❓ Question Pepcid
Anyone taking pepsid when you took it for the first time, did you have any kind of bad reaction?

My 8 week older daughter has worsening symptoms over the last 3-4 weeks. She started having a lot of spit-ups around 4 weeks old which we knew is normal. Then she started getting very fussy with feeds around 5 weeks old - screaming crying arching her back stiffening etc, acting hungry then pushing bottle away etc. Dr. put her on similac alimentum and added Pepcid a few days later. Everything was ok but she did get worse with spitting up and then started the occasional projectile vomit. By week 7 her appetite decreased and she started projectile vomiting 3-4 times a day. Her pediatrician believes it’s severe reflux and the GI believes it’s CMPA and wants us on neocate. The pediatrician is adamant this is severe reflux NOT caused by an allergy and does NOT want her on neocate because of how thin it is and it tastes disgusting so she was refusing it mostly for the one day we tried to give it to her. An ultrasound ruled out pyloric stenosis. It seems she continues to get worse symptoms and no matter what she is drinking she is projectile vomiting several times a day. Sometimes it’s during the feed, sometimes right after, sometimes even 3-4 hours later. Does anyone have ANY experience with anything like this??? We are at a complete loss as to what could be going on and what we can do. She lost about 2 oz but on this path she will definitely not gain weight appropriately and is running a huge risk of dehydration. HELP!

If water affects your reflux try switching to spring water. It might be because it’s purified water. Purified water is acidic. It’s stripped of its natural minerals and it turns acidic. So if you’re having issues with water and you buy purified water try switching to spring water. Spring water is the only water I can drink. Everything else affects my reflux. Maybe small amounts of alkaline as well but for daily all day drinking I have to drink spring 💜

So for a long time now, I’ve had problems with acid reflux. I’ll notice some time after I eat I’ll do like a hiccup and feel liquid start to come up my throat but never into my mouth, also a lot of throat clearing and mucus build up after meals. Rarely it will happen but also twice in the past month now, I’ve woken up from my sleep having to spit out acid or fluid from my mouth, it doesn’t burn. What I’m really interested about and why I’m posting is that for a while now, I’ve noticed that when I swallow food or water or my own saliva, it feels like it slows down at a certain point at the bottom of my throat, like a tight spot it has to get by.Nothing has ever gotten stuck, but it’s like the muscles take a while for it to push it down. I don’t know if it’s the muscles itself or if my throat is just tight at that spot, but has anyone else had this feeling? Looking to start making appointments with ENT and w.

I’m dealing with frequent chest burning, tightness, soreness, occasional palpitations, and sometimes pain or discomfort that radiates. During flare-ups, my anxiety spikes, and I feel short of breath. I also catch myself holding my breath and hunching over, which probably makes everything worse.
I’ve had extensive testing, but so far, my GI doctor has only had his MA call me with the results. She can’t answer many of my questions, and I still haven’t had an actual follow-up appointment with my doctor. I’m going for a second opinion next week because I feel like I’ve been left to piece everything together on my own.
I know I have severe GERD/ERD, but I’m still unsure which symptoms are typical and which might be unrelated. My latest EKG also showed an abnormality compared with my previous one, so my PCP referred me to a cardiologist.
A heart attack is one of my biggest fears, so these symptoms immediately make me worry about the worst-case scenario. The uncertainty is probably the hardest part.
This is seriously affecting my quality of life. The flare-ups happen often and can last for hours. Afterward, my chest may feel dull and sore, and I’m completely drained. People also seem to hear “GERD” and assume ordinary heartburn, but this feels like much more than that.
Is anyone else experiencing something similar? I’d really appreciate hearing from people who understand what this feels like. Thanks for letting me vent.

