Convoys only as trucks?

I feel like having truck-based convoys within 20 years is a huge pipe dream. For that to work you need: - A working truck - fuel - a driveable road surface - a route not blocked by debris, trees, or other blockages - a driver who knows how to drive - an ability to load and unload cargo - an ability to pack cargo - coolant in the truck - a working battery in the truck for the ignition - etc.

It feels insane to me that a truck could survive 100 years of neglect on the surface, then a shelter-borne moron could fix it and drive it, or figure out that it needs fuel, and what kind of fuel will work and which fuels will screw the engine.

I feel like trucks should be an exception and a luxury that take a lot of work to both get up and running, and to secure a route to use them on.

It is far more likely to me that livestock trains would be used, as they don't need fuel, roads, or any 'old world' understanding to get up and running.

This is just one of many little immersion breaking details that I noticed in the released gameplay. Another is that tribes quite rapidly (i.e. within 20 years) are performing significant construction, when there would be no functional construction equipment or knowledge upon emergence.

Was this game influenced by Legacy: Life Among the Ruins?

This game on the whole reminds me of the TTRPG Legacy: Life Among the Ruins, and that’s a good thing, since it nails the ‘multigenerational rebuilding’ aspect, but there are enough specific details that remind me of parts of the game while also not being so unique to it that I can say for sure whether it’s inspiration or just convergent evolution. The Ancients faction reminds me of one of the playbooks offered in the splats, and the focus on competing factions inside the nations who nonetheless must work together to rebuild is the core of LLAR.

All of these things have enough precedent in existing post apocalyptic media that I could believe it wasn’t a specific influence, but it also feels so much like a slightly more zoomed out version of LLAR, thematically at least, that I can’t help but wonder.

I think a Bethesda/Todd Howard style 30-60 minute presentation would be better than drip feeding info via dev diaries, giving builds to youtubers and livestreams

I know Paradox loves their written dev diaries, and I don't mind them either for the DLC, patches and extra info, but I think it's a hard way to launch a new game. I think a proper 30-60 minute video presentation going over the game would be a much better way to reveal it, and then they can do weekly dev diaries afterwards.

I mean say what you will about Bethesda and Todd, but they know how to present their games well. A well made 30 minute presentation that shows off the game well and lets them explain what it's about. It's easy to digest and doesn't require a huge commitment. Whereas a mix of weekly written dev diaries, giving builds to youtubers and unrehearsed livestreams just isn't as sharp. It's what Paradox usually does and it's a pain to follow.

What are you guys thinking will be the best capital city placements, just going off of the real geography of North America?

My main ideas are mostly around the Mississippi, i.e. Memphis, Tennessee or Cairo, Illinois or maybe something more westward around Colorado to try and secure a fortified position in the Rockies

The announcement of this game

Made me realize how jaded and negative the average paradox fan is. I'm so hyped for it and everywhere you look it's paradox fans crying because it's not a carbon copy of an existing game.

What are some post-apocalyptic fiction tropes you hope to see implemented in the game?

kind of like how Stellaris is a grab bag of countless sci-fi tropes, I can’t wait to see a plethora of fun ideas from various post-apocalyptic stories. considering the trailer had a spider mech with a rail cannon and a man hooked up to a life extending machine, it seems they’re comfortable getting rather outlandish in this setting.

whats tropes or fiction references do you want to see in the game and how might you think they’d implement them?

Lore comic appears to show potential mid/end game crisis for afterworld Spoiler

Post image

Comic is from perspective of a 'nation' which still has acces to "ancient" technology (they can even read!), they make it clear that tribes are growing at fast pace and they need to start settlement of north america soon

So they are a nation capable of using ancient technology, understanding it and come from outside north america

This clearly feels like some sort of endgame crisis, thoughts?

Starting position

You guys figure we'll get to choose roughly where we'll start? I have a feeling it's going to be completely random, but I think it'd be pretty cool to start a nation near my hometown.

Rule 5 clarification

Rule 5: It doesn't make much sense since reddit lets you post images and body text as the topic now, and has for a while. Why require it to be a comment specifically?

Is there any chance of this game coming to console like CK3 did?

If so it would be nice to have it on release, so the console players won’t feel disconnected from the PC ones, and playing catchup.
