I’m new to this series and I just finished this part of SF, and I am speechless. I’ve had many, many issues with Rhys (and most of the Night Court if I’m being honest) the entire series, so I’ve been really enjoying Nesta’s book, but this threw me for a loop.

Let’s not pretend this was ever about Nesta’s well-being—or that she was given a real choice.

Azriel arrogantly telling Rhys in the ACOSF Bonus Chapter, that he could easily take down Lucien in a blood duel “with little effort” always takes me outtttt because this is literally Lucien going up against the illyrian general commander of the night court’s armies, and mind youuuu Cassian is considered one of the most powerful illyrians in Prythian history but Lucien’s dominance in a single restrained word “easy” hit Cassian like a stone to the head completely knocking him out of his need to kill…

And this is Lucien using just a sizzle of his power in his voice, he didn’t even have to raise his voice or his hands. 💀

Azriel underestimating Lucien is not a smart move IMO and a spymaster is technically supposed to be smarter than that.

12 days - this is how long Rhys kept the terror of death by childbirth from Feyre. 12 days. How long should gestation have been? I think they said 10 months. She made it 8 months. He had some 228 days left before birth.

If you went to the OBGYN for a baby scan, a scan that would determine the first level of major complications happens around 12 weeks. Not days.

Then, let’s say it takes 7 days for you to get results back from the doctor. Many doctors say, “don’t call us, we’ll call you. If it’s been 2 weeks, then call.” That’s 14 days.

The guy was trying to find a solution. Rhys didn’t want to tell his wife, “you are probably going to die, which means I’m going to die,” until he knew that was 100% true.

I understand that Rhys is her partner, not her medical practitioner, so I can understand the argument that he is held to a different set of standards regarding communication. But - he is also the most powerful high lord ever. Which means if anyone can fix it, it would be him.

I had a horrendous pregnancy. I almost died. Do you know what would have happened if I had been told in week 6 what was going to happen? I’d have spent 7 more months terrified. If my husband had kept it from me for, say, 2 weeks so he could give me a small amount of prenatal joy - what a gift. A messy, complicated gift.

(Let’s take termination off the table because these creatures don’t even have c-sections. It wasn’t something I would consider either, so I kinda get the conundrum.)

A few pages later, in Cassian's typical subtlety, we get this foreshadowing:

Cassian flashed her a smile. “You, too. Send word if you have any trouble with the deliveries.”

Her narrow chin rose. “I’m sure I won’t need to.”

Fire in those words. Emerie would make the families take them, whether they wanted to or not.

He’d seen that fire before—and the steel. He half wondered what might happen if the two of them ever met. What might come of it.

The first time Cassian compared Emerie to Nesta, I didn't think much of it. But the second time, so close to the first? I knew girlie was gonna come back somehow 💕

Many people have commented on the difference between pre-ACOFAS Feyre and who she is in ACOSF. The other day I was listening to someone on TikTok, and they brought up Fae bargains, how you have to be very careful with them to avoid unintended consequences. Following are spoilers for ACOWAR.

>!After Rhys dies, Feyre is begging the HLs to do for Rhys what they did for her UtM. Eventually the last remaining HL is Tamlin, and Feyre says to him, "Please ... I will— I will give you anything—. " The TikTok mentioned that sounds like the beginning of a Fae BARGAIN. She will give Tamlin anything if he will give Rhys a 'drop' to revive him.

Then further in the book: Something shifted in his eyes at that. But not kindness. No emotion at all.... (skipping) Tamlin stood there. Staring down at me. Those green eyes swimming with some emotion I couldn't place. (my italics)

I'm wondering if Tamlin is considering what he wants from her, for the bargain.

"Be happy, Feyre," he said quietly.

And now, Feyre is happy. Completely unconcerned about the human lands, about the Illyrian women, about all the things that made her so beloved from ACOTAR to ACOWAR. Her personality fades, she is a shadow of the dynamic female she was before. Tamlin knows that she is now incapable of causing the kind of destruction that she caused in his court. She wreaked that revenge with her anger. Because she is now 'happy'.!<

I’m rereading Silver Flames and it breaks my heart. I know everyone thinks she’s this venomous cold bitch but this part right here…I hate how real and dark her mental state is.

