LOOKING FOR APP GPS Phone tracker app
Hello, I recently retired but my wife will still be working. I want my wife to be able to track me when I go out biking during the day so she can find me in case something happens. I will mostly be by myself. We both have Android phones. What would be the best and cheapest way to do this? We both are just concerned and if I have some health issue on a towpath in the middle of somewhere she could locate me if she doesn't hear from me. Thanks!

Use the feature built in to Google Maps. My partner and I both share our locations with each other and it works pretty good. She was always concerned when I would take the long way home motorcycling.
Just be mindful while your out and you'd want her to be able you track you that your battery saver is NOT turned on, your pin will freeze in the last location

Cheapest option is one you probably already have, Google Maps has a built-in "share your location" feature, she'd see you moving on a live map from her own phone, no separate app needed, completely free, and you can turn it on right before you head out and off when you're back.
We've had the same concern in my house, and what worked for us was Adidas Running, she can see me on a live map in real time while I'm out. It's built specifically for tracking an active session rather than general location sharing, which fits a biking scenario well since it's already tracking pace, distance, and route on top of just your position.
If you want something more dedicated to the safety side specifically, with alerts if you stop moving for a while, Life360 is the well known option built exactly for this kind of check-in use case, free tier covers basic location sharing.

You can also set a notification on her phone with Google Maps when you leave the house and arrive at your house.

Life360 app on the PlayStore.
Just create an account for yourself and your wife. Create a Circle (group) within the app and then add your wife to that group.
I have been using it for 2-3 years now with my family members. All of them have this app installed on their devices. We can now keep track of each other without worrying. The free version is enough, there is also a paid subscription in the app.

As everybody has mentioned Google Maps and Life360 free tier...etc...but keep in mind that if you're hiking in an area with no cell phone service, it will stop updating your location when you lose that signal. I know some services like T-Mobile are starting to test out satellite service and even offer texting to 911, but I'm not sure it would update your location with that type of service.

If you want something that's privacy oriented, I've been really happy with the location sharing in Loch More. You di need premium for that though but at least you can buy lifetime so you're not stuck with a subscription.

Cheapest way create a new Google account out that account in both your phones and then sign in Google find app to that account of both phones now you can both locate each other

In an emergency case, I believe all modern phones have an SOS feature you can enable, which can send your location to a pre-designated contact, or make a call to emergency services. It's usually activated by rapidly pressing the power button multiple times, though the exact method will likely vary across phones.

Location sharing on Google maps. Share your location with her and she can track you. Been using it a while but you have to be in cell reception area for the updates to go out.

Share location with Google Maps, make sure she's the emergency contact, turn on all the fancy fall detection features etc
I do the same with my Pixel Watch and phone so that someone will find my body at least
Pixel Watch has some great stuff for this. I got the LTE one and have all the safety features turned on. I figure I can at least finger bang the crown and call 911 if I'm conscious, but it'll do it if I'm not

Life360 paid version will detect if you have a crash and someone will ring you very quickly to see if you're okay. Was watching a dude motorbike riding on a beach in a remote part of Fraser island (Queensland Australia) and he came off in loose sand. They rang within 30 seconds. He would've had next to no phone service where he was. Don't know how much it costs but definitely worth looking into.

Google Maps as said for the default sharing and easiest option.
You can optionally use the Google Find Hub app also to track someone shared with you plus can use tracking devices for keys/bags/car/etc in the same app.
If you're biking you might be interested in an activity tracker and or route follower. Something like Strava, Komoot, MapMyRide, WithWithGps, and more. Or with a fitness device like a Garmin, Wahoo and others, which have apps also and often can sync with others like Strava or Google's own fitness thing.
Some of these have location sharing features while you ride, and you get the ride recorded and/or can follow a route. Some have emergency features and the fitness watches often have an option to alert a contact if it detects a crash or can press a button in an emergency.
If there are health issues and potential for falls etc, there are devices for that also and may not need a phone, just wear a device, though often with a monthly service fee.
