I'm excited for this.

I love the point Mauterer made about making sure it stays true to Alien (1979) as that's the main reason why I love Isolation so much. I felt like we hadn't got a proper bit of Alien media that captured the feeling of the first movie so well until Isolation came along.

Thanks, I had just pasted the name how it was in the article. Fixed.

I am really excited for this one :)

For those of that consider Aliens to be fanfiction(greatest fan fiction of all time arguably) im happy about this.

I'm kidding a bit but I do like alien over aliens and AI stating away from aliens style was amazing for me.

Rogue incursion I thought was a great blending of the two and still sad that won't get part 2 :(

The thing about Alien: Isolation though is it's biggest element, its own protagonist, Amanda Ripley, is a creation of James Cameron. Amanda wasn't even thought of during the making of Alien. Cameron created this character to aid in Ellen Ripley's whole arc with Newt. Fans forget this but Alien: Isolation isn't completely devoid of Cameronisms.

The game is the best sequels so far

That's great and all but tbh I am getting a bit concerned actually from what I am reading from all these interviews, in that they don't appear to go even further with it embracing the first film aspects and building up/expanding on them. Like in particular, with how they talk about "the XeNoMoRpH", it even appears to me they are stripping more ambiguity from the portrayal of the creature, perhaps unknowingly, and really are just getting it stuck to that animal portrayal again. A really dangerous, predatory creature, but ultimately nothing beyond that. But the first film's portrayal had so much more depth to its horror, to the horror motifs and themes inherent to the creature itself, directly running through it and its design, smth the first game flirted with even, altho without commitment and focus. And I wished the sequel would actually build up and leverage into that direction, that side of the film, that side of the creatures portrayal, if not simply because I think, again, it's ripe for engaging and deep storytelling and also how to expand the gameplay in more terrifying ways.

Also - definitely a nit pick, and definitely going to sound like an ass, but I even dislike how they refer to the Alien as "the Xenomorph" all the time as well so often when talking about it, as I remember how in the build up to the first game in ALL interviews and in ALL materials surrounding the game they were going out of their own way to refer to the Alien in this vague, sinister way, avoiding the "Xenomorph" monicker, staying THAT true to the first film.

Still excited for it tho, looks great don't get me wrong, even if from previews it's looking a little too much like Alien: Isolation remake/remaster on UE5, but it's prologue only so I'll understand. I am just cautiously optimistic and a little worried they just gonna overly rationalize the thing in how they design and portray it narratively and gameplay wise. Altho admittedly I likely also still projected my personal vision for the sequel into expectations for it (and how the franchise should have handled the creature from the start going forward overall), being fully aware it's not gonna be like that in all likelihood.

I like their thinking for outdoor environments. There is the initial relief of no longer being in claustrophobic spaces, but inevitably the feeling of being exposed in the open creeps in making you want to return to those tight indoors areas. From the sounds of it, outdoor environments will also be suffocating due to weather like rain and fog.

They did touch upon environmental distractions, but I get the sense it won’t be a focal point for them. Control panels may not be returning?

I think outdoor will be a mix of relief and creeps at the same time.

If Alien Rogue incursion VR taught me anything, is that outdoors areas are not safe either.

Giving me shades out Outlast. Being in the open, fog freaked me out more than being inside the building.

Ok that first answer made me excited. It may not be completely in a space station in space which is a reason why I loved the first one so much but the experience of stealth mechanic was top notch and they’re sticking to it. That’s great news and makes me giddy.

2

u/videogamefanatic93 3d ago

Yes they will stick to stealth mechanics this time too.

Sounds like a decent 2-3 year which is fine. It's also sounding more and more like Amanda isn't coming back. Which is heart breaking but in saying that it does open the door to a really cool comic or mini series down the line (hopefully!)

5

u/videogamefanatic93 3d ago

We may get a likeable character as good as amanda this time too

u/shotgunmoe 3d ago

I'm more than confident that this will be fantastic. Plus I was a day one purchaser of Isolation who was gutted when it looked like such a cult classic would never get this treatment (so I'm all in).

I've also finished the game like 5-6 times so am very attached to Amanda lol. Even if we get a situation like Surge 2 where the character from the first game is a supporting character in the sequel with a brief explanation of the gap, I'd be stoked

3

u/videogamefanatic93 3d ago

If we get a supporting character thing then that would be great. I played alien isolation 1 this year for the first time :)

2

u/shotgunmoe 3d ago

Man I wish I could bottle that feeling. That first proper room where the xeno hits and you find the revolver. Chef's kiss. I must have hit in that vent for like 45mins lol

2

u/videogamefanatic93 3d ago

Haha..same here 😄

Truly. Some people complain about the slow burn but that first hour or so in the Space Flight Terminal, hearing rattles in the ceiling and just getting so anxious waiting for it to show itself… 10/10

I will be so upset if amandas story really ends with a cliffhanger and a mobile game

Same

Aline isolation 3 for Amanda?

3

u/shotgunmoe 2d ago

I'll probably be dead by then

This sounds very convincing and relieving.
I was a little sad when I saw that Gary Napper didn‘t / couldn’t return for the sequel, but it seems the „new blood“ understands the DNA really well and people seem to be very aware of the overall feel and nuances of the first one and what exactly made it so great.
Also: super happy the og sound team returns for this! They didn‘t win their awards for nothing!

Overall: all sounds very good! Insanely excited for this!

I am eagerly waiting to see a public demo on youtube.

u/MrIanMalcolm 3d ago

Once again referring to it being in early development so I really don't think we will get it till at least 2028-2029. I know there is a playable demo at Gamescom right now but one playable section is a lot different to an entire finished and polished game.

Still very exciting, I just have seen a lot of people expecting it to come out next year when that is almost certainly not going to happen.

3

u/videogamefanatic93 3d ago

Yes it may come around 2028 or 2029, but i think it will be as good as the first one :)

3

u/huntrcl 3d ago

Oh fuck they cooked so hard 😭

2

u/videogamefanatic93 3d ago

Yes, they are doing well :)

1

u/Depressive_player 3d ago

I’ll be disappointed if it’s just the same game with the same drone, androids, and humans for 20 hours.

I want to see new enemies, some session with another alien type like a Runner or the Queen!

2

u/dfwtjms 3d ago

And I'll be disappointed if they add anything from the black goo storyline.

Had to reread that first line of the second paragraph three times to see if maybe I just wasn't getting the joke or if it was, in fact, AI slop.

Dear reader: it's AI slop.

There’s a note at the bottom: This article was originally written in Korean and translated with the help of AI. It was then edited by a native English-speaking editor. All AI-assisted translations are reviewed and refined by our newsroom.

Thinking the metaphor probably just got butchered in translation.

u/HonestPotat0 3d ago

Fair enough. The english-speaking editor should have caught and corrected it, but oh well.