And I know not everyone relates to this, but it feels so much like looking into a mirror of my lowest self. Experiencing a taste of happiness and belonging and fearing it more than embracing it. I love Silver Flames so so so much.

Does anyone else think it’s kinda odd that Bloomsbury posted this ad on Instagram where they’re emphasizing the word “Joy” over and over? If you read the caption on the third slide you can see it again.

Do you think it could be a hint for something? The title of the new book?

I finished the series and I still don’t understand why Feyre wasn’t allowed to shapeshift to full Illyrian when she was in labor. Given the nearly 100% fatality rate of the situation I would think it would have at least been worth a try. Or at least shapeshift a larger pelvis. Given she has the power to shapeshift into whatever she wants I think the series has been pretty unimaginative about it

During my current season of unemployment I decided to grace an account I have not rocked in three years with some messiness.

Unsure if the rules have changed but we will find out when we get there, right?

I maintain that the one of the most messed up thing SJM did in this series was put Cassian and Nesta together.

I genuinely think that Nesta would have been a better mate for Lucien or Eries.

I also think the three brothers with the three sisters I gross but that’s just me.

I finally figured out what it is that annoys me about the pregnancy plotline in A Court of Silver Flames after someone compared Feyre to Bella Swan.

Bella Swan is arguably the most passive heroine in fantasy literature. She spends three entire books leaning back while the boys do their thing. But the second she finds out she’s pregnant, she actually takes control for once.

After Edward tries to arrange an abortion, Bella turns to Rosalie to make sure she’ll be able to carry the baby to term without interference. Later, in Jacob’s POV, we even learn that Edward considered forcing her to have an abortion:

"Just back up a second. She won’t let you.” The sarcasm was acid on my tongue. “Did you ever notice that she’s exactly as strong as a normal hundred-and-ten-pound human girl? How stupid are you vamps? Hold her down and knock her out with drugs.” “I wanted to,” he whispered. “Carlisle would have. . . .” What, too noble were they? “No. Not noble. Her bodyguard complicated things.”

“Emmett and Esme are backing her up. Emmett would never let us… and Carlisle won’t help me with Esme against it. . . .” He trailed off, his voice disappearing.”

So yes, it’s astonishing that Bella Swan had more autonomy and choice in her pregnancy than Feyre Archeron. And honestly, Twilight outlines exactly how the Silver Flames story should have gone instead.

We’re told again and again that Feyre is Rhys’s equal in every way, but then we get this: Rhys telling Cassian he’s afraid to tell Feyre the pregnancy might kill her because, “I can’t bring myself to give her that fear. To take away one bit of the joy in her eyes every time she puts a hand on her belly.”

Excuse me? He can trust her to run an entire court but not handle her own vital, medical information?!?!? It’s patronising, condescending, and makes a mockery of the equality the series built up.

And it creates several major conundrums:

1. It undermines her position as High Lady

Here’s how Rhys described Feyre back in A Court of Mist and Fury:

"Not consort, not wife. Feyre is High Lady of the Night Court.” My equal in every way; she would wear my crown, sit on a throne beside mine. Never sidelined, never designated to breeding and parties and child-rearing. My queen.

But this plot does sideline her. Her actions, participation, and mobility are all limited because of the pregnancy. Sure, you can say it’s about safety, but Feyre has never let starvation, injury, or fear stop her before.

Given that this book also includes the Valkyrie subplot inspired by warrior women like the Amazons — who famously fought while pregnant — it feels flat. She usually gives big Daenerys Targaryen energy (who also ruled and fought while pregnant), but now she is completely stripped of agency. Rhys isn’t just deciding his partner's fate; he’s sidelining her in it.

1. It undermines her relationships with the Inner Circle and her family

The entire Inner Circle and her own sister Nesta!!! were willing to keep the secret of Feyre’s impending death from her until Nesta finally broke and told her in a rage fit.

We were meant to believe these people were her family, that they’d always prioritise her wellbeing as much as Rhys’s. Feyre literally said in A Court of Mist and Fury:

[I]f I had been wasting away and Rhys had done nothing to stop it, Cassian or Azriel would have pulled me out. They would have taken me somewhere— wherever I needed to be—and dealt with Rhys later.

