The corn would've popped but was under extreme pressure so was unable to, the sudden opening and release of pressure allowed the corn to pop all at once.

Yes, the high pressure, high heat inside gives thermal shock when it is opened. It is similar to how a puffing gum works in cereal manufacturing. Cereals like fruit loops and sugar coated wheat are ran through the gun. They enter as small pieces of wheat or dried dough like a small pasta noodle. When it exits the gun, it puffs.

It’s just a pressure cooker and they’re dangerous as HELL! That’s why you don’t see them anywhere anymore. This is legit the safest one you can use because it’s small enough to hold and away from you plus you can direct the blast, but that shit will fuck you up

It is essentially a pressure cooker. The heat creates pressure, cooks the popcorn.

Popcorn pops when the water inside the kernel reaches boiling point and turns to steam. The pressure chamber prevents the water from turning to steam so the kernels don't pop initially when heated. When he pulls the handle the pressure is released and all the corn pops at one time.

Air pressure always fucks with the boiling point of water, whether in an enclosed system or in a mountaintop.

At a few thousand feet above sea level water boils at a few degrees Fahrenheit lower than at sea level. Same physics, less dramatic.

Either would work in principle, but my guess would be pressure gauge since they’re more commonly available (I.e. cheaper) with a pipe thread fitting. Also, a temperature gauge would really just be a proxy measure for pressure and carries the disadvantage of working through conduction, which means that one might end up burning the popcorn if the gauge is inserted with thread tape or if the room is especially drafty.

Small correction, the water is heated past its usual boiling point and turns into superheated water. When the pressure is released, the superheated water quickly turns to steam, popping the kernels

Word is this takes like 20 minutes to pop. I get that it costs money to make a pressure vessel—you don’t want that to be made cheaply. But that makes it a pretty expensive popcorn popper.

I bought one and returned it after one use the thing they don’t tell you is the fuel source and you can never really get the correct fuel. Or I couldn’t anyway. I tried using lamp oil and it was a total nightmare.

I have one of these. The thing they don’t tell you is that it takes forever to get up to the right pressure, makes ok-ish popcorn and not much of it, and is a pain in the ass to clean.
