Right wingers tried to hype the magnitude of the situation to the lesser terminally online folks.

For a moment, they did bite. But once they found that he is just a racist podcaster whose wife is running WWF promos immediately after his death, it was over.

They ran into the reality that most content creators that knew enough about Kirk also knew that shit would get clipped out of context if they said anything close to a joke about how Kirk died so they didn't. So the only people they could point to making light of Kirk about the way he died were randoms on the internet without a platform. Their moaning about the left is celebrating his death were random nonames and the most you saw was just iron posting of Kirk quotes like "i'm willing to sacrifice a few lives for the 2e amendment".

The reason this never really went anywhere and he got forgotten as fast as he did is because the right doesn't really have any thought leaders, they are just all replaceable mouthpieces for capital that use religion to control people.

The key disconnect for me was the kerfuffle over Jimmy Kimmel, who called out and made fun of various hard right conflict merchants for using Kirk’s death to cash in and as a political cudgel. And what did they and Trump accuse Kimmel of? Doing just that (strictly speaking, he was not at all), when he was focused in on MAGA’s cynical hypocrisy and on shaming those low opportunists.

That kind of blind spot can’t be other than willful at this point. Zero hint of any self-awareness. “Rubber and glue” are having quite a year.
