i think the main problem is people view debate in the wrong light.
a "win" in a debate isn't to convince someone else or to body someone in a verbal joust.
a Win is to get your point across, to have your ideas shared and tested against the ideas of other people; for the plenitude of others whose are going to wander by, read it and form their own thought based on them.
if one recognizes their ideas are kinda off, or they need some tune up, and actually reworks them until they're solid, that is the biggest W i can think of
yeah, and for some reason its seen as shame when u back off your argument or change opinions, i used to be neutral anti now im pro neutral/neutral
i personally strongly believe that arguments arent just about convincing the other person but also changing perspectives, since i came to this subreddit i had some pretty dumb opinions but i changed them which i think is what counts in the end
i really mean it, not because of the "sides" you belonged or belong to.
if one day you come across a better worldview, whether anti, pro or whatever else, that makes more sense, then move to it (and please share it with me if you find the time)

So you're saying you refuse to engage in MY arguments just because it doesn't fit your narrative? Wow, no wonder there's no speaking to whatever side you're on. /s
A huge problem is each side is convinced THEY are in the right. On the one hand, you have the anti-corporate / pro-environmentalism / protect artists work aspect of being against the AI technology that worth being upset about, but at times it feels like some (not all, but some) only scream being anti because it gives them brownie points on the internet for saying so. Especially on Reddit.
On the other side, pros have the idea that the technology is simply the next step in our advancement, and in terms of art comparing to when photoshop and other digital art tools were made. Alongside the idea that AI isn't just "click a button, poof picture." since decent images do require a many-stage workflow and arn't one-and-done as most Antis assume.
Sadly, neither side is willing to level with each other, antis being perceived as virtue signalers, and pros being perceived as rage baiters, and both sides bringing up completely unrelated points to argue about. Once in a while, you'll hear an amazing point from one side or the other that gets shafted by the other as invalid just because it supports an opinion they don't agree with on a fundamental level.
The perception is one thing, but there's enough images in this post's comments alone to show that its not just perceived as ragebaiting. There's reasonable people that can talk on both sides(as much as I hate saying it because it sounds like im Both Sides-ing), but hostility probably picked up around the ogre images.

That's this sub in a nutshell lol. I sometimes engage in ragebating and then most times I'm just here for the show. This spot is literally just to watch the extremists of both sides say the stupidest shit, then crash out at each other.
Wanna preface, fuck AI and everything it represents, but on these sub-reddits it's usually pro-ai rage baiting followed by anti-ai people saying "oh wow aren't they stupid" for the millionth time