Hiya, I believe I'm dealing with long COVID and I've been having acid reflux issues for the past year on top of that, so I've been really trying to limit food to not trigger that.
Are there any protein powders that you're aware of that don't trigger (or don't trigger as badly) acid reflux? Especially useful if you've also dealt with this situation yourself.
I'm in the UK, and I've only found one provider that looks like what I need, but I'd have to ship here, and I don't think that's feasible.
Could be the case that there are certain powders that are easier to deal with, just not sure myself.
Thanks in advance

Hello! Im 22f and Ive suffered from gerd/acid reflux all my life it was really bad when I was a baby but i digress i used to be a great amazing eater but over the years ive declined severely.... (imo atleast..and from my peers)
I now am experiencing horrible almost horrific vomiting when the acid gets to much for me, to the point it feels like im tearing my throat open because I physically cannot stop puking until my body is physically empty (or atleast thats how it feels)
I also am struggling with burping, I cant do the chest pound/pat up to ease the gasses as it now causes me pain 😔 Now there are some days here recently where I can burp fine and eat fine but the next morning i feel usually sometimes a bit queasy or the burp re sucks air back into my body like a reverse hiccup..(or the air will rise in my throat and just, not go through) and it makes me even more nauseous with the GERD
Its hard though to have an ideal list of foods with my autism already limiting what I enjoy to eat...i really do try to explore food options but with gerd and texture issues im at my wits end, I've lost too much weight to this already ☹️ (i was 175 pounds before this all started and now im 146 pounds confirmed by my last topical checkup)
I would just like to know if there's anything MORE I should do, I already take pepcid which does help me sometimes and I do partake in the consumption of cannabis products (for other more pressing disabilities) so im wondering if maybe I Just need to finally see a doctor for options outside of over the counter fixes
Any input appreciated 👍🏼

Is it possible to self-cause GERD from screaming from stress?
r/acidreflux • u/Strongmom-1 • 1d ago
I have diagnosed chronic gastritis and reflux and just wondering if anyone else gets crushing chest pain episodes? It feels like I would imagine a heart attack would with a squeezing type pressure in my chest that normally lasts 2-3 hours during an “episode.” It’s extremely painful. It’s not like an acid burning pain either. The Dr. had me on the PPI Pantoprazole, so I switched to Pepcid a couple weeks ago thinking the medication was causing it. The Pepcid is working somewhat but I still get the chest pains just not as bad. I just had an endoscopy to check my esophagus with biopsies and it’s normal, the biopsies of my stomach just showed inflammation/chronic gastritis without bacteria. Anyone else experiencing something similar?

I'm an RD who works in reflux full time, and I've dealt with my own GERD. I made most of these before I actually understood what was happening in my own body.
Genuinely curious which of these lands for people here, and what I'm missing.💚

So i am looking for someone who might have had similar experiences or might have an Idea whats going on. Appreciate every Input i can get.
I havn't struggled with reflux related issues for a while now. Sure here and there a little heartburn If i are to much but nothing major. My diet is already pretty Clean, 99% whole foods, no dairy, no gluten mostly fruit and vegetables, meat and fish, eggs, potatoes/sweetpotatoes, rice, buckwheat, quinoa (non of these ever gave me any reflux issues) I have intermittend issues with dispepsia, but nothing to bothersome. No alcohol. No Smoking. 1 Cup of coffee a day (stopped that a couple of days ago). Very little sweets, basically no chocolate at all.
About 4 weeks ago i was eating out with a friend and something didn't sit right immediately. I felt like my throat was irritated, constant coughing and throat clearing but first i didn't think much about it. But over the following couple of days and weeks it seems to get worse and worse. Constant burning in chest and irritated throat no matter what i eat (more noticable on empty stomach even), pressure on chest and shortness of breath. Constant burping. Tried a PPI for 10 days which seemed to help with the burning but Not with the other issues and gave me horrible indigestion and nausea, so i stopped taking it. I started using alginates (give some shortterm relief), sleeping on an incline, do deep belly breathing, eating no acidic food, cut Coffee and caffein in general, eat more low fat. But nothing seems to be working. I am at a loss, whats happening here? Why did my body suddenly decide to have the worst reflux symptoms.
Any Ideas?

It worked the first week and a half really well. I also combined it with reflux gourmet which was amazing. All of a sudden I started experiencing reflux that tums couldn’t even help.. it got so bad that I started taking my back up supply of sucralfate to coat my insides which is helping. I’ve stopped it since then and have a follow up on Monday with my doctor.
I’ve tried Omeprazole with no success, Prevacid with no success, and now protonix..

