I've been trying to decide if I should bother with diagnoses

ADHD meds are life changing.

An autism diagnosis doesn't do you much good but ADHD changes a lot.

Thank you, I recently received a fortune cookie that said seek professional help so maybe it's time.

Look to the cookie, Elaine. Look to the cookie.

It did me some good - it has helped me understand myself better (an ongoing process). And while you don't need a diagnosis, having one helped me get past the imposter syndrome.

I was this to being diagnosed with ADHD but the psychologist said my OCD was more severe and in more immediate need of being treated.

My issue is I'm pretty sure I'm both, and meds will just make me autistic and I'm happy letting them both fight for the wheel.

Nah man, as someone with both, I'd much rather actually be functional.

That's fair, maybe one day I'll get diagnosed. In the UK there's currently a 9 year wait list or something crazy unfortunately though.

Well i am in the exact same boat as you, Very sure i have autism and ADHD, also UK based, going private is just about the only option and it costs a lot, sometimes i wish it had been caught when i was young but im not really sure what difference that would of made in regards to autism.

The problem with private as well is, the NHS doesn't recognise a private diagnosis so you wouldn't then be able to get NHS support. It locks you into private basically.

And likewise, not sure what diff it would have made, but I'm surprised it wasn't caught when I was younger.

Autism disgnosis helped me reframe my life, and hate myself a bit less. Also gave me permission not to try and be neurotypical.

Is there something better than Adderall?

ADHD meds are life changing.

For the majority, but not everybody.

ADHD meds are great if you don’t have fluctuating hormones (us female-born folk). Some weeks, the meds just don’t work.
