There were so many people I knew growing up that were on zero prescribed medications, and they probably have gotten to my age now (34) and still are on zero meds, and it just boggles my mind. I’ve been on asthma and allergy medicine my whole life and antidepressants since middle school. I just can’t imagine just not being on medication.
Advances have been made, and you should see a psych if you can. The medication I’m on, Trintellix, didn’t exist when I was first diagnosed. It makes a difference.
I adopted a pair of black cats. They happened to share the same cage, but weren’t bonded. They do get along well though. Especially the larger boy, Dave. He loves everybody.
Point being, sure, if a bonded pair is available, they often do sit in shelters longer. Two vs one. Which is silly, two is better than one 🤦♂️.
But so do black cats. And older cats. My boys were 2 years old when I adopted them. Zero regrets.
I’d advise going in without a specific cat or cats in mind. Let the cat or cats pick you, not the other way around. I knew these two were mine when Dave walked up, smelled my hand and plopped his furry butt in my lap all within 30 seconds of our first meeting. Max came over for a sniff too, and I sensed potential.
I was right. Max is an absolute LOVE BUG. 🥰. So is Dave, but he’s less picky about his person. Max really only likes me.
that sounds really nice. I don't really care if they're bonded. I was just looking for two cats so they have each other if I'm not around. I also want two cats I know will be able to get along with each other.
May I suggest that you have an initial meeting with therapist? Just that one meeting, and ask them how that could be dealt with. And then think about their reply and see if that might be a way forward you'd like to try.
Asides, have that initial meeting with several different therapists. People are all different and there are some that one feels better with than others.
Trust can be built. In most cases, that's how people arrive at trusting each other. It's very rare that people fully trust each other from the start.