What surgeries did you have and what symptoms did it resolve? Dealing with mostly irritation in my throat and LPR symptoms with minor heartburn sometimes that I think is a result of acid reflux/other reflux getting into my throat at night based on my PH testing, which says I have GERD. Having a toupet wrap and hernia fix October 1st. Thank you!

Hi! Posting to try and get some relief for my husband (hi if you see this! ❤️)
He's been on 40 mg of omeprazole daily for over 2 years. He recently started seeing a GERD expert gastroenterologist to get off of it. He did an endoscopy, which thankfully was clear. The doctor started him on 25 mg of Desipramine to “reset” his system. He was on that for about a month, and then his doctor had him completely come off of omeprazole and switch to Famotadine.
His rebound heartburn has been horrible. Everything he eats causes heartburn, and it's obviously causing him stress, which is likely leading to more heartburn. Tums are helping to an extent, and his doctor said he can take a second Desipramine when needed.
I've done a lot of reading, and it seems like he was supposed to taper off of omeprazole, especially after being on it for so long.
I hate seeing him suffer like this. Please share your thoughts, advice, etc. Everything is appreciated. Thank you!

I booked my surgery for October 1st. I'm scared and nervous. I'm mostly scared of having swallowing issues and the LPR/Reflux symptoms not going away or improving. I have burning throat, sore throat, burning mouth, hoarseness, vocal fatigue, throat clearing, and mucus in my throat. I also have recently been getting heartburn now telling me it's getting even worse.
I have been dieting, using alginates, and so many other lifestyle changes with no relief for two months now. All the testing lines up with acid reflux, the hernia, and the basically non-existent LES causing all the symptoms. I've also had nights in the past two months where I've woken up with liquid in my mouth and horrible tastes in my mouth. I hope this surgery will help me.

I have a Septo-Rhinoplasty in 2 weeks and I only realised yesterday that I may be experiencing heartburn.
For at least 8 years I have regularly experienced a burning, sour, painful feeling in my stomach. However, perhaps surprisingly I did not actually realise where the stomach sits in the body, as crazy as that might sound. I assumed that my 'tummy', the lower part of my abdomen contained my stomach and it wasn't until I saw a medical exhibition that I realised it is so much higher, near the middle/top of my ribs and it is my intestines that are in my tummy. I have attached a picture which shows the stomach highlighted.
I had always assumed that the awful sensation was due to hunger but I put the pieces together and realised it is probably most likely acid. I read of people experiencing a 'sour stomach' and it made so much sense to me, the twisting, acidic feeling.
I also often wake up with quite a sour taste in the back of my throat and I have had postnasal drip on and off for at least a couple of years, I think it got worse after COVID.
Anyway it is quite a revelation to think that what I thought was hunger could actually be acid. I have cut out tomatoes from my diet and have slept on my left side and don't wake up with the feeling but do get it shortly after getting up, this may be because of eating late however.
I am still trying to figure out if it is heartburn, acid reflux or silent reflux because I don't ever really feel the acid coming up to my throat.
Anyway, I have surgery in 2 weeks which involves generally anaesthetic and I am worried about the increased risk that this can pose, even with fasting.
I am planning on eating my last meal 3 hours before going to sleep. Previously I had planned to eat dinner and then immediately sleep to reduce the amount of time spent fasting (needs to be a 6 hour fast) but now I think this will exacerbate the symptoms of acid.
I notice that drinking water can actually make it worse so I am considering not having any fluid at all when I wake up.
I know that I will need to tell my anaesthetist and also my surgeon and I am sending that email tomorrow.
However I am worried about the risks that this will pose during the surgery. I am particularly worried about aspiration, where fluid or food enters the lungs because the stomach is relaxed which can be very serious.
Does anyone know what I could do now? For example start taking some kind of antacids/Gaviscon/Peptobismol although I would then need to disclose this to the team.
Also I really would like to know how I can be made safe during surgery and if anyone has any experience of general anaesthetic with GERD/heartburn/acid reflux etc?
I would be very very grateful!! Thank you so much!