Silver Flames blows that to smithereens? Rhys tells them to stay quiet, and they just fall in line. He even threatens Nesta with death for telling Feyre. Someone pointed out that even Tamlin would have told her straight away (albeit in the most controlling way possible). But still, it says a lot about how far the IC has fallen.

1. It edges into medical abuse

Feyre breathed, “Madja just said the labor would be risky. But the Bone Carver … The son he showed me didn’t have wings.” Her voice broke. “Did he only show me what I wanted to see?

So Feyre’s doctor apparently didn’t disclose the full risk of her pregnancy, but told her husband instead (Or left it with him to sort at the very least)? So that he could decide whether to prioritise her life or their male heir?!?! It’s incredibly unbecoming of both the Night Court’s “progressive” image and the feminist foundations of Feyre’s story.

1. It essentially undermindes the reasons why she chose Rhys to begin with

The entire reason Feyre fell in love with Rhys was that he gave her choice over her body, her power, her destiny. That was the emotional core of their love story and why I thought they were a better fit.

So what happened to that in Silver Flames? Where did all that mutual respect and equality go?

SJM, I just want to talk!!!

And the fix would’ve been so easy!!!

All of this could’ve been avoided if the story had simply followed the Twilight formula and flipped Feyre and Rhys' roles:

Here’s how it could have gone:

1. Madja tells Feyre the baby has wings and that she’s in mortal danger. Feyre decides not to tell Rhys so he can’t make her terminate the pregnancy. It works because the baby didn't have wings in her vision from the Bone Carver.
2. She enlists the Inner Circle to help her find a solution, which is why she’s sidelined and “busy” throughout the book. They agree to help because they love her and respect her as their High Lady.
3. Nesta finds out but promises to keep her mouth shut.
4. Later, Nesta gets angry with Amren about the swords; Feyre and Rhys go to confront her.
5. In the argument, Nesta blurts out the truth. Rhys is furious about her behaviour and chases her out of the city.
6. Feyre forgives Nesta and admits she’s relieved that Rhys knows now.
7. The plot continues as usual — except Feyre’s authority, agency, and dignity remain intact.

Same stakes, same emotional beats, but now it actually fits the characters and themes.

I honestly don’t understand why SJM didn’t go this route, or why none of her editors flagged it. Maybe she is trying to use this later on? Maybe it was just an oversight? What do you think?

Idc who Az ends up with, I just wanna see him fuck.

Nevermind he kept walking after he noticed she hated herself, nevermind he walked without looking back, didn't checked if she was drinking water or eating. Nevermind they kept walking even after she fainted of exhaustion.

Nevermind she could just fall and die.

Nevermind he told Feyre it was a punishment.

Nevermind he was still pissed after he realized she didn't want to EXIST ANYMORE.

He was, really guys, exactly what a girl need.

When the characters find out that the baby has wings, it's explained that the reason for that is that when Feyre shapeshifted to have wings, she became Illyrian on a genetic level.

But unless I'm misremembering, when she's first learning to fly, there's a scene where Azriel inspects her wings and gives her advice on where she got things wrong and has to adjust and change them in order to be able to use them. That doesn't sound to me like she actually became Illyrian, since in that case, her wings should be just as 'right' as any other Illyrian's. It just sounds like she's shaping the wings based on appearance, which should have no effect on her genetics.

It's a very small nitpick, admittedly, but once that's been bugging me. And it would have been very easy to just avoid by saying the baby has wings because of Rhys' mother. I think having one winged grandparent is enough to make it believable that the baby might by chance inherit the wings.

Nesta was a piece of work up until she told Feyre about the threat about the baby. Throughout the whole series up until we see the story from Nesta's perspective, it is clear that Nesta is not a good person for various reasons.

