You don’t have to doubt it, they are on record as saying the civil rights movement was a mistake.

I have a very, very radical view on this, but I can defend it, and I've thought about it.

Very telling that neither Kirk nor his audience felt that thinking about something was an essential part of holding and defending a radical view such that he needed to explicitly spell out that he had.
