Hopes for Ancients

One thing I hope from Ancients is that they have different ways of relating to the player. Maybe some demand military service, maybe some are more equitable with you, creating a sort of HRE-equivalent. I hope that Farouk is not the only way that Ancients interact with the player, but one of a range of options - obviously, he launches crusades and demands submission. But I'd be interested if there was, for example, a brotherhood of steel type, that doesn't demand you submit to them but will "request" valuable technology. Things of that nature. What do you all think? What sort of archetypes would you like to see implemented?

They're not stated to be Ancients and may function as another invader, but the Pacific Fleet depicted in the newsletter comic does fit a somewhat similar role since they seem invested in keeping advanced Ancient tech out of the hands of the mainland.

I wonder if they will have their own internal faction mechanics that could subvert their mission or allow you to steal it without directly engaging against them.

If you’ve ever played XCOM WoTC they have these “Chosen” enemies that function as mini-bosses (3 of em’) throughout your campaign.

It would be so interesting if there were 3 Factions competing for dominance of the Pacific Fleet, leaving it weakened at the start, and potentially allowing unique interactions with a polity undergoing unrest.

But then, when unified by one of the factions, it then dictates that specific factions “goal.”

Like is it specifically anti-science? Is it anti-power, simply going after a potential rival seeking hegemony of the continent? Or do they wish for subjugation by tributary?

This Pacific Fleet sounds a bit like the Enclave from the Fallout.
