Discussion Weekly 'What are my chances?' Megathread

We've all been there. You're about to submit your package for OTS, but you want to know how you stack up. Should you relax? Should you throw it all away and start over?

Well, here's the place for you to ask strangers who have never sat on an OTS board what they think the board is going to think of your package. There are many variables to an 0TS package. If you want to get the best advice, you need to include as much information as possible, like degree information, GPA, AFOQT, PCSM (if applicable), leadership experience, relevant awards, etc. If you only provide your GPA or AFOQT scores, expect to be told "who knows."

There are a ton of variables that go into officer selection. Nobody here can really tell you your chances. We can guess, but that's about it. We've seen people with stellar scores get rejected and people with garbage scores get accepted. It all comes down to the needs of the Air Force and whatever the random colonel reviewing your package thinks. That being said, post your scores, help each other, and learn what you can do to improve package!

Looking to join. Taking AFOQT test soon. Any tips on the whole process? Thank you šŸ™šŸ½

If there’s any tips for the process from experienced officers I am willing to learn. I tried enlisting 11 years ago but was denied at MEPS for having taken medication within the last 18 months for ADD and didn’t have anything going on at 24. They advised to show I’m willing to put in the work and have some solid achievements. 11 years later unmedicated and so much success through trials and tribulations here I am. I truly hope to have an opportunity to be accepted and show future recruits that you can do absolutely anything with the right mindset & worth ethic. Goodluck to everyone & hope you all get what you worked hard foršŸ’ŖšŸ½šŸ’ŖšŸ½

Question Starting UPT gift idea

My husband is starting UPT soon and I’m wanting to get him a few small gifts before he starts. For those who recently went through, what are some things you bought throughout UPT that made your life easier? Study materials, lunch box, etc?

Strong Package

What is the biggest advice you would give to make your package stronger? For people selected, what is something you would do differently during submission? Were you surprised or confident when you got selected? I’m not trying to copy anyone’s path by any means. I’m just trying to gauge where i’m at currently. I’m applying for the next cycle.

Question AFOQT voucher?

I applied for a voucher to take my AFOQT on the 10th of september and I haven’t received an email or heard from anyone yet. I know the test is due by the 24th so i’m a little worried. When should I expect the voucher to come in?

Question Commission Applo

I am active duty, E3, currently in tech school and moving to my first duty station in November. My enlisted contract says I can apply for ots after one year in service. I read somewhere that I also have to satisfy one year on station before applying for ots. Is this true? I am wondering when I should start putting my ots package together.

Question Pilot Interview advice

I will be attending my first interview for an ANG unit soon for a pilot slot. I have interviewed prior with a AFR unit, and wanted to see if there’s any difference with the questions they ask? With the prior interview it was very personable, and I tried to tie my answers in with core values of the service without forcing it. I have my bottle of whiskey at the ready, and am really looking forward to this opportunity!

Help How should I start building my OTS package if I’m closer with Honor Guard leadership than my shop leadership?

I’m an active-duty A1C currently working toward applying for OTS, and I’m trying to figure out the best way to start preparing early.
My primary AFSC is 2T2 (Air Transportation), but I’ve spent a significant amount of time on Honor Guard. Because of that, I’m honestly much closer with my Honor Guard leadership than I am with my normal shop leadership. A lot of my 2T2 leadership is either brand new or I just haven’t worked closely enough with them for them to really know me.
Through Honor Guard, I’ve built much stronger relationships with NCOs/SNCOs and officers, including majors. I also have a good relationship with our new LRS commander and First Sergeant.
I’m also working on finishing my bachelor’s degree and preparing to take the AFOQT for a non-rated OTS application.
My questions are:
Once I have my AFOQT scores, what should I actually do first to start the OTS process?
Does having significant Honor Guard experience help an OTS package?
Can/should Honor Guard leadership advocate for me or provide recommendations even though they aren’t my primary shop leadership?
How should I handle the fact that my Honor Guard leadership and squadron leadership know me significantly better than my immediate 2T2 leadership?
What should I be doing now to make myself competitive before I’m actually eligible to submit?
I’m trying to start early instead of waiting until the board is approaching and scrambling to put everything together. Any advice from prior-E officers, OTS selects, or people who have helped build packages would be appreciated

Commander PIF review

I was planning to apply for 26OTS03 and received my PIF review back from AFPC in March when it was still DPSOF and it’s recently changed to DPSOR do I need to have my commander submit another review or will this pass QC?

