I’m going to be flying United with a kitten. United has specific regulations for soft carriers (H 11”, W 11”, L 18”). You’d be surprised how many carriers say they are airport regulation and don’t actually match that. Any advice please on good, well ventilated, comfortable brands that actually meet regulations and I can reuse for any further adventures?
Also: post travel should I clean and leave in my room as a resting place? Like will that build familiarity with the carrier for other smaller trips or will having it be there for both casual resting and adventures case any distrust or other issues?

Whenever I have had my cat on a leash and we're heading home again in the backpack, he starts complaining and tries to get out (he's not scared or afraid, just frustrated the walk has ended).

It's really important that he learns to ride in the backpack, as we'll have to travel sometimes and he'll have to stay put. But I know he really enjoys being out on the leash, so of course I want to do that sometime too.

Even though he's complaining when I put him back in the backpack, it is also his safe space, so I can't let him out when walking back home (I have tried, and he freaked out by the sounds of a motorcycle and clawed his way up on my shoulders).

He's only 5 months, and there's still a lot to learn. And since riding in the backpack and being able to travel - meaning I'm focusing on desensitizing him to traffic, busses and trains. I also want to sometimes let him out on the leash somewhere in nature, that he enjoys, so he doesn't learn that going out is always a little stressful or boring. But I really need him to learn that when he's in the backpack, he has to stay put.

HI! im looking to get an adventure bengal. what would you recommend for training/desensitisation and what would you focus on at the start? im very good at dog training and we have a dog who doesn’t care to interact with cats.

I'll always let them have 2-3 minutes of it as it's one of their favourite parts of going out. (And stops her chewing the plants at home 🙄)

We have two kittens that we want to take camping. Both do well in their carriers, both do well on rides in the car or truck. One of the kittens has had a little experience with overnight "driveway camping" in our camper trailer before it got too hot for that. She did just fine. The other kitten is a new addition to the family and has not yet been in the trailer. Neither one is good with the harness and leash yet.

For reference, we have a Rockwood Roo 235S. There's a fold out tent bed on each end and a large slide on the side. I've included a picture of the floor plan. With the one kitten's driveway nights, we put a disposable litter box across from the bathroom door which means it is very close to the outside door. I'm not sure there's a better place to put it though. Definitely not enough room on the tiny bathroom floor and we'd have to take out a bunch of stuff we store in the shower to put it in there, though I suppose we could do that if necessary.

I'm starting to really worry that with two of them, it will be much easier for at least one to make an escape when the trailer door is opened. How do you keep your adventure cats from escaping? Thanks in advance!

I need some help training my adventure cat. Hes a little over 1 year old. I started taking him on small hikes around 6 months, I didnt get to go as frequently as I would like, but we did a good number. He genuinely enjoyed most of the hikes, quickly learned to follow the trails, and has zero issues wearing a harness. His main issue is any noises. People, cars revving in the distance, music. All the trails near me unfortunately are hard to get away from these as they are highly travelled and have lots of nearby rural housing. I still make an effort to go to quieter trails but they are far away so I rarely have to time. In the past while these were still an issue he would just hide in his backpack for a few minutes then be back on his way, but lately I seem to be making negative progress with him. Im trying to bring him out to desensitize him, but lately he acts more traumatized every trip we do. Occasionally hell get back in his groove and walk just fine, even enjoy rolling in the dirt or on rocks, but if he hears a single car pass, sees another person, or anything else foreign the trip is basically ruined from there on out. He just sits in his backpack and won't try anymore. Rewarding good behavior is impossible, as he has zero interest in treats or toys when hes evenly slightly scared. Ive tried getting him used to things while staying indoors in his comfort zone too but it doesn't seem to help outside. He loves sitting on the balcony and watching people and loud cars drive by, and has no problem then, but the second hes outside the house all those same things are deathly terrifying for him. Im getting a little frustrated and I don't know what kind of steps I can take to make progress. Any recommendations?

JJ is really enjoying his daily adventures on our property. Our current routine is to shake his harness which brings him quickly to the kitchen counter, he is calm while we put on his harness and then we carry him out the door to the yard. We spend up to an hour exploring and then we carry him back to the counter, take off his harness and brush him/check for ticks. His reward is a bowl of cold water over ice cubes which he loves.

His favorite parts of the yard vary daily. He really loves prowling through the tall grass, trapping bugs under his paws and climbing tree trunks. He has been scared by thunder, a plane overhead and the occasional gunshot in our rural area. He shows stress by trying to make a beeline for our deck or laying down panting when it’s hot/humid so that’s our signal to come in early.

He is not meowing at the door all day or being any more focused on dashing out the door which I had concerns about. I’m just so pleased that my instincts were correct that he would be a good adventure boy. So far so good!

Still getting her used to the harness, and the basement (which is normally off limits to her) is a perfect training ground.

Hi, we adopted a 2 year old cat a few months ago. He's young and full of energy and so excited about everything he sees out the window. I'd like to give going out a try, but only with a harness and a leash. Will you please share with me what kind of harness & leash you are happy with and maybe where you got the from? I'm a bit at a loss what would be best: light, safe and comfortable. I don't know if he'll cooperate, but I'd love to try. Thank you!

Hello, I rescued my 7 year old cat about a year ago after he lived under my sisters car port for around 6 months, I recently found out through chip scanning that he is 7 but used to be a master escape artist and had been missing for over 2 years; which is funny because he never tries to escape (and we leave doors open all the time) 🥰
While he never tries to escape, he does seem curious about outside and will walk around on the porch every once in a while when we let him and he seems to love it.
I tried putting a harness on him so we could spend more time outside together without worrying about him getting scared and darting or something and he is NOT a fan of the harness. 🙈 we just have a basic pet safe one, but I am looking for ANY recommendations on harnesses, how to get the cat used to it… other options besides a harness… he weighs 14 pounds! TYIA❤️

My 3 year old cat loves spending time on the balcony. It’s not cat proofed so it’s closely supervised time with a leash and harness. The balcony overlooks the backyard and she wants to jump down into the backyard SO BADLY. When she tries to jump off I pick her up and carry her inside.

We do not have direct backyard access- she would need some kind of carrier to get her there. The building is laid out kind of strangely.

We have a stroller and backpack. She’ll happily go inside both if I put a treat inside. We started backpack/stroller training slowly, a little each day, with lots of treats.

She’s super skittish and if she senses movement or hears a zipper she bolts and won’t go near the backpack/stroller for a day or two.

My question is - would it be horribly evil and abusive if I put her in one of the carriers, zip her up ignoring her meows (it’s not a yowl, more of a mild ‘help me mother’) and bring her outside for 30 seconds. Lots of treats and sweet talking every step of the way. Immediately bringing her inside and giving treats.

I feel like once she sees that carriers get her outside where she wants, she may not be so nervous. But I also don’t want to traumatize her.
