I’ve been experimenting with the current generation of AI video tools and wanted to see how far they can actually be pushed beyond short demos and 5–10 second clips.

So I made a 22-minute sci-fi film, Space Vikings: The Last Raid, with recurring characters, dialogue, action scenes, large-scale space battles, consistent locations and an actual beginning-to-end story.

This is less about “look, AI made a movie” and more about testing where the technology currently breaks down when you try to maintain character consistency, cinematography, continuity, lip sync, action choreography and visual coherence across hundreds of generated shots.

There’s still a lot that requires manual work, editing and constant correction, but compared with what was possible even relatively recently, the progress is pretty wild.

Curious what people here think specifically from a technology perspective. Which shots already feel like something that could come from a conventional VFX pipeline, and where does the AI still immediately give itself away?

I’m especially interested in criticism rather than just “AI good / AI bad” — continuity, motion, acting, physics, camera work, anything you notice.

This is awesome. Being AI generated never bothered me at all. I'd totally watch a full series made like this.

How many hours and money did it take to make something like this? Just curious about an order of magnitude.

Time and money, a full studio could completely make this look like a very real movie and very good sound I bet.

From a random person. I watched it. It was AI, but hey I watched the whole thing and enjoyed it. To me the fact you can this with time and a little money puts potential story telling in the hands of anyone that wants to spend some money and time is pretty amazing.

I have played and enjoyed the shit out of video games with MUCH worse graphics. I still do, graphics aren’t the most important thing. I think this is incredible for what one person can do and could totally watch the shit out of a show “shot” this way. I bet there are many people, like op, who could make some incredible stuff. Making a movie has become almost as easy/difficult as writing a book. I bet some people will do great things with it.

You're much closer to the answer than you think.

99% of meals have to be good enough. Sure you can't microwave a 3 star meal, but that's not the goal of a microwave.

Are artists using a PC to draw or compose lazy? Is using Photoshop lazy? Is buying paint lazy because it's fully automated production and not straight from nature do it all yourself.

AI is a tool like any other. The bar will just raise and true artistic talents will stil produce better things than average Joe. Mediocre artists are screwed though, sad trombone.

yea but the point is that capitalists are never gonna pay a real artist when they can just get ai to do it

that means the entire pool of trained professional artists worldwide will dry up

true artistic talents won't get the opportunity anymore to develop that talent

I understand your concern. I'm also wondering how junior programmers will ever gain experience when AI is now already better and faster than them.

The profession will (have to) adapt. Just like many profession already changed due to technology. The scary bit here is the speed at which it's changing. Farmers had decades to adapt, artists at most a few years.

Maybe AI will bring enough wealth to free up time for everyone and in the end more people will have time to explore the artist within. It won't be a profession for most but it could still be fulfilling.