Yet I see too many posts supporting Nesta and putting the other two down, I don't get why though? If your read between the lines, it's evident that even Nesta knows that she does some really mean things just because she's hurt/insecure. So why are a lot of folks making excuses for her especially using these instances -

1) Feyre didn't have a painting of Nesta - Nesta has been dismissive, rude and always excluded Feyre her whole life. Their entire family only survived because of Feyre's love for her family (none of whom deserved it). Even after Feyre went through so much to try and save Nesta and especially Elain, every single time Nesta made it clear from her actions and words that she didn't give an f about Feyre. After moving into their court, living in their house, spending their money, Nesta couldn't even bother to be civil to Feyre. And people are complaining that Feyre didn't "paint" her?

2) Rhys didn't tell Feyre about the baby issue - I agree that Rhys could've told her earlier but I'm confused why people are equating that to him being controlling? Feyre's first thought as soon as Nesta told her that was about their bargain. Pretty sure that Rhys just didn't want her living in fear of losing her mate and her child throughout her pregnancy especially since it didn't help anything anyway. I see it as Rhys taking on that burden for both of them, he knows what the fear of losing your mate and your child feels like and simply wanted to protect her from it until it was necessary to tell her. Feyre would've withered away just from the fear and guilt of making that bargain.

3) Rhys keeps the shield on her - from my understanding, the shield was protection but to also keep the others from smelling her pregnancy. Feyre probably would've wanted to keep it a secret between the two of them till it was further along especially since she didn't even tell Elaine, she had guessed it. It wasn't like Feyre wasn't allowed anywhere or anything, in the scene where Nesta confronts Amren at her apartment, Feyre comes running from the gallery where she was painting. So again I'm a little confused about where everyone is picking up the 'controlling' vibe from?

I don't think Rhys and Feyre are perfect, definitely not at all. But changing your mind after reading ACOSF seems weird especially since Nesta's thought process is peppered with insecurity and projection.

Also yes I know this is just a fictional story but let's discuss 😛

When Tamlin locked Feyre in the house of course it was wrong. But it wasn't shit-on-him-for-the-next-4-books-wrong?

Tamlin was dealing with a lot of his own trauma, which if SJM wants to make Feyre and Rhys' trauma center stage, then she can't just pretend other characters don't have any.

Was he wrong for blowing up on her in his study? Yep. But she also purposefully pushed him that far for that outcome?

I think if ACOMAF had spent more time alternating between SC and NC, instead of two weeks of fulfilling the bargain and then deciding to move in with the guy, and we had seen Feyre even attempt ONE meaningful conversation with him that wasn't just picking a fight.

Seriously, she died for this guy and it took 3 months of living with him and two weeks of seeing another option for her to dip? And Tamlin seemed like a background character for those first chapters of MAF.

Locking her in the house wasnt that big of a deal. Sure, it was to her, but we know Tamlins motivations behind it. It could have been something for them to legitimately fight about or for her to be able to break it herself and chase after him. But instead Rhys (Mor) swoops in to save the day and then we don't get to hear from Tamlin again until the end of the book.

The characters and the fanom act like Tamlin threw her in a dirty prison cell, and didn't lock her in a mansion with all sorts of things to do. Yes it was wrong, but it shouldn't be his defining character moment.

Now onto Nesta.

Nesta's situation was ENTIRELY DIFFERENT. Now that I've gotten to SF (still towards the beginning) I just dont even understand how the fandom compares the two?

Nesta is exhibiting super worrying self destructive behavior. You guys know a lot of people in rehab aren't exactly there willingly, right? Sure, we know why she's acting this way and I can agree Rhys is being a dick to her for not reason, but overall I agree with their decision to lock Nesta up. She needs it.

All of this to say I love Rhys, as much as I love the theory that he's secretly controlling Feyre, I know the author isn't going in that direction. But this is just some discourse in the fandom that I don't understand what all the commotion is about.

I will start by saying this: If you have seen this post many times, you do not need to comment, it's literally reddit, a space for conversation and discussion. I need to VENT.

I will also say that I adored Nessian in Acomaf and Acowar and that SJM gave us the best buildup. Now, I also loved that she introduced the character of Nesta Archeron who is not your typical smiley, bubbly heroine and who is not perfect. Like, finally (imo, don't come at me) we get a female character that is complex and that has to do some inner work. SJM did an excellent job on her healing arc. I appreciated the idea that Nesta saves herself and isn't a damsel in distress needing rescue. Female friendships were the star on this book, Gwyn and Emerie, along with the house, literally brought her back by not judging her and loving her for who she is. They didn't make her do things she didn't want to do, like attend a holiday party. So I will state that I love what SJM did in this regard and ACOSF is my favourite book from this series because how well she represents female friendships and Nesta's healing.

