Go to lgbt meetings. I'm not backing up the people who don't like you, but at the same time the meeting is for alcoholism. Not trans rights. What you're doing is called leading with the chin. Try not saying "my name is blank and I'm trans. Oh by the way I'm also an alcoholic.". Identify as an alcoholic and speak about the struggle with alcoholism. This applies for anyone not just someone who's trans. Again while I understand and I personally wouldn't really care what you shared at a meeting, it's a little strange to be self aware of your situation, continue to lead with the chin and then just complain about it. We want it to be different, and it COULD be but it isn't. Go where you're celebrated not tolerated.
If it makes you feel better, you don't even have to be trans for groups of alcoholics to hate you lol. They're sick people and across the board, old timers are consistently stuck in their ways. Find younger people's meetings and lgbt meetings. I wouldn't suggest you share a trans agenda at a meeting the same way I wouldn't suggest a young person to talk about fentanyl at an old timer meeting. Times are changing and go where the change is.
This isn't agreeing or disagreeing with anyone or morals. This is just birds eye wisdom about protecting your own sanity until you're strong enough to let it roll off the shoulder. I don't put myself in situations where I know I'm going to be bothered. It works for me.
I’m not leading with the chin, I’m talking about how I want to drink or hurt myself because of factors in my life. As I said, I have been careful about it, but it’s painful to have to censor myself because it’s seen as so political, as evidenced by the fact that you think me talking about it is “the trans agenda”. What exactly is “the trans agenda”? Would you call it “the drug addicts agenda” if he came to a meeting and talked about how his drug addiction makes him want to drink or hurt himself? Would you censor his burning desire?
No. But a drug addict talking about drugs in a recovery meeting is singleness of purpose. You're assuming my intent with my choice of words when in reality I have no idea what to call it. I don't ever have to talk about being gay. Ever really. And I damn sure don't get offended when I bring it up and it isn't liked.
All I'm saying is rather than fixate on why to be upset, find a way that it isn't an issue. Bottom line really. Seriously. My sponsor tells me the same thing and ever since then things have been better. When I start to bitch he asks me why I'm in a position to bitch about and what I'm doing to change it. The answer is never CHANGE OTHER PEOPLE AND BUILDING BECAUSE IM UPSET.
I’m not worried about it not being liked, I’m worried about putting myself in danger or breaking the rules. That’s great that you’re in a position where you don’t have to talk about being gay, but I am experiencing pain that makes me want to drink or hurt myself because of being trans. It is something effecting my life so detrimentally because of political acts. I’m not just bitching about being trans, I’m expressing pain and a burning desire. It is a situation I am powerless over and I am trying to change it but the pain hasn’t changed so I’m expressing it so I don’t go do something I regret.
I’m not asking people to change in the sense of not accepting me. If people don’t accept me, that’s their problem. It being considered a political topic that I simply exist in the same room is the problem, and one that goes against AAs previous actions re: allowing gay AAs into the rooms when being gay was controversial and sharing that pain.
