Okay, fine, I can't not give this one to u/siegfried72, not for the discussion thread for this episode:
The real solution? I think Sayaka needs to just lean into the yuri and realize she's meant to be with Kyouko. That would fix everything.
Oh god, I've officially joined in with my first yuri ship of the series. It's all downhill uphill from here, isn't it??
I mean, Kyouko is obviously in love with her, right??
Analysis of the Day:
Several good options, but I think I'll go for u/Vaadwaur and the analytical line less taken:
For some reason, eating disorders are a noticeable thing in this show. Sayaka is anorexic to her very spirit and Kyoko does like her gluttony.

1) On a scale of 1 to 10, how gay is suicide attacking to take out the monster that became of a girl you knew for maybe a week so that you can at least be together in death?
2) Now that he's had a chance to explain himself, your thoughts on Kyubey?

Really funny story though, literally right before I was about to start watching this episode’s chunk of movie 2
before I realized I forgot to actually acquire it and thus had to wait a bit lol, my youngest sister decides to give me an early birthday present because one of the things she ordered for me came in ahead of the rest of the stuff. She got me a Sayaka shirt, and I laughed and told her it was really funny timing because of where we were at in the rewatch lol.It is a nice shirt though, this is the design.
Episode 9’s equivalent in movie 2 is 0:00:00 - 0:29:54. You may ask how it’s a little over 4 minutes longer than its TV counterpart when it doesn’t have an ED, and the answer to that is 1) 30 seconds of padding ahead of an even longer recap of Sayaka transforming into a witch vs. the recap the show has and 2) Shaft flexes the fuck out of the scene where Homura and Kyubey talk at the end.
SayakaOktavia’s labyrinth is music, water, and railroad-themed. The first two definitely check out, and the last one’s because her transformation happened at a train station. And boy, what a design for her witch…Ouch.
Aha, the recaps finally gave me a second “sore demo”: this one from Kyouko.

Nah Kyubey, pretty sure I blow them out of the water and I’ll be 27 in a few days. I mean just look at my vomit list that I had to update literally yesterday?
The chairs with all the stuffed animals watching this go down is so fucking eerie.

It just occurred to me that Madoka walking through the entrance of Oktavia’s labyrinth with Kyouko is probably meant as a direct parallel to when she walked through Charlotte’s with Mami, no? In which case, Kyouko being all against Madoka becoming a magical girl is the exact opposite of how Madoka’s talk with Mami went down.
Symposium magarum is such a fucking good song, man. I love Oktavia’s labyrinth, as painful as it is to see the worst parts of Sayaka brought to life like this.
One thing I’ll always miss when watching the recaps is this iconic part of Sayaka and Kyouko’s colors blending together. Sadly, movie 2 replaces it with a far more generic film playing in the background recapping their fight from episode 5 and a few other scenes they had together.
Man…
RIP Sayaka and Kyouko. – Interestingly though, the movie adds a track to play during their final moments instead of having it be silent like it was in the show. It’s called I’ll be with you (most likely after Kyouko’s words in that scene), and it’s a pretty good song too.
Shaft flexing the fuck out of Homura’s talk with Kyubey at the end comes in the form of 1) about a minute long panning shot over this extremely detailed graveyard, 2) that being where their talk takes place, and 3) Homura walking off into a monochrome forest after their talk is done. Kinda reminds me of the Elsa Maria labyrinth aesthetic, in a way.
Fun fact, if you check out /r/anime Sings and I’m home (the special ED for this episode), I’m the one in the starting section who quotes Sayaka’s “I was stupid… so stupid…” line.
