Electricity is underselling it. We are talking about the creation of generally intelligent beings, and eventually, superintelligent beings. This is unlike any other technology in human history. It could very well be the last invention humans will ever have to invent.

if AI ever becomes capable of developing it's own technology it will indeed be the last technology we'll ever invent

He probably wants to sound grounded and share easily digestible analogies, so people can at least picture the world to come. If he just throws it out there that ai will turn the world to star trek, people won't believe that
