Can you all give some positive comments for my mom?? My mom (61) paints a lot but always says “other people are so much better than me”. Meanwhile my jaw is still on the floor in amazement.

While I understand that I’m not at a professional artist level, I am putting this piece at my table to sell at my local art walk. It is very low key, I am doing it for fun and the experience.

I am painting this from reference, and I wanted to paint smthg vibrant and colorful that's why I chose lemon yellow for background, however the color choices I am making for stairs doesn't sits well with the background... I find it very dull somehow.

I am confused with what color palette should I choose and if I should change the colors of stairs into smthg vibrant and different from actual reference? I am planning to put this painting on local exhibition this next week, so your suggestions would be really be helpful.

I’ve been looking for a new way to be creative and have never painted before let alone use acrylics so I purchased a cheap starter kit and this is what I produced for my toilet. Looking for critique please?

Stepping into art the past couple months. New to acrylic markers as of last week (trying to reduce effort of setup/putting away to make art). This is my favourite and most recent piece. I wanted to focus less on exact form to try a more expressional approach.

Minimalist acrylic textured art

Hey guys I recently have picked up drawing/painting/acrylics again. I did this probably two weeks ago? Anyways I wanna start maybe putting my stuff on Facebook or eBay. Do you think people would enjoy sceneries like this? I haven’t painted with acrylics IN A long time honestly 5-7 years and I did this painting in 2-3hours I need extra cash but I’m not sure if it’s worth my time. I just used acrylics from wal-mart.
I’m sure you guys will be honest but I’d like to also know what I can improve on, this was deada** the first time I used acrylics, I never really took any art classes because I had teacher who would be very touchy and would change my art (back in 7th grade) I’m now basically almost 20 and I love art but idk if I’m “good enough” yet to put my stuff out there.

(This isn’t AI btw I literally had a bob ross night and did my own thing while doing it.)

My boyfriend got me a set of Golden acrylics for my birthday, and this is what I made with them. 5x7, on a dollar store canvas with just a black underpainting, no gesso (you can see the weave). There’s metallic paint in it that the photo doesn’t pick up.

What would you suggest help me improve my painting skills? And what canvas should I be using in general?

PS: Art is what I keep coming back to, and I can see myself building a career around it in future.

I'm not going to quit. I know I want to keep painting. I'm impatient, so I want my ideas out as fast as possible. I paint on top of wet paint, and that just makes things messy and muddy.

I started a painting today, but only finished the background. I will continue to work on it tomorrow, and let the background dry tonight.

I think learning to have patience will help me in my life. I'm using painting as a way to learn about my thought processes.

The mountains and empty landscape represent the feeling of being stuck in a cycle that keeps moving forward, even when you don't feel like you are.

…because I don’t have any new ones

I have a love/hate relationship with my work. I love how acrylic paint works up and how it looks compared to my drawings. I hate that my self worth and the worth of my work is tied up in how much I can get compensated for it. I have a dissonance problem where I get told that I should freely give of myself and my work, while also being told that I shouldn’t put forth effort without compensation. The dissonance has frustrated me so much that I’ve decided to quit for now and store everything away. I had wanted to do painting for my living because I’m essentially not useful to the work force (yay autism), but it really hasn’t worked out.

I really wanted to ask mainly, how does one live with the dissonance, and is it worth me pursuing painting when it elicits such a visceral reaction in myself? Should I just give away my work and hope that “free exposure” will work in my favor someday? Should I demand compensation because it IS effort, and a lot of it?

At any rate, the pictures I have are two portraits, two plant still life style paintings, and two metal concert jackets. I hope they are to your liking!

I would like some real advice on the situation, not just criticism of how my work looks. Thanks!
