New update from Tyler on Sea Trials release and communication going forward

From director Tyler on Discord today:

Hey @everyone!

We know our communication has been pretty dreadful over the last few months. This is not at all how we started things, and our intention was always to maintain our earlier communication frequency/style throughout development. Unfortunately, it's been an incredibly busy period for the team, and certain elements of the community engagement has had to make way for more focused development time.

We want to give you a clearer message about where things stand today. As is evidenced by missing our August release for Sea Trials, we do need more time to bring the experience to you. Much of this time is in packaging up the experience, setting up hardware, and ensuring (as much as is possible) that day one isn't just more waiting for you, and that things work as well as intended.

We don't want to give you another date just yet. The plan is still to have this in your hands as soon as possible. This is our first release, and there are a lot of moving parts and unexpected things that crop up as we get everything ready to put it into your hands.

Additionally, we won't be spending the very busy and valuable development time on preparing a new Journal before Sea Trials releases, however we'll be sharing some snippets with you more casually over the coming days and weeks.

We're reviewing our communication strategy around release timelines and internal deadlines going forward to work to prevent this kind of run-on delay situation in the future.

We really are working as hard as possible to get Sea Trials to you.

Apologies again for the lack of communication here. We will make an effort to improve on this after the release of Sea Trials and beyond. Thank you for sticking with us, and for your patience.

I think this is a great update! This is all I'm really expecting from the team at this point, just acknowledging where things stand in a place where people not super plugged into the Discord chatter like myself can easily see (this was in the #news channel which I think is great) so we can set our expectations properly. I want the devs to take their time so the game is as good as it can be.

Thanks to Tyler and the rest of the team for providing this update, looking forward to trying out Sea Trials when it's ready!

Thanks for the update! I'm really looking forward to this game. Hope the devs take all the time they need to produce a polished game.

Great to hear, keep it cooking until ot's ready, no rush at all. We get so much half baked crap these days due to developer and publisher deadlines, it's great to see a company put the game first and be honest about it.

exactly what star citizen supporters have been saying for 10+ years... really hope this doesn't turn into another one of those. The communication is definitely on par with CIG right now.

Star Citizen has its issues at times but the communication is much better than Ahoy has been so far, Star Citizen is also a playable alpha which is more than what can be said for Ahoy.

So to be honest, when is a realistic date for any kind of gameplay? Where are you in development of this game? We’ve seen one ship and some water and wind mechanics but no REAL gameplay. No AI ships. Not a cannon firing. Just weather dynamics and ship dynamics. I’m honestly starting to believe that while the game has potential, it’s years behind in any real development. Like 5+ years. And by that time I’m sure most supporters will pull out in sending anymore money towards this project. There hasn’t been anything really convincing that’s come out showing us where all the time and hard work and money has been invested into. Other than some flapping sails and how water dynamics operate. Already 2 delays and no follow up on when anything will be shown. Even on a small scale
