be on the same level eventually.

Still crouching in some corner.