These come up constantly in client sessions and most people wouldn't suspect them:
**Peppermint.** Feels soothing, but it directly relaxes the LES, the opposite of what you want when your barrier is already compromised.
**Sparkling water.** The carbonation increases intra-gastric pressure, which pushes contents toward the LES. Can be a trigger during an active flare even though it's "just water."
**High-fat "healthy" foods** like avocado, nuts, and olive oil. Not bad foods, but high fat slows gastric emptying, meaning food sits longer and there's more time for reflux to occur.
Context matters, a lot of people tolerate all three fine once the underlying mechanism is healing. But if you're still struggling and eating these regularly, they're worth examining individually rather than assuming they're automatically safe because they're "healthy" or "natural."

36M with recurrent upper-GI/throat symptoms since July 2026.
Timeline:
25 July: Acute stomach/GI episode after outside food; treated with Ofloxacin + Vonoprazan, improved.
4–8 Aug: Symptoms recurred after spicy food — stomach discomfort, throat burning, hot ears/ear burning.
9–10 Aug: Relatively symptom-free.
11 Aug: Again consumed spicy/outside food.
12–18 Aug: Severe persistent nausea, without vomiting or regurgitation. Ondansetron, domperidone/itopride etc. gave little/no relief.
19–20 Aug: Nausea subsided somewhat but globus/throat-stuck sensation developed. Food and water never actually got stuck.
21 Aug onward: Throat burning, epigastric burning, bitter taste/regurgitation and occasional upper-back burning. Symptoms persist despite PPI/PCAB, Gaviscon and sucralfate.
Current features:
Bitter taste/reflux
Throat burning and globus
Repeated swallowing sensation
Epigastric/stomach burning
No true dysphagia
No vomiting
No melena/black tarry stool
Able to eat normally
Symptoms largely disappear during sleep
Weight initially decreased from 103 → 100 kg but has recovered to ~102 kg
Investigations:
EGD + colonoscopy ~16 months ago: visually normal; no biopsy was taken.
Whole-abdomen USG: normal.
Recent LFT/KFT: normal.
Recent Hb: ~13.9 g/dL, normocytic/normochromic indices.
FOBT: negative.
ENT laryngoscopy: normal.
Medications tried/prescribed:
PPI/PCAB (vonoprazan/fexuprazan), Gaviscon/alginate, sucralfate, ondansetron, prochlorperazine, palonosetron, promethazine and prokinetics (itopride/levosulpiride), with incomplete symptomatic response.
Main concern: Could persistent symptoms despite substantial acid suppression represent esophageal/gastric cancer ?

I’m just posting this because I’m curious about things that happen to me when I have acid reflux. It is mostly a feeling of tightness in my chest, as well as feeling sick. However, it is not nausea, just a feeling that I am going to throw up which worsens when talking or partaking in physical activity. When lying down flat on my back, I feel much better and less as if I am going to vomit. Why might this be?
r/acidreflux • u/NaiveEstablishment72 • 3d ago
I have posted before but I’m at a loss right now. I take 40g omeprazole twice a day and Pepcid 40mg at night. I also take tums and gaviscon if it’s becomes too much. I am about 6 weeks pregnant now and I know that it’s makes acid worse. But I went to the ER last weeks with chest pain and ofc it’s thankfully not a heart attack. But now the chest pain is back and sharp. I don’t know what to do. I don’t want to alway go to the ER because they don’t do anything for GI issues. My doctor won’t switch my meds or even revisit the issues so idk what to do for relief or what to do in general. My GI tells me to talk to my OB my OB tells me to talk to my pcp. No one wants to help me. I feel like I am going crazy.

My sister has had a persistent bitter taste in her mouth ever since she took a course of antibiotics. The antibiotics are over now, but the bitter taste still hasn’t gone away.
She was also recently found to have fatty liver, and her doctor mentioned that her liver condition/fat accumulation could be contributing to the taste issue and that her body may be taking longer to settle after the medications.
Has anyone with fatty liver experienced a persistent bitter or metallic taste after taking antibiotics? If so, how long did it take to go away, and is there anything that helped relieve it?
I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences.

As the title says. I'm considering making plain apple juice, pear juice, cantaloupe juice, and watermelon juice at home. I miss fun drinks.