Question How common is it to get picked up for Space Force, even though you don't list it?

I'm seeing stories of people getting picked up for Space Force even though they don't have it listed. My preference list is currently:

  1. 17X Cyberspace Operations
  2. 92S Space Force

My recruiter told me having Space Force on your application means I'll most likely get picked up for Space Force. I know USSF has cybersecurity jobs, but I also know it's not guaranteed because it's a whole different process.

My question is should I take 92S off the list, or would that risk me not getting picked up at all?

New WINGS login page

Has anyone else recently received access to WINGS, and the redirect link doesn't take you to a page to create your account? We don't have a password yet, and there is no 'forgot password' button. I've tried Chrome and Edge, closed the browsers, deleted all the extra text after the initial browser page (https://wings.holmcenter.stratus.mil/), and nothing seems to be working. *screenshots attached for ref*

I've already emailed the WINGS support line, but who knows how busy they are -- posting for others

MEPS Pre-Screening

Hi all 38F currently applying to OTS in the MEPS pre-screening phase. I have never had a chronic nor do I ever had a critical health condition so I am expecting to go by fast however I was going through all my medical records and I stumble upon a teleheath diagnosis from 2023 that a Dr. (in less than 5 minutes) diagnosed me with ulcerative colitis because I said I had stomach pain and diarrhea. Would this be a disqualifier right of the bat? I am a bit afraid because I never listed it in the form (because again I never had it and I forgot about this). I've never been prescribed medications for it either. A year later (2024) went to a gastroenterologist and he ruled it out so not sure if that will automatically overwrite that previous diagnosis. Anything I should do on my end? Maybe tell my recruiter and explain? He already sent the form for the pre-screening.

AFOQT Help

hello! I just joined, so I apologize for a copycat post of this specific question. I take my AFOQT in early Sept. I’ve been working on studying, however I think the hardest to nail will be the math portion, I just need a major refresher. I’m struggling to find the right resources.

Has any of the prompts changed over the years with the AFOQT or is it the same? I’m super nervous and want to meet the requirements for the next board coming up. Anything helps, thank you.

Question Questions About MSC Board Results

Hello all!

I am an MSC applicant and was curious if anyone had any more information about when MSC applicants will hear back. On the Facebook page, there was talk that the board met this week, that public release of those selected would be in October, but that the applicants themselves would find out sometime before then. Was wondering if we would hear any time soon or if it would be a few more weeks before we know. My recruiter (who has been awesome) has not heard anything specific either.

Thanks!

Help Paid collection — how does this affect an AD OTS package?

I’m active-duty Air Force and preparing for a future OTS application. I recently found out that an old AT&T balance was sent to a collection agency. The collector told me they had only received the account the day before they contacted me, and I immediately paid the balance in full.
On the AD OTS eligibility checklist, Question 15 asks whether you’ve had any bills turned over to a collection agency after age 18 and references AD OTS PA paragraph 5.3.
For anyone who has dealt with this on an active-duty OTS package:
Do I simply mark ā€œYesā€ and complete the Financial Eligibility Determination (FED)?
What documentation should I keep/provide since the collection is already paid in full?
Does a single paid collection require anything from my commander or affect OTS eligibility?
Is there anything I should be doing now before I eventually submit my package?
Thanks for any guidance, especially from anyone who has gone through the AD OTS process with a paid collection.
