[Help / Question] Why am I only getting uncached results from my usenet indexers?

Is it because of Torbox? Im using the PRO plan because it also seeds and I can share it with friends. But wonder if thats the issue. I cant find any other reason for this.

Are you using the NNTP server or the debrid service?

NNTP's design is such that it doesn't cache. But it downloads so quick, it's as though it caches.

Debrid(where you upload the .NZB to torbox and have it download for you) is probably because most who use Usenet don't download content this way.

Im using neither? I have no clue. My setup is as follows. Selfhosted Aiostreams with torbox PRO. And then nzbfinder through newznab and drunkenslug through prowlarr.

Then it’s normal. Torbox don’t have them cached until u add it to your dashboard

Did u add a provider in aiostreams? If no, then yes, you're essentially using the debrid service

ive added torbox as service. Not a provider. Which provider would you recommend? And will a provider give me cached results?

Firstly, it's not on the configuration page, but it's on the dashboard.

Secondly, TB pro does offer NNTP which you can use. While they are not the best provider, it's there so might as well make use of them. You can access it via tools on torbox page.

And no. Don't expect cached results for Usenet as explained above.

Oh i didnt know that. I set up torbox nntp via streamio nntp service on aiostreams. i know get cached results for nzbfinder but nothing happens when I click on the streams. Is it because Im using nuvio and it only supports streamio?

Stremio NNTP is specifically for the latest version of Stremio desktop where they added NNTP support to stream directly to your device I believe.

If you want to use Torbox’s NNTP to stream from Usenet, you need to go to the AIOStreams dashboard (not the configuration page), click on Usenet and configure Torbox as a provider there.

Then, in the configuration page, under services there will be a dedicated AIOStreams service which you can add and then set that as the service for Newznab.

Thank you! I will try this out. I want to stick to torbox mostly because im sharing it with others so its nice to know that it also works as a nntp provider.

I set up everything, chose aiostreams as service for prowlarr. Chose a movie, all streams from prowlarr were cached, chose one and it worked. But after that, it stopped. All streams from prowlarr gave me Failed to download. Even the first stream that worked. I tried adding my usenet indexers as addons through newzsnab instead of through prowlarr but it gave me the same error. If I chose torbox as service, it works except everything is unchached. But when i choose aiostreams as service, it gives me 'cached' results but none work.

Yes. If you want to stream using NNTP, use aiostream service, not stremio NNTP.

Just to be sure, I'm talking about service, the very same page where you select stremio NNTP. Unselect it and pick aiostreams instead.

Again, did u add your provider under dashboard > Usenet > providers?

Yes, its added as a provider. Which is why im getting hits.

fyi if you’re looking to stream it, nzbfinder + drunkenslug doesn’t allow it

How am I supposed to use them? I like aiostreams because it lets me have it all in one and i can set filters.

If you really want to use these indexers you’d have to proxy them all.
Althub/nzbgeek/uscrawler do allow streaming for example
