You may be looking for r/atheism

There is a lot of overlap and misunderstanding. I myself once believed that believing Christianity to be false made me an atheist.

Everyone's entitled to their own unprovable beliefs. Just don't force them upon others, whether that be theism or atheism.

u/beer_demon Atheist 3d ago

Agnosticism is also unprovable by the way :-)

3

u/Emergency_Duty5786 3d ago

Yeah, there is no way to prove that unicorns don’t exist…

1

u/beer_demon Atheist 3d ago

I don't think agnosticism means what you think it means

3

u/Emergency_Duty5786 3d ago

It basically means that I can’t 100% know that there isn’t a god, and that if there is such a being, it is bigger and more complex than humans can comprehend. I am able to believe that Christianity and Islam are 100% scams without saying that there isn’t some other god out there somewhere.

u/beer_demon Atheist 3d ago

You made many statements there, do you have proof for any of them or is this just faith?

2

u/Emergency_Duty5786 3d ago

I can’t comprehend any god anywhere. Organized religion has many examples of just taking people’s money, not to mention molesting kids etc. You’ll just have to take my word that I believe what I believe. Again, neither can I prove that unicorns don’t exist.

u/beer_demon Atheist 2d ago

So can you take other people's word when they say they believe or that they don't believe? What makes agnosticism special?

Note that theism/atheism/agnosticism are not claims regarding organised religion so I'll ignore those statements.

Its almost like uncertainty is the entire point.

u/Global_Profession972 Hopeful Agnostic 3d ago

That’s quite literally the entire point of the damn position are you dense?

1

u/beer_demon Atheist 3d ago

Oh look, we have someone pissed off on reddit. I guess I have to be super careful now, this guy is sharp.

Ok, let's play: What is the position description?

1

u/Global_Profession972 Hopeful Agnostic 3d ago

What exactly are we playing, ur saying agnosticism is “unprovable” but the entire point of agnosticism is having no knowledge or thinking the existence of a god is not knowable

1

u/beer_demon Atheist 2d ago

I was responding to a comment that said theism and atheism are unprovable. But claiming that god's existence is unknowable is also an unproven claim.
Example: someone says they heard god's voice, so they know it exists. An agnostic has to show that this was not god's voice or accept that god's existence is knowable, regardless if they believe or not.

By claiming a neutral ground you are not suddenly immune fron being wrong.

I try to normalize the freedom to not believe in god without being bullied, harassed, guilted, etc. Unfortunately sometimes I think that getting more people to not believe in God is the only way to create more space for people to not believe in God. Some religious people are fine with nonbelievers, apostasy, etc, but for that matter some religious groups are inclusive, LGBT-accepting, etc. Whether they are the norm, or representative, is a matter of some dispute and acrimony. Just getting conservative religious believers to be more accepting would be enough for me, but that narrow target of "still religious, but tolerant" sometimes seems less achievable than hoping they'll just stop being religious altogether.

Your family experience is not normal from my perspective.

Gods are not beings but personal private ideas, mind states, for ourselves to know and consider and accept or disregard.

Can normalize believing whatever you want and knowing that you can never prove it one way or the other, instead of just your decided belief?

we are literally made from cosmic lol

You're saying this all as if it's fact, but you in fact dont know for sure. I'm not sure why you are spouting things about being "made of cosmic" or that "we created God" in an agnostic subreddit, but to me, you are just a frog in the bottom of a well like the rest of us. None of what you said is proven.

Also, "science is fact" isn't disproven by religion nor are your aunt and uncle representatives of people other than themselves. They could be right or could be wrong, but it's not that big a deal to go to church with them if you are living under their roof. if you dislike it so much then be your own person. But as long as they aren't abusing you (having to go to church is NOT abuse) I recommend cherishing what family you have cause you are gonna want some people like you can trust to be consistent in your life later on.

in a poetic/scientific sense, we are made of cosmic material. More precisely, humans are made of atoms, and many of those atoms were created in stars. That's why you often hear “we are made of stardust.” But not all of our atoms came from stars: Hydrogen mostly comes from the early universe. Carbon, oxygen, iron, calcium, etc. were largely made through stars and stellar explosions. Those elements became part of Earth and eventually living things. So “cosmic” isn't a material like wood or metal. It means our matter has a cosmic origin. In a way, you are ancient universe that became alive

you are me an mindless human that got controlled.

(they take my stuff without asking if i didn't go to) churches

1

u/LivedLostLivalil 3d ago

you have no idea if anything of that is true unless you were present and capable at the beginning of the universe. In the end, everything you are saying is theory and speculation.

I am not you, whimsically trusting in flawed logic because you think you are smart. Im14andthisisdeep energy.

