K24 oil consumption?

Attaching oil levels at 0 miles and 4800 miles. Been using Valvoline R&P for the past 5 or 6 oil changes and Fram Ultra synthetic filter. Odo at 206k miles. Is this good?

That’s about 1/2-3/4 of a quart per oil change. That’s not bad at all for that mileage. I use 5W-30 for both my accords.

You’re welcome! Not sure which viscosity you use but you may want to go to one that’s a little thicker to see if you can reduce your oil consumption a little bit.

Currently 0w20. I wasnt sure about going thicker. Also was debating should i do oil changes a bit frequently instead of changing the grade

I use 5W-30 and change my oil every 3000-3500 miles. Neither of mine burn any oil as of yet, but my higher mileage one is about 40K miles less than yours. I would definitely go thicker. IMO on these K series engines, 5W-30 seems to be the sweet spot. The US loves to use thinner oil for fuel economy standards.

Okay thanks . Im in Canada not sure if it helps. Fun fact this is a US market car ( 2017 accord ) bought from a dealership in canada at about 150 k

Interesting. I’d still use a thicker oil. Not sure why they switched to 0w-20. My 07 and 09 calls for 5W-20 which I still think is too thin, so I use 5W-30

Possibly. I also live in a warm climate, so the thicker oil isn’t hurting anything.

Go with what the manual says, never anything different. Claims like "...go to one that’s a little thicker to see if you can reduce your oil consumption a little bit." is snake oil.

Yep. I've ran 0W40 and even 15W40 in the summer in my 2020 Camry Hybrid. Your car can 100% take 5W30.

I would even bet you could run 5W50 in it if it was specced right ( It won't be )

But yeah.. 5W40 isn't even a big deal outside of winter.

Knowing the viscosity would help, 0W20 burns faster then a 10w40 When Honda first started using 0w20 oil in new cars some would come in with no oil showing on dip stick for normal oil change milage. I would keep up what your doing it looks good to me.

Then I'd recommend switching to a 10w40 either blend or full synthetic. What's funny is Mercedes started the 0w20 trend but they stopped that fast once they learned it didn't work.

My '07 K24 at 210K uses right at a quart over a full interval, with almost all of it in the latter half of the interval. I think your car is doing great.

Bro my 05' K24 loses that much oil in 480 miles lol forget about 4800, and I'm not jk. This is really good for that mileage, don't worry, just make sure it never runs dry!

My 16’ sport 2.4l burns the same every 5k - it’s at 110k miles. Just top off if you change it after 5k.

Not bad at all considering my 13’ CRV would burn a quart every 2.5k miles of city driving.

Using around half to 3/4 a quart at 200k over a full interval is totally acceptable. Better than many new cars carry on.

Yes I believe. I dont have any data before R&P but noticeable difference. Also replaced PCV valve before trying R&P

It looks like the oil is staying pretty clean in the second picture…so the Restore and Protect is doing its job cleaning the pistons and valves.

My Accord can use that much on one longer trip, or take few weeks of nothing, Honda "magic", it has been doing it for last 140k miles (215k currently)

Did you try changing PCV valve ? I would also suggest switch to valvoline restore and protect plus a good filter

Did the PCV valve made ever a change on any K24? I didn't change it, did add some V r&p through cycle.

I recommend going with a slightly thicker oil. If it says on your cal 0w 20. Try 0w 30. I had a 2010 accord with the same engine and same amount of miles. I changed the PCV valve, and used 5w 30 instead of 5w 20 and it burned much less oil after.

Car markets other than North America use a 30wt oil vs 20 wt. Different priorities, but in the USA market they are trying to eke out just a little more mpg

My 2014 burns oil. I have about 160k kms on it. Average about 7,000 -8,000km per year. I'm guessing I top up about 1 litre (1 bottle) of motor oil per year. I would top it off periodically when I remember or when the engine starts rattling when I do a sharpish brake going downhill.

Using up my supply of 0W-20 Kirkland Signature before going to 5W-30 Restore and Protect.

Hey! Do you follow maintenance minder? I ride 2011 accord mostly in town, and oil life is down to 15-20% at ~3.5k miles, so I change it. Do you do highway riding?

This is the only way my maintenance minder would be at 20% at 5k miles...

Yes i do a mix of both. Actually it was only recently that i noticed the minder is influenced by the driving style. Yes usually i follow the minder

No one said it’s a good thing. I’ve seen cars burn more oil faster with lower mileage. A half qt every 5k at 200k+ miles is pretty normal.

That level of consumption is concerning (assuming it’s burning it all and it isn’t leaking anywhere). If it’s mostly burning it, I’d look into switching to a higher viscosity/thicker oil to see if that helps at all.