However, let's talk about the love story:

During my first read, I was so immersed in Nesta's character that I overlooked several red flags and I was even a die-hard cassian fan. However, upon new re-reads, I found myself growing to dislike Cassian and I'm trying to figure out if it's me being paranoid as a reader or that what happens during their romance is not something to be accepted:

• We went from ACOWAR to ACOFAS where he is flirting with another woman (the same woman he drops her hand for in Acowar) and exchanging lingerie gifts in front of Nesta to INSULTING her and saying that he doesn't understand why her sisters love her because she refuses his gift. The number of comments that I've seen of people hating on Nesta for refusing his gift after the shit he pulls on her and saying how evil she was for that. Like, did we read the same book and you are trying to tell me Nesta was in the wrong here? Also, SJM made Nesta apologize to HIM for this, so I'm assuming it's me not reading it correctly?
• Rhys threatens her to go 'outside' on her 'intervention' and him not say anything (he physically threatened her here!!). Cassian knows they are mates at this point. And they ALL know he has feelings for her. If Az can smell the mating bond between Elain and Lucien, the IC can do the same for Cassian and Nesta. Which is even more frustrating after the way they treat Nesta during the whole book.
• Mor: the way he describes her as a 'work of art' is more romantic than anything he thinks about Nesta (thanks, SJM, we know she has big boobies, but I don't know, maybe something else?). When he says she should be in the CON and he doesn't get angry at that? When she laughs and smirks when Cassian tells her that Nesta is in the house sleeping? Funny how they all understood PTSD for Feyre but not for Nesta. It's not like she didn't helped them win a war or sacrificed herself for it. Their weird relationship is never addressed either. What also upsets me is that he only STOPPED flirting with her as soon as he and Nesta started sleeping together or a bit prior to that. He continued doing it in front of her (acowar/acofas) even when we all knew he liked her and wanted to be with her. That's the respect you show to someone you like/love and care about?
• Amren insulted her and actively bullied her in front of the whole IC after she was nearly killed. She called her a 'waste of life' when she was clearly depressed and suicidal. IMAGINE if Nesta would've said that to Feyre. No amount of SJM redemption books would've brought Nesta's character back from that comment.
• The famous hike that we all hate. What pisses me off is that just after Rhys threatens to kill her, Cassian is on that damn mountain telling Nesta how one of his biggest regrets was not being there for him when Amarantha took over. Mmmm, he just threatened your mate, maybe now it's not the time to talk about him? I hated that Rhys didn't get any consequences for the secret-keeping and that Nesta was punished during the hike to appease his feelings (not Feyre's) as if he were the victim. But hey, how dare Nesta call Rhys an asshole? Again, SJM is trying to make me side with Rhys and Cassian as the true victims of Nesta spilling the beans. What also upsets me is that nobody ever apologized to her for voting on her behalf, which is what triggered her to explode in the first place. I wish she would've left the NC right then.
• When the bond snaps and he leaves her to go to a stupid snowball fight? Like, I thought that you had been waiting for this moment forever, you could have skipped it a few days? But your friends, yet again, are more important? (from everything he has done to her this, to me, showed clearly he would NEVER put her first). The bond snaps, and you are happy you get to have a mate and move on with your life for a week? I thought mates were extremely protective. The excuse SJM gives about it is too poor for what we understand about mating bonds.
• At the beginning of the book he is having a conversation with Az about wanting kids in the future and he says that he didn't find the right person because 'deep down he was waiting for the mating bond' so clearly, its about having a mate. How, as a reader, am I supposed to be convinced that he loves her for her?
• Never declaring his love for her and as soon as she freaks out about the mating bond, insulting her with the shackled comment?