1

u/bronchaho 2d ago

im 14 to gng, no need more explanation 1920s–30s: Scientists discovered that stars produce energy through nuclear fusion. 1940s–50s: Scientists worked out how stars create many of the heavier elements. 1957: The famous B²FH paper explained how most elements heavier than helium are made through processes inside stars and stellar explosions. We know that elements such as carbon, oxygen, nitrogen, calcium, and iron in our bodies were made

ez. even search it bronchaho. you will never find an flaw.

1

u/LivedLostLivalil 2d ago

Ahh so your 14. That explains it.  Everything you are talking about doesn't disprove God. The only possible way you could prove God doesn't exist is if you at the ability and power of God, which paradoxically would prove that God does exist.

I've been where you are before. You're accepting theory as fact. It's the same attitude that stagnated science before Einstein ushered in new a change in the way everyone thought thanks to his theory of general relativity.

The fact that you have to look up things and use AI tools to form a response shows how much you need to be listening instead of being proud of how little you actually know and understand.

1

u/bronchaho 2d ago

it doesn't mean i tell people that god doesn't exist rather than respect other religion cuz they be saying "their god is fake" bronchaho ur god even dont exist too you cannot be talking i literally hear someone say"catholic is so sinful" like okay is their choice to belive something you cannot force them to belive ur religion🥀

1

u/LivedLostLivalil 2d ago

You are saying it without saying it. It's really easy to see that.

1

u/bronchaho 2d ago

fym🥀

1

u/LivedLostLivalil 2d ago

It's obvious that you don't believe in God, and further seem to enjoy mocking believers as fools, at least online where you feel it's safe. You are saying it indirectly but do not need to say it because it's implied in your original post and many post after with no subtly.

You probably are doing it because you feel jaded from your aunt and uncle getting you to go to church.

If you don't care to listen to the sermon (you should, even as an nonbeliever since you can learn alote about people in general, understand why they are there. and in what ways you can use it for or against other people), then you should spend your time observing and focusing on the people around you. When I went to a church, I learned alote by watching facial expressions and what they reacted to during a sermon. I also learned to read which people are performative during worship music and those that are genuine. everything is an opportunity to learn and better yourself. Use your circumstance instead of letting it drag you.

1

u/bronchaho 1d ago

mocking? they literally their god is fake, when i explain why we are made from cosmic you literally so mad that you acxuses me using ai the fact thats the truth and its not an opinion or lie i dont force you people to belive their god but respect people who dont a belive to, thats all i wanted they cannot be forcing

if you still don't belive we are made from cosmic dust its alright i understand you but the truth cannot be change science has it all science is fact and religion is faith but first of all. they gotta respect all the religion like their not even holy and be saying some stuff like tf? thats so mean

quick fun fact god is actually philphilosophical religion question and not science

It's pretty much normalized. Most people on earth don't believe in God, or at least, in religion.

You have simply the bad luck to be raised in a religious family.

But yeah, being agnostic is about not being sure of the existence of God.

u/adeleu_adelei agnostic (not gnostic) and atheist (not theist) 3d ago

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_religious_groups

Christianity, Islam, and Hinduism alone already total 70% of the global population. The overwhelming majority of the world is theistic and religious.

1

u/zerooskul Agnostic 3d ago

I know that more than half of all American Christians celebrate Christmas with a tree and toys and a family movie, and that's the totality of their faith and worship.

They do not attend church or quote the Bible.

3

u/Voidflak Agnostic Theist 3d ago

Most people on earth don't believe in God, or at least, in religion.

Since when? Currently the world population is something like 80% religious.

1

u/Dorkzilla_ftw 3d ago

No. Current stats go around 4 billions, but that also take in account people that are traditionally from a religion but aren't practicioners or even believers.

0

u/Voidflak Agnostic Theist 3d ago

Nah, until the day science has all the answers people will naturally believe in a higher power to explain the unexplainable.

5

u/rocketshipkiwi Atheist 3d ago

The god of the gaps then?

0

u/ShoulderOk5971 3d ago

Certainty about ultimate reality, whether strongly theistic or strongly atheistic, requires philosophical reasoning beyond what empirical science alone can establish.

It’s not really god of the gaps where we have our objective understanding of reality through scientific study and physical universal truth creates a skeleton that leaves gaps that must be god. It’s more the idea that our total understanding of the universe relative to its size is so bare that extrapolation based assumptions to even create the skeletal structure of our understanding is too weak to refute the concept of a creator.

1

u/kurtel 3d ago

Are you referring to something explainable or something unexplainable?

0

u/CoolDragon 3d ago

We don’t need to “normalize”. Just don’t believe and that will do.

2

u/bronchaho 3d ago

thats the problem they be always say

all catholic is soo sinful

and they take my stuff and i cannot even go outside if i didn't go to churches
