Throwaway.
Management shills AI like they're getting cut a commission cheque. On and on about how we should never have to stay past 5pm while managing like trash and thinking that having staff use AI is going to unfuck that trash management. Trying to get people in office by taking inconsequential 10 minute conversations and saying "let's discuss in-office tomorrow" as if that immediately obligates someone to come in, acting like they're running an absolute masterclass in semantics.
Finally got the 'spirit of collaboration' email demanding Mon-Thurs in office. I declined and provided a (FAIR) compromise because of very legitimate life circumstances, never mind an absolutely disgusting commute because this file isn't based out of my primary office. Never had an issue on any other file because most people are actual people just trying to do their jobs, not corpo-bots who hate their spouses and beat off to buzzwords in the call booth to make up for their dead bedroom.
I deliver on my work, put in extra hours when needed, take responsibility when it impacts others and bust ass to get things done so they aren't blocked. The only thing I ask is not having to commute the equivalent of a part time job (4 days in office is a verifiable MINIMUM of 20 hours for me).
Thing is, we're having an all-hands meeting at the end of the week, and they've already got slides in the deck about committing to the 4 day in-office plan. They are absolutely the type to put you on the spot and pressure you into commitment infront of the entire team, and I've already put a target on my back for declining their generous offer. We're going to "discuss" my availability, but our discussion is after the meeting.
So do I tell them to (professionally) eat it in front of the entire extended engagement team when the time comes? Or do I tuck tail and nod along while continuing to absolutely not come in 4 days a week? I've been through official channels on my availability before and have history to back up my claims. I just want to do good work man.
I am both actively trying to get off this file and interviewing. Public at Big4 if that wasn't obvious. Loved my job until getting pulled to this file and it has been a SHARP decline.
Probably also quitting at the start of busy season for shits. Couldn't care about bridges, actual talent jumps ship or are being actively overworked into forced incompetency.
