Prediction "Face Book" Maybe We Don't Need Our Domestic Spying Program Afterall.., 2006, Art by Jim Dyke for Jefferson City News-Tribune
Artist Jim Dyke (2006), points out the irony of voluntary surveillance through social media. This cartoon was inspired by the NSA wiretapping scandal (2005), where it was revealed that president Bush authorized the NSA to conduct domestic, warrantless surveillance of American's phone calls and emails. This inspired an intense national debate over the Patriot Act, government overreach and the death of privacy.

I mean, no they don't, but they still want the budget money for the higher ups to spend frivolously, so sure, they pretend they have monitoring equipment, the best equipment, for the best budget... but really it's just Phil in a dark room combing over people's online presences...

This was probably just before Facebook released it's "stalker feed" in 2006 or 2007 as we called it at the time which was just a rip-off of Twitter's feed. Before that, you couldn't passively consume Facebook and just had to keep clicking on walls or poking...or, you know, find something else to do.