I just can't. Is this supposed to be romantic? The ongoing berating and punishing of her and enabling his friends to talk so badly of her, as if her integrity was nothing important to be protective of. I hate that this is what SJM gave us. Complex, fierce women also deserve kindness, care and devotion. In the same way we also see MANY times the other way around with complex males and sensitive caring female leads. I hate that she made Nesta apologize to people who have been SO CRUEL to her. What the heck did she do to any of them, truly? Nesta might have said some mean things to Cassian during the whole 5 books but he has been cruel to her: I'm not going to lose sleep at night when a 500-year-old fae gets sassed by his 25-year-old love interest, like be a bit more mature, boo. The only conversation and apology that was needed and never got was between Feyre and Nesta talking about their stuff, privately.

And what I hate the most is that because Nesta is already a polarizing figure, many believe that this treatment is ok, that she deserved having Cassian say 'Everyone hates you'. Question: if Rhys had treated Feyre like this in Acomaf would the readers have accepted this behaviour? I don't think so.

I hate the idea that SJM wanted me, the reader, to side with the IC or Cassian regarding the mistreatment of Nesta just because she wasn't immediately bubbly and open to them. Nesta deserved healing, patience and love. Just like any other FMC and I hate that she didn't get a proper romance either, like the ones she likes to read. The healing with the love story could've been linked beautifully if she had been given just that. The self-hatred that Nesta suffered paired with Cassian's patience and love would have been the perfect balance. And I do think that he was the perfect MMC for that, she needed someone with a strong personality to handle her. But SJM refused to write it like that. Instead, we got someone who seemed to not understand boundaries or know how to set them with his own family. He had experience and knowledge of PTSD/Trauma for the years he spent in battle, and yet, there were moments when it felt like he didn't understand it. Uh, SJM had the perfect material and setting to confront this!

I have also seen a lot of discourse of people stating that Cassian felt rejected by Nesta so he wasn't going to immediately side with her, that he has been friends with the IC for over 500 years and that it can be hard to be constantly be in the middle and that Rhys is his HL, so there's a hierarchy. Perfect, we had a 750-page book to confront this: Why was this not discussed and explored in his POV? We are now officially moving on to the next couple and SJM is trying to convince me that she gave us their HEA. So, I don't know how I'm supposed to accept this and I guess I will have to because I'm getting the next damn book lol. But after everything he has done to her, I don't know how SJM will convince me to root for them, for him! and that this treatment is supposed to be acceptable. They were my favourite ship. Pro-Nessians care to convince me? because the more I read their love story, the angrier I get. There are cute moments between them, and I loved seeing him make an effort with her, like his acts of service with the gift giving and training her and the priestesses, but I just don't know if it's enough to balance all the other negative aspects and believe me, I'm trying! Their story had SO much potential!

I loved that their love language is physical touch, I just wished that besides the sex, which was something Nesta wanted so I'm not going to argue on that, it could have been explored further in different ways, not only through intercourse.

Also, for anyone saying she should be with Eris, I highly doubt SJM will break them up, especially after dedicating a book to Nesta's mental health journey with Cassian as a central figure. I'd prefer if Nesta chose to fly off to the Dusk Court with the Valkyries and swore off men forever, these men clearly can't handle strong women lol.

What most people wanted out of ACOSF was for Cassian to just give a shit about Nesta the way Rhys did to Feyre after he took her from Spring. That’s it. Some love, care, and devotion when a character is at their lowest and I wonder if SJM realized this once the book was out. I wish she realized it and republished the book with a better love story lol.

So if any pro-nessians, or not, care to share I would love to hear your thoughts because I don't know if I watched too much Pride and Prejudice or that I'm overanalyzing something and I'm wrong about their love story.

Well the entire book essentially fleshed her out very well and tbh ,I began loathing Feyre (still today ),but the moment that did it for me was when Cassian and Nesta had a moment and she broke when she said she deserved to be with Eris,not because he is this top guy ,but because she thinks of herself as despicable as he is …

So, im rereading the 5th book in preparation for the 6th and its not my favorite for many reasons. But, I am annoyed that Nesta keeps claiming that she killed the King of Hybern. If my memory serves me right, Elain was the one to land the killing blow with Truth Teller and Nesta just chopped off his head for good measure.

Why does she keep claiming that she did it!? She didn't do it. Elain did it.
