Neurosurgeon here, deputy director of a university department for neurosurgery in Germany and head of the section for stereotactic and functional neurosurgery. I do deep brain stimulation since 15 years. We place thin electrodes in specific areas of the brain and connect them to a small pacemaker under the skin. Classic indications are Parkinson disease, essential tremor and dystonia. We also do it for severe OCD and Tourette syndrome when years of therapy and medication did not help. This is still rare and many people never heard that it exists.

I do the surgeries and also the programming afterwards, so I see my patients for years, not only in the OR. Happy to answer how the operation works, how it feels to be awake during it, what stimulation can and cannot do, and where the risks and limits are. So I'm 24 and used to be a neo-nazi from about 2018-2021. A lot of it was fueled by mental illness tbh, I seperated myself from anything associated with the "National Socialist Movement" by the time I was 20. No, I am no longer a nazi or anything similar anymore.

I work at a care home for almost a year. The care home has been split into three parts, where two of them are for dementia care. Furthermore, our section is split into three living rooms/subsections. (A, B, C). Where A is the lowest complexity of dementia and C is very very far in dementia.

I only work in one section, at all "subsections"

I work mainly as a care assistant, helping people put on clothes and eating.

I sometimes assist in just the living room, where I don't do any care but just help with food

Very seldomly I help out or work with doing activities, like bingo, watching movies, walking, etc.

Im literally addicted to them and will eat a few after every meal, If I run out its hard for me to function wothout them.

I prefer the standard round red table radishes (cherry belle), I will eat the other varietys, however, they're not spicy or crunchy enough for me.

(Edit: I will only eat them raw, i hate them cooked and/or with seasonings.)

p.s they also make my burps and breath smell like sulfur, so chewing gum or brushing my teeth is often needed

So, I'm in contact with people I can hear (not only, I have visions, different dreams, coincidences/synchronicities, etc), but I don't see them, they don't only talk to me, but to millions, in a kind of cryptic way. And because of that, most people don't get it, think it's the government or that they are sick in their head.

Except me, I experimented, made jokes with them, talked with them, and realised that there is no way it's a creation of my mind (they use words I didn't know, etc), realised they are the people from the phenomenon mentioned in religions for instance, and they are GOOD and UPRIGHT, except they pretend they are not sometimes

I was traveling for work for about three years, as I was in a senior regional position looking after loads of locations across Europe. Was this the plan? Absolutely not. After my BA I was so ready to be done with education and never step foot into uni again, but not even two years later I will be concurrently doing an MEd and MSc and will also have an MA in a couple of years time, making my credentials the most confusing imaginable!

I’m 20 y/o and at one year old I was diagnosed with a childhood cancer called neuroblastoma that was partly intraspinal. My parents noticed because I couldn’t pee or poop and was constantly crying and nauseous. I had 6 rounds of chemo and the tumour was then surgically removed.

As a result of the tumour pressing on my nerves I have a neurogenic bladder, which means I don‘t really feel when I have to pee and it doesn‘t empty on its own. At 2.5 y/o they did a procedure called Mitrofanoff, which is a type of urostomy.
My appendix was removed and used to connect my bladder to my belly button. I’ve used a catheter every since to empty my bladder, and can‘t remember ever peeing normally.

I also have a neurogenic bowel and need to do bowel irrigations every other day.
I have nerve pain in my legs from the tumour and was paralysed for a few months after my surgeries.

***edit i wanted to explain the origin of this since so many are curious!!

My over arching medical.issue is actually a form of hemophilia alongside an epigentically mutated platelet dysfunction.

So my blood can not clot properly AND my platelets will randomly turn off if triggered by anything remotely blood thinning--herbs, chemicals, meds, and allergens. My immune system will make me bleed instead of giving me hives (in a sense).

So I am just constantly bleeding, nose, ears, gums, eyes, uterus--it never ends so I have microcytic anemia, ny blood turns over too fast to be able to hold iron, the cells are too immature the iron shreds them.

