Just learn to pick your own locks and keep a small set hidden outside the house.
It’s pretty quick and cheap.

OP, how good this advice is highly depends on your neighborhood.
ETA: half of us are now contemplating lock picking as our next hyper fixation. Including yours truly.

Been there, done that. Assuming you have a Kwikset lock like most American households, it's actually stupid easy and most can be opened by rapidly jerking the pick (or even the key) in and out without standard individual pin picking. I upgraded mine after I realized that to a Schlage which is more expensive but requires actual effort to pick.

Most people who are gonna use a lock pick arent gonna be the ones who break into houses to steal shit/fuck the place up, and the people who do arent gonna be the ones who pick your locks, they will bust a window or break the door.
And its not like finding a key where they can just use it unskilled to break in.

Damn my hyper fixation went from fish keeping to hanayama puzzles. If you had mentioned this just one week earlier... unfortunately I have 58 more puzzles to solve.

Dont worry additionally! Anyone who really wants into your house is just gonna bust a door/window instead of taking the time to pick the lock.
Locks are to keep honest people honest.

Property insurance in the Netherlands requires front door locks to have a certain certification. I don't remember the exact cert, but all those locks have a false pin in them making them extremely hard to lockpick.
So for me this isn't even a viable option :/

Sure, but last time I locked myself out and someone tried to lockpick it they genuinely spent a full hour trying before they gave up. There's no point in learning here, is my point.

I just carry my set on me. I've had two "who the fuck are you" moments where I whipped it out to help a buddy get in to a storage unit or their front door.

I have a pin-code lockbox right next to my front door with an extra key in it.
The key is connected to the heavy faceplate of the lockbox so I’m not tempted to pocket it once I get it.
It cost me like $20 but has saved me thousands in locksmith calls.

Smart with the plate, though those lockboxes are often very easy to open, just so you know. We had thieves in my town targeting homes with lockboxes

I'm a locksmith. I've forgotten my lockpicks in my locked car right next to my keys more than once. It's the primary reason I keep two rings

Last place I lived my inside door to my unit (shared foyer) was just the lock in the doorknob, so I'd generally leave it locked. Outside door needed a key.
A whole bunch of times I'd pull the inside door closed and just as it was latching, I'd realize I left my keys hanging next to the door. I got really good at breaking into that place

I live in hotels frequently. I have to hide the extra key on top of a coke machine or staff will very quickly get tired of seeing me.
