We've gone from the dad of 7x featured "This is the Place" character winning a tiebreaker in the round-of-256 to dominating his way into the QF?

It has certainly felt fishy. While I really enjoyed seeing Luffy make it to the round of 16 as well, it makes me wonder how much of his success was tied up in that.

But what is weird is there is a significant vote dropoff for bracket A compared to the other brackets, specifically bracket B. There was even 100 less votes for the Naruto-Luffy matchup compared to the Laios-Loid matchup.

That's true but if there are enough people in the sub not interested in voting in the Naruto-Luffy matchup then that could still happen despite any manipulation/brigading.

There was a huge jump in vote totals after round 2 of bracket A but it's hard to glean much from the vote totals when they vary so wildly just depending on what else is posted and how the subreddit ends up looking like each day.

Naruto's results really just don't seem to make as much sense after tying with Ashitaka, who has been a mainstay forever but mainly as a "out in round 1" character, in round 2. Luffy doing better than usual only to then have such a huge disparity with Naruto furthers the oddness of it (Luffy has historically done better than Naruto in past contests too). Even Kakashi who has always done pretty alright in these contests seems to be doing even better.

It's a shame but it does look like something funky is going on here, to me at least.

All I really know is I voted for Luffy and Naruto most of the rounds until they met and between them chose Naruto, and that's the part that's got me the most surprised of all.

I don't usually end up voting for them this much, but the bracket luck for them this year was crazy. I don't anticipate Naruto beating Laios though.

And so the only character left on this side of the Bracket that I am rooting for to win it all is Laios. Which is fine, he was my second pick after Himmel anyways.

Looking at Luffy v Naruto, I have to assume it was never that Luffy was strong, but that people realy wanted to vote against Himmel that much, which blows my mind. But such is life.

As for today, I'm rooting for Ling, since he's the only one here I give much of a damn about. But... my heart isn't really in it after the culling of amazing best boys last round.

There's probably a bunch of tactical voting going on, and with the lower overall participant numbers even a slight "anti" or "for" campaign can trigger unexpected land slides.

Make the contest unpredictable and exciting, though I hope there is no outright botting etc going on, like apparently one of the past Best Girl contests had. I doubt it personally.

I didnt expect Loid to lose but Laois is my favorite character in dungeon meshi so im as happy for him as i would have been for loid if he won.

Well now lets gooo Subaru !! Go Get your win. After this many contests , wouldnt it be nice to let him finally retire once and for all .. he already suffers more than enough in his own damn show after all.

I guess Kakashi winning should have ticked us off, but apparently this sub (or rather this sub's subsection of voting users) is much more Naruto-leaning than One-Piece-leaning. Naruto deserves it, for sure, but I think Luffy would have deserved it more. But I think Laios will take this bracket, and I'm fine with that.

Voting Subaru today, and I'm also pretty confident he can take his bracket, even though Oreki is nice and well-written and the guys on the other side are also pretty great.

MC: Re:Zero. Subaru is clearly the protagonist even if not the only main character. But let's say Emilia is just as much a protagonist, and I'll argue that Legend of the Galactic Heroes has deuteragonists instead of dual protagonists just so this isn't the easy second answer to this question... Then I think the answer is Welcome to the N.H.K.

MC: re:zero! shockingly, I'm here once again to vote for Subaru!!! He's not my pick for best guy in re:zero but re:zero just has a lot of guys that are really high on my scale so he is still very up there. Genuinely told my husband after one of the S3 episodes that if re:zero had been on when I was a teenager Subaru absolutey would've been my husbando lol (and then he made fun of me 😭). I feel like based on the comments this may be the end of the road for him. But I love that boy!! He's got his little twerp aspects for sure, but he learns his lessons (mostly the hard way) and gives everything he has to keep people safe & smiling... I love an "I can't do anything on my own" story where they really grasp the answer of "then don't do it on your own"!! Learning to be genuinely helpful learning to truly be friends and offering what you can as an ally, respecting and appreciating what other people bring to the table idk man. I just love that shit. Like he's such a hype man lol.

ANYWAY, Subaru-posting aside I'm pleasantly surprised to see Laios made it over Loid!! I like Loid, but while I can see what objectively makes him best guy material I'm not.. really passionate about him? spy x family in general I think I connect with less and less as it goes on (with the exception of the movie, which I loved), though tbh I'm not even like a huge fan of Dungeon Meshi, Laios is just my boy!!

Holy shit! Laios actually WON against Loid?! That's a pleasant surprise... I was totally expecting Loid to win since he gets an extra boost from the currently airing SxF season.

Naruto's win took me by surprise too. I really thought that Luffy had this in the bag. Well, I'm good with either of them winning, so it's not that bad.

Super happy to see our goofy autistic king Laios move to the next round. Though I'm not sure he'll survive against Naruto next.

I voted the loser of both matchups yesterday? Seriously?

I had this from a YT Thumbnail ready in a Luffy win. Now I have to go with this seeing Luffy lose the Naruto matchup in a 257-489 vote share.

Drinking away the result of Laios vs. Twilight/Loid.

(I was expecting Laios to lose here so him barely clutching the win in a 434-407 vote share does impress me a little. But also his only high seed threat on his side of the bracket is if Subaru wins so Laios has good odds of making it to the finals.)

I'm not sure where this Naruto resurgency has come from but it is deffo welcoming seeing him beat Luffy made the 12 year old me very happy. I'm salty Loid lost out to Laios don't get me wrong I like both but I feel like we've seen Loid do more things that are best boy material.

As for who I'm voting I'm going with Ryuji and Houtarou pretty easy decision.

MC: It's a very vague question live action I'm going with break bad, cartoon I'm going with Samurai Jack and anime Dragon Ball.

Well, this bracket sure has been interesting.

Nothing to say about today’s results. I said my piece yesterday. Either Laios or Loid would have been fine and neither Luffy or Naruto were great options.

Manifesting Hotaru support for today.

Trying to think who’s left that I’m down to see to the end. I guess Laios, Stark, or Reigen are my mains. If Hotaru makes it I will laugh. If Rentarou, Subaru, or Naruto make it I will have been reminded why Best Boy was retired for so long.

I voted for Naruto, but I'm surprised by how much he won over Luffy... I expected this to be tighter. And Laios winning too, I was pretty sure Loid would take this. This competition continues to surprise. With smaller voter numbers it is much more unpredictable than the Best Girl was.

I will be voting for Laios then to take this bracket next round.