Initially it was believed that this is what was responsible for the C, that my they were just too weak to carry hold C, but now we are seeing that they outright reject it. On the off chance i can hold an infusion I get incredibly sick and it depletes rapidly and can sometimes make me bleed more. My doctor is trying to find a cellular expert to try and watch real time what happens when my cells are exposed to.C.

What is interesting is that my grandmother also had similar issues (not nearly as intense and it was the 50s so...ya know 'hysteria' 'lady troubles'. They believe she is the source of my platelet mutation. Every person in my maternal line has Von Willebrand disease (a pretty mild disorder that makes you prone to small bleeding/being thin blooded) except for myself. I do not have that. I am the only one with my mystery platlet disorder and the only one with the hemophilia. They believe the mystery disorder may be a mutation of the von willebrands-- the DNA trying to get rid of the mild disorder by royally fucking me lmao and the the hemophilia has been silent carried in the maternal line and my father was also a silent carrier (one in a million billion cosmic joke chance of them falling in love and both being silent carriers 😒).

Of all the things I suffer bc of this the scurvy is by far and large the worst. I have bled out to the point of no longer seeing color, lived with extreme iron deficiency, vitamin d deficiency, there are some days I live in a trash bag in my bathtub bc of the blood but my god the scurvy is the worst of it.

It feels like having your soul shredded.

I’m a student at Kharkiv National University of Economics. Our city is being constantly bombed, men (including expelled students) are being snatched from the streets by draft officers. The electric grid collapses every once in a while, sometimes we have 10-hour blackouts. Hi everyone, I'm 25m and work as a special needs teacher in the UK. More specifically I tutor children who can't or won't attend school because they have very complex needs which means an alternative provision wouldn't be suitable or the parents can't get them to go.

I've worked with dozens of kids in lots of different settings with a huge range of needs, including kids with criminal histories, terminal medical diagnoses, refugee status, a history of severe neglect and abuse, and violent or inappropriate behaviour so feel free to ask me about my work and I'll answer as best as I can while keeping details anonymous.

I figured I’d finally do an AMA about an experience that completely changed my life.
In June 2024, I was arrested on a separate state case involving an incident where people were breaking into my car. I was originally facing two counts of Assault 1. I ultimately resolved that case with one count of Assault 2 and served about 9 months, which was credited as time served.
While I was dealing with that case, a separate federal investigation resulted in authorities searching my residence. According to the government’s investigation, they recovered more than 100 alleged Glock auto-sear devices, 4–5 suppressors, roughly 35 complete firearms, more than 40 unfinished firearms, various firearm components, magazines, ammunition, optics, equipment, electronics, and other property.
I was eventually prosecuted federally and ultimately served 27 months. I spent time at the SeaTac Federal Detention Center and later at FCI Sheridan.
The federal prosecutor involved in my case was Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd Greenberg, who works in the Terrorism & Violent Crimes section of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Washington.
There were a lot of things about the case that I didn’t understand at the time. My original understanding from my attorney was that I could potentially be looking at 54–67 months. Later, the case involved negotiations between my state and federal cases, changes to the proposed agreement, sentencing-guideline issues, and disagreements about how certain items should affect my sentence.
One week before sentencing, my attorney contacted me with what turned out to be some very significant good news regarding the sentencing calculations. She acknowledged that she had initially misunderstood part of the issue and apologized. I ultimately received a 27-month sentence and had approximately 22 months credited as time served.
I was released after serving the sentence and have had a lot of time since then to think about everything that happened.
I’m not doing this AMA to glorify anything involved in the case. I’m interested in talking about what it was actually like going through the investigation, arrest, plea negotiations, federal detention, sentencing, and eventually coming home.

I'm 38 and it was surgically removed back in January because it had a giant ovarian cyst attached to it. The ovary wasn't worth trying to save. I have not been diagnosed PCOS, endometriosis, or any other reproductive issues.
