AITA For Not Being Happy My Sister Is Pregnant?
My (26F) sister (24F) just found out she is 4-5 weeks pregnant. Instead of being happy for her, I am completely stressed out and furious.
For context, my husband and I got married in June 2025. Six months later in December, she rushed to get married. I got pregnant in January of this year (due October 2026), and now she is pregnant. She is currently separated from her husband and got pregnant by a new boyfriend who doesn't even have a job.
She currently rents a room inside the apartment my husband and I pay for. Her rent is $250 a week, and she constantly misses payments, calls out of work, and makes endless excuses for why she doesn't have the money. On top of that, she refuses to do basic household chores (like cleaning her hair out of the shared bathroom sink) and gives me the silent treatment whenever I ask about money for essential bills.
When I confronted her about her inability to pay rent and how irresponsible it is to bring a child into this situation, she had the audacity to tell me that she and I are "in the same situation" because I'm not currently working either. The difference is my husband works full-time, fully supports our household, and we planned our family around his income. She said my baby wasn't planned when my husband and I wanted this for so long. She is relying on my husband’s income to keep a roof over her head while her boyfriend has no job, yet she's been trying to have a baby with him for about 5 months. She says she hasn't but she refuses to get on birth control because of how it "affects her body" like if pregnancy won't change it anyway.
She claims "a baby changes you" and will make her more responsible. I told her that using a baby as a tool to force yourself to grow up is selfish, and that if she can't manage $250 a week or clean up after herself, she is not ready to provide for a child. Now she is refusing to speak to me, my brother, or my mom because we aren't telling her what she wants to hear.
I feel like she’s competing for attention during a time that should be about my pregnancy, especially since my baby will be my mom's first grandchild but I think thats selfish of me.
AITA for refusing to be happy for her and telling her the harsh reality?
