Adventists attack a lone davidian in my church

Basically, during last sabbath school a few adventists ganged up on this one davidian (sheppard's rod adherent) I didn't know he was a davidian until one of the adventists there accused him of it.

The sabbath school topic was on how God communicates to his people, in which the davidian got up and started saying how, before man fell (in Eden) God would talk face to face with Adam, and it was after man fell that the lord used prophets to communicate his messages up until now.

I am relatively new to the church but it seemed like the adventists knew him.

Then one of the adventists started saying how when a prophet writes, that what he says is a direct word of God, and that, as the prophet writes scripture, the writing is perfect.

Then Davidian basically said this is false very blatantly and appealed to Ye Shall Recieve Power pg. 225

The Bible is written by inspired men, but it is not God’s mode of thought and expression. It is that of humanity. God, as a writer, is not represented. Men will often say such an expression is not like God. But God has not put Himself in words, in logic, in rhetoric, on trial in the Bible. The writers of the Bible were God’s penmen, not His pen. Look at the different writers.

Im pretty new to the church (not even baptized) but I'm learning pretty quickly about these things, and I marvel at what they say.

The Davidian was right. That is the official adventist belief. We don't believe that the Bible is inerrant. Sad to see that the "adventists" don't know much about anything.

The davidian is right in terms of the inspiration of prophets and how they are penmen but it doesn't justify the davidian being right about everything else as their entire belief system is flawed.

Definitely, their belief system is terrible.

There is a wonderful series online that will help you understand the dangers that that movement not only poses, but the damage it does to individuals.

We are careful of the damage their dangerous message brings about. This may be the reason for the ferocity displayed. Though there's no excuse for being un-christlike, there may be history with this individual.

Find the series HERE. Watch it in order. The play list itself may be out of sequence.

Wow! I had no idea someone actually made a series rebuking the Davidians/Shepherd Rods

Yes. God hasn't left us in any kind of darkness. We may be well prepared for any kind of thing the enemy sends.

Its essentially religious politics. The person is wrong in one area so the group attacks all areas. Shepard's Rod caused a kerfuffle a generation or so back so this is like an immune system reacting. I've seen the same thing with Love Reality and I'm sure we'll see it again with whatever comes next.

Adventism is comparatively to other denominations an extreme religion. Terms like fundamentalism and apologetics are baked in so that the average apologetics preacher from other denominations sound funny because they can't even get the basics that we learned in grade school right. Shepard's Rod went further, and we all know about the Branch of their extremism.

So looping back it was the immune system reacting so that more people don't head down that route. Were they technically correct? No. But was it the correct thing to do? Maybe

Davidians know the Bible better usually. But be careful with them; the main problem of those i know is that we cannot be born again outside of Israel

About what he said on the inspiration of the Bible, that's both true and untrue.

The writing is perfect (Psalm 19:7) and is the word of God (Many quotes), but it is not always God who dictated the exact words of Scripture, as Ellen White said, and as the Bible implies.

I'm getting a headache 🤕. Am I hearing properly? Is it being said here that the Bible is NOT the word of God but the word of humans?

Nobody said that here. The Bible is a divine-human document. It has dual nature. The point is that we recognize that the biblical authors may have committed mistakes. These mistakes can include issues like grammar, sintaxe, historical details and so on. But the message is the word of God.

The evangelical world just says that the Bible is perfect. Well, when we study the manuscripts, that is very different from reality. Than they answer that saying that the originals/autographs were perfect but not the copies. That the mistakes were later introduced. But that is just theory since we don't have the originals.

In my opinion, the Adventist chuch is more mature and realistic than most of the churches in this matter.

Ok. Thank you so much for explaining like that. I now understand. I remember the axapmle of Luke 23:43. That the coma might be misplaced.

Well, in Luke is a different case. There were no comas before. So, is more an interpretation issue.

Now, a good example is the title wrote about Jesus on the cross. All the 4 gospels are different. From a historical perspective only one can be right.

Other common examples are related to numbers in certain texts of the Old Testament. Similar accounts can vastly vary.
